Who's the best
Metaru
The OGs
>>12850613different category altogether though, brotherly rival rather than dark mirror/evil match
Bass wasn't an edgelord until the Battle Network series when he became some kid's OC donut steel.
>>12850652He was much more in line with the others in OP before because he was essentially just the dark version of the hero who's goal is killing the hero to show his superiority, where I don't think he had any connection to Mega Man in battle network, he was basically Sigma there and hated humans
>>12850603Sonic characters are all lame and winglike head ornaments are stupid, so Vile wins by default.
>>12850652I have seen worse visual designs for characters than this one, but at the moment it is difficult for me to think of any.
>>12851567It's not wings it's a pharaohs hat
I liek metal sanic
bass is extremely fucking lame. metal sonic is the greatest of all time. vile and shadow are whatever.
>>12852527Why is Bass lame?
>>128551601. His retarded bunny ears2. His simp devotion to Wily 3. His color scheme 4. His Treble fusion which looks even worse than his default apperance
>>12855225I don't understand 2 and 3 howbeit. As I recall Bass hates Willy he just wants to beat Megan Man. And black/yellow is a good edgy color combo
>>12850603Shadows design is so clear that looking at it makes you think that you could design it, but you couldn't. Metal Sonic is badass but Shadow is genuinely groundbreaking Both Bass and Vile pale in comparison to Zero and Protoman
>>12850603Vile, because that first battle where he kicks your ass made the final battle between the two of you so much more meaningful. Saving Zero instead of being saved by Zero was a huge rush of feel good. It's like shit dude, I've surpassed this seemingly unstoppable badass. None of the future x games managed to recapture that feeling
>>12850603Three of them are literally Vegeta, and the other one is Metal Sonic
>>12850603>Who's the bestI dont know, maybe if they create a battle to the death of them all style battle royale and the one who survives, that one is going to be the best. In fact, it would be interesting a animation of that battle royale.
>>12855727Death? I think Vile would explode them all
>>12850603Vile/Shadow fucks while Bass and Metal Sonic watches.
>>12850603Wario
>>12857573I'm pretty sure he can't fight
>>12850603Vile and Metal Sonic are actually cool. Those other two are cringe.
>>12850603Vile's the odd one out being an unimportant clown that even Axl dabs on in bants. X and Zero just kinda forgot he existed for a while and when he shows back up after so long, they don't really react to him.
>>12850603For me its Vile mk2. Totally blew my mind seeing vile again in a secret area plus the music was cool.
Bass is literally Vegeta except he never becomes actually good. Which makes him more based than Vegeta who becomes essentially a hit piece against non soi men to prop up quirkboi soiku and soihan
>>12861162It's good but would be better in purple
Vile doesn't fit in with the rest of those
>>12850603>Can throw Napalm bombs out from his knees.Vile is the best of the bunch.
>>12850603Bass looks like an X character
>>128506031. Vile due to Mega Man X and slightly because of Maverick Hunter X2. Bass due Mega Man 7, 8, and Power Fighters3. Shadow due to Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog4. Metal Sonic due to Sonic CD
>>12850603I hate how having a personality has come to be seen as a bad thing. Even if it’s “cringey” and “edgy, but not really edgy,” because it’s a game made for kids. Vile, bounty-hunting, and violent methods make more sense than a “heartwarming” cop who does the same thing. At least the villain is upfront about being a piece of shit. Bass’s relentless search for stronger enemies also makes more sense than the mindless robot-killing committed by Rockman. Shadow and Metal Sonic are outliers because they tried to give Sonic some characterization, and the games lend themselves to that kind of heroic stuff better than Mega Man. Shadow is interesting for the early 2000s hype, and Metal Sonic, at least in the games, is fun.
>>12865598I don't think anyone considered edgy cringe until zoomers who only like "ironic" edginess. I'm the 80s to 00s, edgy was literally never used in a negative light as a word, and these characters were all popular lol. Nearly every series had some form of edgy anti hero or dark version of the hero character because it helped sell things as a cool factor, they didn't put these characters in things because it was considered cringey at the time
>>12866079The narrative around Shadow is misunderstood. He was never hated back in the day because "edgy is cringe", I think most people probably liked his design, the entire "controversy" was simply about his game not being very good and starting the era of low effort Sonic games as Sega became a third party dev, and the ridiculousness of him driving motorcycles swearing and using guns that seemed to go to almost parody levels...not because those things were uncool, but because they didn't fit in with Sonic. Just like Sonic 06 having Final Fantasy looking shit, it was the contrast of a colorful mascot game being mixed with super melodramatic "realistic" shit
>>12866079I don't know if all zoomers are like that it probably has more to do with the LGBT people in nerd spaces of which there are more of now because they just don't like strong moral dichotomy. they see a character who's a bad guy or rough around the edges and immediately want them to be actually good or relatable to their own soft mentality, there can be no bullies or hard asses or psychopaths everyone needs a soft side or to be misunderstoodI mean these are people who watch g1 transformers and come out of it thinking starscream is a misunderstood femboy who is in an abusive relationship with megatron, when anyone else just saw it for what it is, a power hungry backstabber guy
>>12850603Metal is the scariest
>>12866086The problem with “edgy” stuff is that it was usually poorly written. The backlash came from poorly written material. Like all that ’90s image output that was a misunderstanding of “dark” and “edgy” old comic book stories. Like the Heavy Metal stuff. But my point is that the “good” option isn’t well-written either. My issue arises when the heroes defend the status quo without a second thought, and everything else is portrayed as “evil. ” Like, there are no deeper questions about why the Repiloids are the way they are; it’s all just “muh virus” when they’re actually robots. The story has X destroy his own kind, and we’re left with no understanding of why he loves humans so much. “Heart” isn’t an answer, it’s just a lazy plot device. There’s also the problem that he’s a nonentity. The Zero series handled these themes better than the X series.
>>12850603>the vegetas>>12850613The tenshinhans
>>12850603Shado the hog
Anyone that says "the Boba Fett rip off is the best!" has no standards whatsoever
>>12869964He's as much a Boba rip off as Mega Man is an Astro Boy rip off, it's just a design aspect. He's not actually similar to Boba Fett at all, they're actually like two whole different flavors of "edgy cool guy">mysterious no speaking mercenary guy who just wants money >scorned ex teammate violent guy obsessed with revenge on the heroes
>>12867224I mean there's plenty of renowned edgy shit in comics, a lot of the "best" or acclaimed stuff is on the darker/edgier side, you can look at things like Wolverines initial solo book, Millers Daredevil and TDKR, Watchmen, the original Punisher Max or MK Punisher, The Killing Joke, Weapon X, The Crow, Sandman , New Teen Titans, Joe Kelly Deadpool, Grendel, go down the list. The whole Image problem of any was that they were heavily style over substance, not that they were dark, it was just hyper fixating on cool x-treem factor that kids would like and not much else.I would say with Nega Man X, it kinda fits into the early 90s anime thing, dark scifi and melodrama and if it doesn't make sense who cares, but hey it's a video game with like, a few cutscenes, not a story. Mega Man narratively has always just been a Saturday morning cartoon good vs evil thing at it's core, trying to shove in nuances about AI autonomy and free will was always a little haphazard and not really built for a medium based on "run and kill all your enemy bosses"
>>12867228I still can't believe Vegeta is literally named after vegetables. And Piccolo is a fucking flute
>>12855160Bass criticizes zero in his ending in megaman the power fighter 2, yet zero could easily defeat him.
>>12871843Yes that's because Bass is Vegeta and Zero is Trunks
>>12867228Proto Man is the Bardock, without him there would be no hope for man.
>>12871843Wrong: at the end, vegeta ended being more powerful than trunks.
>>12873381Garlic Junior
>>12850603If we consider only original games they are introduced in, then Shadow, no contest whatsoever. Metal, Bass and Vile are all side notes compared to full-fledged character with a full arc that has well-defined start and end.As sonicfag I'm probably biased, but I think Metal Sonic is taking second place. He has old Terminator vibe going for him, force of nature rather than a proper character. Giving him actual personality ruined him. He should have stayed the way he was in Sonic CD, even if that doesn't make much narrative sense to treat same robot that gets destroyed again and again as some extreme danger.Between Vile and Bass, former wins in terms of visual design, but maybe I just prefer X-series designs more to classics. I didn't like his personality in MHX.Bass is last place, but I kinda have troubles remembering much about him besides his cool fusion with Treble. I also didn't play BN series and other stuff like that, so I probably miss on something.Anyway, I think the tl;dr of all shit I wrote is that they all work best in first games they appear in, and trying to ride the wave of popularity and making them returning characters ruined all four, some sooner, some later.
>>12874896Bass is probably the least defined since he came late in the series, and the newer classic mm games are basically like nes tributes rather than anything impactful in moving narrative forward. but he's also probably the most straightforward "that guy, the dark rival who wants to prove he's stronger" and that's entirely it
