That would be the N64

>more affordable console
>more reliable hardware
>zero load times
>no memory cards needed
>legendary multiplayer thanks to four controller ports
>hardware and controller built from the ground up for true 3D gaming, not 2.5D interactive movies
>peak Kinotendo and Rare exclusives like Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, GoldenEye, Star Fox 64, Mario Party 1-3, F-Zero X, Smash Bros, plus a bunch more
>>

>N64
What a strange way of spelling SNES
>>
Crazy how 4 distintic companies did their best and delivered peak gaming experience for all tastes and needs:
Sega and Microsoft: Genesis, DC and Xbox
Nintendo: SNES, N64, GC.
Sony: PSX, PS2.

Today, everythins is homogenous and boring... and AI is going to make everything much worse than it already is.
Thank god we did grew up during the peak days of the industry.
>>
>>12853616
Literal 10/10s were coming out every month back then, too. It's insane how far the industry has fallen.
>>
>>12853578
Also those games suck to play now. They were fun back then, they are total shit now and you're a faggot just like twinky boy link
>>
>>12853616
>Sega and Microsoft: Genesis, DC and Xbox
Should be Sega and Hudson, Saturn and PC Engine
>Nintendo: SNES, N64, GC.
No. NES and handhelds are where they shine.
>Sony: PSX, PS2.
uh... ok i guess. but not for the reasons you think
>>
PS1 was great. PS2 was a step down.
>>12853578
Least affordable games. Stop propagandizing your nogames machine every time you see a PS1. You're mentally ill. Not even a top 5 Nintendo console. N64 fags are a stain on society, and 80% of them have trooned out.

Wrong, doom was made by a few lads, So was halo. You dont need corporate control of anything involving art, cooperation at the most.

>AI bad!
Ai might ironically be a surprise how much creativity will comeout it with new polished mods and homebrews.

>ID and Bungie were just some heckin indie devs
I know it seems like that compared to today, but that's just what the industry was like before the mid-2000s nearly across the entire board.
Just because it was smaller back then doesn't mean that they weren't a part of an industry at large. Hell, the instruction booklet for Bungie's (original) Marathon explicitly stated that if they didn't make any money, they wouldn't be making more games. It's always been a for-profit thing going as far back as the Magnavox Odyssey.

>SNES
What a strange way of spelling Famicom.
>>
>>12854898
Famicom didn't really get good until after the NES was already out in the west, save for the Namco library during 1984-1985.

And SNES didn't get good until Sony re-released it with a CDROM drive. What's your point?
>>
>>12854907
It's weird to single out the Famicom specifically when it was kind of a mediocre pile of shit before MMC chips actually made the games worth playing.

>>

It's funny how Playstation fanboys have to both pretend SNES was bad, but also the Playstation was just like it.
>>
>>12854913
>PlayStation is where it ended up.
Start of the downfall of gaming, sad indeed.
>>
>>12854913
I'd argue that it started with the ColecoVision over the Famicom. The Famicom was designed to compete primarily with that hardware (and to play a "competent" version of Donkey Kong that happened to be missing 1/4th of the game)

>Nintendo: SNES, N64, GC.
People like to shit on GC as being missable but it had all the N64 games worth playing and some SNES. 007, Megaman X collection, Kart, Party, Sunshine, OoTMQ, Four Swords, F-Zero, Smash. All you needed was a PS1 for Final Fantasy.
>>
>>12854946
PS1 had more than 10 times the games as the N64 (4000+ to ~400). To say that the PS1 is only good for Final Fantasy is a fucking joke, they're not even the best RPGs available on the console.
>>
>>12854950
And that just left Famicom as being necessary because it wasn't fashionable for anyone but Namco to port 8-bit games
>>
>>12854950
Tendies like to say PS1 has no games worth playing to cope for their nogames machines. Truly scummy people.
>>
>>12854959
True. The real nogames is SNES if we're counting ports.
>>
>>12853578
N64 was skippable, just get a $99 gamecube from walmart and some cheap used minidiscs. SNES was also skippable but we're not ready to have that discussion.

I always found the NES boring, but the Famicom always seemed cool and exotic. same with the genesis and mega drive.
The marketing may have been successful for 80s/90s audiences, but today it just isn't as appealing.

Except for Pilotwings, the rest of those games sold 8 copies before everyone eventually got them from freeroms and emuparadise and played on zsnes while everyome else was living their lives and playing PlayStation, you had to be there.
>>
>>12854986
It's called having a library with depth, you wouldn't get it.
>>
>>12854989
If a game gets released in the woods, did people play it? There's more to vidya than seeing a screenshot of the title screen.
>>

Do those look like title screens to you? Also "if the cattle didn't play it, it doesn't exist" is quite the take.

I'm saying SNES is played on an emulator while a gazillion PS1 games pressed daily. Thanks for supporting my point.

Emulation is how most games are discovered.

The N64 has maybe 10 games people actually give a shit about. You could easily find at least 100 games on the original Playstation worth checking out. Even the Saturn has a vastly superior library to the N64

N64 doesn't have a racing game as good as Sega Rally or Ridge racer r4, frankly it has the worst racing library of the 3.
>>
>>12855254
The Rush series were some fun arcade racers. F-1 World Grand Prix wasn't bad either. Otherwise, the racing library wasn't super great.

It really comes more down to the library. When you look at a fun library you do indeed get some N64 games, however the majority of them are on PSX, and if you're curious you can get a few more off the Saturn.

N64 is a skip. From my experience living through the time if I only had one console to pick it would not be in N64. It would be game boy and PSX.

They had many more games to float anybody's boat and it was easier to get used copies.

Imagine growing up with an Odyssey as your formative experience with “video games.” I’d have given up completely well before the Atari VCS rolled out.

>expensive cartridges that never went on sale
>more affordable console
Also, you still had loading on N64 due to having to decompress assets on a 90Mhz CPU, and several N64 games required the Memory Pak to save.
>>
>>12857562
>several N64 games required the Memory Pak to save
Most N64 games require one to save, and they're so comically small that a lot of games eat up either most of one or the entire thing. And of course they went the cheapest route possible and put a battery in them, meaning all your saves are gone when it runs out (which it has on all of them by now). Meanwhile, you can insert a PS1 memory card and all your saves from 30 years ago will still be right where you left them since they use an EEPROM instead. Nintendo didn't even think of the WILD idea of giving you a way to manage saves at a system level, meaning absolutely every single game that uses a Memory Pak had to have a custom menu for managing saves built into it by the developer, whereas both PS1 and Saturn had save management at a system level.

The N64 really was a poorly-designed pile of shit in every respect. Pretty much every single decision Nintendo made was bad.

>>
>>12853578
N64 was fucking gay, easily Nintendo's worst retro home console. The five truly great games for the console don't make up for the library being a tiny pool mostly full of shit. Snoy was the way to go that gen
>>
>>12857719
>Snoy was the way to go that gen
only if you had a beatmania or popn music controller which was rare outside of japan
>>
>>12853578
>no memory cards needed
you never had a n64, if you didnt have a savepak then you couldnt save your progress in 90% of games since few devs wanted to shell out for battery backed save storage
