>playing HL1 with texture filtering
HL1's engine renders 3D in software (just like Quake) which does not filter textures due to how taxing it is. OpenGL rendering was added after the fact for both HL1 and Quake, and in both cases portrays aspects of the game incorrectly.

Ex: For the longest time, OpenGL HL1 did not have gl_overbright set, which meant that for well over a decade most people played HL1 with bright washed-out graphics instead of moody and striking colors/lighting.
Ex 2: Water in both Quake and HL1 in software is rendered differently then with OpenGL. Quake used a math formula to manipulate the texture of the water while HL1 used animated textures to simulate the liquid never sitting still; with OpenGL both were forced to dumb these effects down to simply moving the polygons that make up the water surface.

Valve literally recommended players to use a 3d accelerator card. OpenGL support was included with the game at launch. Software mode exists for people with shit configs. The ps2 and dreamcast ports had texture filtering on. Most textures look obviously wrong unfiltered.

post them

I cant be arsed to extract them from the game files and make comparison pictures, you win the argument

For me it's PS2 half-life.

The view sway in PS2 Half-Life is so nauseating to me the game is unplayable. I don't know who the fuck decided to put it back in the PC anniversary version but at least you can disabled it in that one.

>b-but the developers meant for you to play it this way!
>but in 199x everyone could only play it that way!
who gives a fuck, stop larping. play with the best options technology has for you today and actually play the fucking game, fags.

>tfw still cant play crysis on max

What the hell is even that? I just play games, why would I click on a YouTube video?

Overbrights work for 3d accelerators with single texturing, like Voodoo1 and Banshee
>>
You could have just actually played the game. You DO play games right?

i played the Crysis 1 demo on maxed settings on an old i7 with integrated GPU, and it crawled at 17FPS on max settings, with lots of input lag.

>17fps

back in my day that would be classified as smooth

I've never actually had any discomfort from first person effects such as view bobbing or motion blurs or distortions or low FOV or what have you.
