Change my mind.

I'd agree with AI decomps if they were useable in any way.
AI fanatics defend things for being done quicker but never go into detail about the actual content the decomp has, and if it can even serve its purpose, the biggest one is ease of modding.
Notice nobody makes hacks with those AI decomps except maybe tiny tech demos? Because they literally can't do anything else.
Their existence is to get on Video Game Esoterica and get dopamine kicks from him and comments saying its great. After that, it's abandoned and the problems are never fixed, because its served its purpose.
>>
>>12854597
I forgot to mention Esoterica is the mod of the decomp reddit and allows any "project" to be posted.
He's assumed himself as the figurehead of decomps because of his shitty Youtube channel and everyone making a decomp worth a damn, even AI assisted ones despise him.

just fucking emulate
>NOOOOO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, I NEED 500 DIFFERENT EXEs TO RUN EACH INDIVIDUAL GAME ON MY DESKTOP, AIEEEEEEEE SAVE ME CLAUDE-SAMA
>>
>>12854653
People don't want to do that because the game becomes 60FPS.
However the game itself wasn't designed to run at that speed and introduce new bugs and design issues that never end up getting fixed.
>>
>>12854664
Maybe with slop but it's been proven countless times over the years you can make a 30 FPS game 60 FPS if you're actually competent in your hacking skill. Which AIfags usually aren't*

*The only exception are those who have genuine expert programming skills even before using LLMs but those people are insanely rare
>>

Even someone competent to know how to use AI as a tool can pull it off. The problem is AI in most people's hands tell AI to do everything and ship it without playing through it fully themselves.
There's no passion to make anything good or usable for others. It's about getting their recognition as soon as possible from people who don't know better and throwing it away when their ten minutes of fame ends or learning you can't vibe code your way out of a problem.
If you're doing something for clout chasing, you're doing it for the wrong reasons, and it's a 99% chance it'll be shit. That's irreverent of AI use or not, AI just makes things easier for clout chasers who were going to make garbage either way.

>ship it without playing through it fully themselves
I think this is the part most people have a problem with and it's what all the supporters seem to be overlooking for some reason.

Their excuse is that it's alpha or beta. There will be glitches but you should at least play the game and make sure you can beat it before releasing.
They can't even be bothered to do that for their "favorite games". It doesn't matter anyway because most of the time they never get past alpha or beta. Just sit dead on github clogging up the search results for people who actually give a damn.

Disassembly has allowed some great things to happen. For example, flicker-fixed Elite for C64. Many many ports of classic games which then receive work over time. Fixing bugs in game logic, etc.

>>12854664
>muh fps
Zoomie detected. Nobody cares about FPS on retro games. Lots of old games crrawwwll with single digit FPS and millions of people loved them.
>>
>>12854837
>Zoomie detected.
I never said I cared, I said that's why people want these over emulators in the first place. I completely agree with you.
>>
>>12854565
Both IDA and Ghidra use massive amounts of heuristics, which is basically just a shitty form of AI.
>>
>>12854756
Most people are coping hard about it.

The truth is that before being lazy was encouraged you were supposed to actually playtest and polish your projects before release. Even if it did have some issues the general idea was that at least you gave enough of a shit to fix it as soon as possible.
>>
>>12854842
My mistake. I just think it's appropriate to shit on this need for 60+FPS that people decided they must insist upon.

>>12854859
Anything is AI I guess. AIBO's AI. Teddy Ruxpin too. If you squint.
>>
>>12854859
Its probbaly better to say that ai is just over hyped heuristics.
>>
>>12854859
That's why planted bugs are key to making sure everything that gets rebuilt doesn't fuck up. So far Opus 5.5 has done a decent job of reverse engineering Digital Eclipse's own "Moo" emulator for Atari 50.
>>
>>12854747
You can tell someone is wasting your time if they're pushing a discord server. Someone who cares about making a fun, interesting game will produce a finished product and share it in a way that is actually accessible to people who want to play it.
>>
>>12854870
It's the first weeks of this tech for most people so expect spastic excitement that will calm down very quickly. If people are making mods that run on pc rather than "original hardware emulation" then we'll eventually end up with a central application that collects them and standardizes some formatting questions.

If someone is trying to work within constraints of the original hardware then they can produce a .rom that will run on existing emulators.
>>
>>12854565
But a blue checkmark on Twitter said that people who care at all about code quality are luddites.
Help me, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO THINK NOW!
>>
>>12854565
>Same Efficacy as manual decomp
>b-b-but I need to know somebody suffered making something before I use it!
>>
>>12856840
>>Same Efficacy as manual decomp
When has this ever happened? Show me one example.
>>
>>12856840
If I even suspect something is vibeslopped I won't use it.
