Which third gen system do you like the most graphically/aesthetically?
>>12855418soul, soulsoul, soulsoul
>>12855418The master system color palette mogs everything else from the 3rd Gen easily, making it my favorite hands down (aesthetically speaking).
>>12855418MSX(not 2), it has a rather pleasing palette
>>12855418i mostly played the Micro Genius back in the days.never saw a SMS, or C64 or Amstrad or le britty speccy.
>>12855418You can see why the nes won
>>12855456>Lists the GameBoy, but not the GameGear? The GameGear is like a Master System with an extended colour palette.

>>12855418You can't really classify microcomputers in generations as neatly as you can consoles. The division is usually done along the lines of "bitness" (which is another can of worms entirely).Anyway, if we use 1985 (SMS release year) as the cutoff year, it's hard not to go with the Amiga 1000. For 8-bit computers I really like the Atari 800 & MSX2 palettes.
>>12855638>>12855418More images like this I love them.
>>12855418I like the NES but the c64 is cool. Except in this case because the character is brown
This is kind of an unfair comparison from the start considering things like NES colours would come differently depending on your TV and where you live in the world, and SMS colours were made very vibrant precisely to counter that fact and how much darker those colours would appear on an NTSC CRT

>>12855715>NES colours would come differently depending on your TV and where you live in the worldYeah it was the same with the C64, on an NTSC TV the colors looked very different, the blue is much more blue for example while it's more purple-ish on PAL TVs, and add to that differences between TVs and individual color settings. It's like how the sky in SMB for the NES has a different color depending on who you ask.
>>12855418All look awful. Double Dragon has horrendous art style.>>12855638>>12855743Now we're fucking talking. CPC reigns supreme among all 8-bit systems.
NES wins, but as you can see Amstrad is kinda impressive, never tried it myself.
>>12855969It's a weird machine, they look great in screenshots but the library is mostly Spectrum ports that don't really take advantage of the hardware.
>>12855456I think it's interesting how well the NES tends to hold up visually, despite how terrible the palette is. Pic related, on the left. Right is SMS palette.
>>12856301Your wheel doesn't look accurate; but the lack of darker tones on SMS isn't talked about enough, there are games where you can tell they struggle with that. That's why the SMS is at its best with bright colourful worlds, like Wonder Boy or the Mickey and Donald games; but struggles a lot more in games like Batman Returns, Master of Darkness, Danan or even Lord of the Sword and Daffy Duck
>>12856317Left one is of course variable because the NES palette isn't really strictly defined, but the right one should be accurate. I just used a plugin to force a color wheel to only use the closest-matching colors in a defined palette, and I defined it as the SMS 6 bit RGB palette.
>>12855418Poor choice of OP image, all of them are crude demakes. At least pick something they did well.
>>12855456Amiga blew it out of the fucking water.
>>12857613so like diarrhea in the pool.
>>12855743It's weird, C64 has the weakest palette, but the most detail.
>>12857619Good one.
