This looks super uncomfortable to play. Did they change the layout on later cabinets?
>>
That layout was made before fighting games became the dominant genre for Neo Geo gaming. Most of the games didn't use the D button.

These are ultra-mini 4-foot cabs that expected you to sit on a small stool to play. SC19's. The original Neo-Geo control layouts were all four buttons in an row, with the far left button being a bit lower for your thumb, including the mini-cabs. These came years later, and fighting game players dislike the layouts on them.

They were made for little kids but even so......even Capcom's Cute Cab's at least you could look em at different angle.

The flyers for the SC19 show Fatal Fury 1 (which doesn't use the D button), so this cab was released quite early in Neo Geo history.

That's every Japanese cab
>>

In the early 90s, that wasn't true.

I guess now we know why

Yes it was. Candy cabs had been a thing since the mid-80s with stuff like Sega Aero City and Jaleco Pony.

That is true but they were not *every* cab. Early 90s Japanese arcades had plenty of stand-up cabinets.

The original cab came out in 1989, the SC19 came out in 1992. Why the fuck did you even bother to respond with blind speculation you mouth-breather?
>HUR DUR, IT MUST HAVE COME OUT EARLY?!

Nope.

Sega and other arcade manufacturer sold official risers for their Candy cabs (pic related). It was a regular thing to turn them into standing arcade cabinets in Japan. Many Japanese arcades (especially the smaller and independently owned arcades) didn't have room for players to sit down. So owners wanted to maximize space and get as many machines as possible into a limited space.

Yet westerns fans have gotten the weird idea about Candy cabs and think they are all sit down cabs. It's completely wrong. You would see both during the Golden era or arcades in Japan.

1992 is still early, you utter moron.
