Why did Atari put the screw underneath the cartridge label? Was this company run by assholes?
To hide it and discourage users from taking it apart.
>>12855384>Was this company run by assholes?Every adult male in the 1970s was some level of asshole.
>>12855384Is there no other way to open them?
>>12855384>Was this company run by assholes?Still are. They actively scam their fanbase every couple of years. No idea how they haven't been sued to the ground after the building bullshit, crypto bullshit, console bullshit, and vast array of dropshipped merch bullshit.
>>12855384Don't look into how you have to open original famicom cartridges which instead of destroying the label you risk destroying the plastic casing
>>12855397oh he seethin
>>12855402yowch
>>12855409you know i actually respect the american NES, great design all things considered despite the 72-pin connector pins bending
>>12855409shits retardedI wanted to collect famicom games until I saw a video with the grips and the dude broke the plastic tabs of the game.>dude let me spend 40 dollars+ on some rare games and then make it worthless if I ever need to open it up
>>12855409there are ways to open plastic tabs.this is not one of them.
>>12855409You are supposed to use one of these.
>>12855394
>>12855397Yeah but it's not the same Atari. In fact it's just the name and trademark. Aren't they owned by Infogrammes or Ubisoft or one of those Frenchie wankers?
>>12855656Not owned, it is Infogrames. They bought the rights to the Atari name and logo and rebranded.
>>12855656>>12855874Yes, but no. Wade Rosen pulled an internal hostile takeover, and kicked out most of the old Infogrames frogs from the company.
>>12855384Is there any maintenance reason to open an atari cartbridge? Atari is a awful company, sure, but you open other console cartbridges usually to change the battery
>>12855384>Why did Atari put the screw underneath the cartridge label? Was this company run by assholes?Atari realized that people could remove the PCB from the cartridge and just return the empty shell back to the retailer that they bought the game from for a refund.
>>12856314Atari 2600 cartridges have to be one of the most invincible pieces of physical media ever created. Those things are have lasted nearly 50 years now without issues and will probably still be working in the 22nd century
>>12855389>Every adult male in the 1970s was some level of asshole. It was a better time for huMANity.
There was no reason to ever open them, none had batteries.
>>12855384Why would you take apart an Atari cart? They don't have batteries to replace or anything.
>>12855384that's how they did it on 8 tracks
>>12855397>No idea how they haven't been sued to the groundInfogrames broke atari up into a bunch of different entities and is merely a label for a tax shelter and the ip. sue one version of atari, it folds and reemerges elsewhere under a different name in another tax friendly place.
>>12855384Console games were meant to be bought and thrown away after 3-4 years, and new games bought in their place. The screw served its purpose and the carts long outlived their expected service life by four decades. Technically you are the weird one for being bothered by this. The idea of fixing or restoring consumer electronics is kind of alien. A TV was a major household purchase akin to a major appliance and was serviceable, but small consumer electronics were disposable. They still are for the most part. Would you open up and try to repair a damaged old 16mb USB thumb-drive from 2002? Or would you just throw it away and buy a bigger faster one? Games were meant to be like that.
>>12857342so you can fix water damage 4 decades later T_Tit would cost them NOTHING
>>12857652>Would you open up and try to repair a damaged old 16mb USB thumb-drive from 2002?the creators of custer's revenge wouldn't have made that analogy
>>12857652>Would you open up and try to repair a damaged old 16mb USB thumb-drive from 2002? Yes, of course i would.
