Real retro editionBecause if its not a low res TV its apparently not retro even if both displays were manufactured at the same time
CRT Monitors are really cool and versitileCan do 800x600 for old VNsDOS modes offcourse640x480High res mode for watching older anime or using it as a standard modern displayCan hookup a PC easily to emulate, or an xbox 360 or both at once with multi inputsNot sure why exactly this upsets some people
>>12861806isn't this beat em up easy as hell with infintes and shit?
>>12861806wtf is that shit on your screen
>>12862178A rapeable slut
>>12862193this shit nigga. wtf is this shit
why is there no absolute, 100% correct method to setting contrast? why is there no "raise it until this shit appears/dissappears like brightness. fuck. every damn pattern and description of how to use the pattern to set contrast just doesnt fucking do shit
>>12861807I use a CRT monitor as my main monitor for literally everything but if I were making a CRT thread I wouldn't open a thread with a modern game on, I'd at least keep it retro. Here's Trails in the Sky and I think it looks really nice in 640x480p on a monitor. I'd plumb it through my mister to get 480i/240p composite out of it onto my trinitron but not today. This game is from 2004 btw so it's pretty heckin' retro wouldn't you say? >>12862203Sometimes you get new CRTs and they just have shit on them you can't get off. It could be an anti-glare coating that's gotten a bit too hot or something.>>12862209You've just got to find a setting that you're happy with across the games you want to play, before anything else. Also tubes get tired. They don't output as brightly as they did out of the factory depending on age and hours ran. Just put a grid on it and tune contrast and brightness until you're happy with it and it the setting doesn't introduce obvious bleeding or bowing, and if a game has a bright/contrast setting use that for the game instead of reconfiguring your TV. Also be mindful that pushing higher settings through your TV might wear components out faster. It might be better to accept lower overall brightness and just play it in as dark a room as possible.
i love my rear projection, it does have some weird geometry issue in the corners and the blue colour wont line up properly on the 2 bottom corners but it looks pretty good. why do people hate them so much>>12862209its personal preference and also depends on the content
>>12862178Sailor moon, dumbass.
>>12861806How does anyone play this shit without squirting their eyes?
>>12862713>squirting their eyesI'm sorry?
>>12862726Squirting. You know, like jizz.
>>12862731This freak cums out of his eyes.
The CRT market is cooked.
You do calibrate your crts right?>>12863056Is that a productive discussion?on my board?Deletedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Us3_8FxoAls
>>12863021WITH REMOTE! God you zoomers have no idea what a great deal is when it's right in front of you!
>>12862743worse. x-man. ever.
>>12863021this tv was in a dream I had
>>12863107not with no stupid fucking meter, no
>>12863021Scalpers ruin everything. Some boomer goes on facebook marketplace/ebay and sees "tube tvs" listed for $200 and does the same.Just look at how cheap CRT monitors are by comparison. Very similar hardware, but scalpers aren't interested so they are $30.
I wonder if this is retro enough?>Jannie thinks rangeban is going to workNot sure if you got raped by a PC CRT chad, but pipe down troon>>12863319>stupid fucking meterMeter makes it not only accurate but also easier and faster luddite
>>12861806Why not js use a good crt filter?
>>12863521I dont believe you. prove it. send me your meter
>>12863460don't put that on scalpers it's on the retard boomer that can't figure out the difference between asking price and sold and a desirable set vs a cumbersome piece of shit
>>12863534it never looks as good and it has latency
>>12863662Its scalpers fault for driving up the prices in the first placeI have been watching the market go to shit, got enough CRTs to last me forever though , altough more can never hurt
>>12861806No thanks, I started a family instead.
I like smaller monitors
>>12863813color calibrate it anon...Thats terrible
>>12864375That was before adjustments. The color temp was too warm.
>>12864660You should do full DAS calibration still
CRTs look like utter shitthis is mental illness
>>12863021you can buy one for like 5 or 10 dollars from a clueless grandma at a second-hand storeit's some millennial asshhole selling this shit for that price on ebay or facebook marketplace
if you go a 2nd hand store run by grannies in a rural area you can find a crt for less than 20 dollarsi am not sure you can get one that cheap at a 2nd hand store in a city because the millennials will buy them all and sell them for an exorbitant price
>>12865279if you go to a 2nd hand store*
women especially older women will see shit for way cheaper than what they are worththey will assume something is worthless because it's old and will sell it at a low price
>>12865290i think old women just dont have a fascination with old tech crap
>>12865163>"I want attention! Please give me attention!"Go be mentally ill somewhere else, please.
>>12863679Depends, royale fast looks breddy gud now and sonkun went on a autistic quest to make his presets accurate even at 60hz.But again, modern oled screens dies fast to sell more these days.
>>12865157Probably won't on this one but maybe if I get a nicer one.Pic rel- great deal on a broken pvm
>>12865625you know you shouldn't touch this shit
>>12865625idk if thats ironic, i wouldnt pay 100 for that lol
>>12865449>stahp ruining my echo chamber reeeeeeeenah, you're a faggot and CRTs are trash
>>12866394
>>12863021I guess this CRT is at least really vintage and hard to find
I found a 24 inch Sanyo on the side of the road yesterday. It won't power up. No sound or lights. Completely dead. Any ideas?
>>12866394I'm gonna use a crt to crush your skull.
>>12866512Honestly, it's probably not worth the headache to diagnose from experience. You should open it and see if anything is obvious, it could be as simple as a broken fuse or power button or disconnected component. Could be obvious repair work like cracked joints or a leaking cap, or it could look completely fine and drive you insane figuring out which single component has failed
>>12866512have sex with it
>>12863680Nice!
>>12867040I already did. Kind of interesting but mostly just painful.
I purchased a Superstation and hooked it up to the Samsung I bought last month and I've been working at getting it situated with all these arcade roms before moving onto console games.I've run into a couple of rotated games and have been fucking around in the MiSTer OSD to see if I could get them turned the 90-180 degrees I need to get it rightside but but all I've found that does anything is flipping the image.I booted some brick break game called Block Gal and the startup animations for it are test patterns and color bars. The color bars were up while I was going through the OSD and toggling shit and these two giant fucking color blooms burned into the color bars when I flipped the image and it scared the shit out of me.They're gone after power cycling the TV a couple of times but now I'm afraid to try these weird arcade games if they can fuck up my tube.
>>12861806I was going to start a new thread but then thought "eh, I'll just ask here"How do you guys store your consoles? I have a mini CRT on my desk and I have a couple consoles just laying on the ground underneath. I was thinking it might be nice if I got a shelf or something so it was a little more organized, but I'm not sure if something like that really exists.Pic semi-related, I've been playing RE2 a lot lately on my PSX. I've also got my Dreamcast and Gamecube hanging around
>>12862209Back in my day they used to broadcast test images for this purpose, maybe they still do in areas like yours where they still have analog broadcasts.
Were there ever any Trinitrons or Wegas that had a VGA port?
>>12867798i use one of those old TV stands with the glass front cabinets to keep the dust out for all my active consoles, the remainder go into a closed cabinet
>>12863021>Includes period correct termites
No crt is giving me scanlines this great though.
A monster has been acquired.28" Loewe HDTV with VGA input
The sharpness is nuts
>>12868165Not a bad idea. Maybe if I can find one that isn't super deep, it's not like consoles are very large compared to the back end of a CRT
>>12866684Found a bulging cap. Not sure if it's enough to prevent the set from starting up but it's easy enough to replace.
this is the best geometry ive seen personally on a >27". the curse is that moving it is awful and i already dont want to keep it
i dont have room for this should i go pick it up kek? i assume it wont have any inputs
>>12869271What do you even use something like that for? looking at archived microfilms and stuff like that maybe? Looks like something from a detective show.
>>12869273microsoldering i think
>>12869214Can confirm it is enough to prevent power on. I recently fixed a JVC that was littered with bad small/medium value caps in the power supply section. It acted dead before I changed them out. I use an LCR meter to test them in circuit.
>>12867798I can confirm, anon, shelfs do exist
>>12867813okay then, how do you know contrast is correct using that pattern?
>>12869214my mushroom cap is bulging
>>12869273I've seen these at nursing homes, they keep them in the library so old folks can read without squinting at the small print.
Do you prefer to play portable games on crt or lcd screens?
>>12869782gameboy on crt via super gameboy, everything else on plasma/lcd
>>12867798i have two of those little metal shelves from amazon that i keep everything stacked on, bottom shelves have some containers with cables and controllers, middle and top shelves have my consoles. when i want to play something i take it off the shelf and set it up in front of the tv im using (either basement, office, or bedroom CRT)
Doesn't look quite as psychadelic in real life but this was the best I could do with my shitty phone camera.
>>12869782whats it to ya?
xmb on ps2
>>12869159wide nigga pride
>>12870873because the devs intended they be played on lcd tech but because they are pixels they work well with crts
>>12869505Ah thank you anon, I was worriedI guess when I think of shelf, I think more of like a huge cabinet as opposed to a smaller stand or something. Like something closer to a shoe rack than a closet (which I actually used as my TV stand for a couple years after moving as the space for shoes was a perfect fit to place consoles)>>12869810So you just plug in which ever console you're playing? Not a bad idea desu, do you have a lot of consoles? I'll have to look into it
>>12869408Replaced 2 capacitors. 1 was bulged and the other read 0 uf on the cap test. Thanks anon.
>>12871254were they both in the power supply area? currently having this issue with a set rn
>>12871278Bulged one was in the middle of the board and the 0 uf one was halfway between the center and the power supply. They weren't right in the power supply area.
Have a 19" monitor near my area for 50 Golds but it apparently has an arcing issue. Worth the punt?
>>12871202>So you just plug in which ever console you're playing?NTA but if you do it this way make sure to get an extra cable and some female to female RCA connectors to avoid wearing out the ports on your TV. Also means you don't need to get behind it.
>>12863021I'm noticing a trend where these old chopped rf only sets are getting insane asking prices. Thankfully all the good component sets seem to be reasonable.
>>12865625Its ruined. There will be a line burnt across the screen. CRTs are ruined in seconds when frame collapse occurs. Consider that you are dumping 250 times the energy into a single line.
>>12871486I mentioned that to him when I made an offer. If I can get it cheap I'll take the gamble
>>12871073Awesome! How?
>>12871529https://github.com/HiroTex/OSD-XMB its a bit finnicky i couldnt get it to work from hdd, it works with both of the directories on the root of a usb though, will mess with it more later today
>>12865163>CRTs look like utter shit>this is mental illnessCRT monitors look great. But you have to buy the fancy models.CRT TVs suck and most of them ended up in trash. Suddenly suckers pay for them lol
The strange thing is none of you even have good TVs I remember huge flat CRTs really advanced stuff, all I see here is mostly garbage
>>12871672Post an example of what you mean.
>>12871672can't speak for others but I don't want to watch modern content on a CRT.My 21" fits in the window and I have my TCL for everything else.
>>12871672>huge flat CRTs really advanced stuff,You mean VGA monitors?Because Flat TVs suck compared to their curved counterparts
>>12871183you've never interviewed a dev
>>12871672This morning i picked up a god damn giga nigga fuck huge flat screen trinitron from 2002. I love crts, but i have no idea where the shit im going to store it. In the heat of the moment, i don't consider such things.
>>12871486Is there a way to tell beforehand when a collapse may occur so you can preemptively remedy it?
>>12872058>somewhat broken monitor standpvre sovl
>>12872347Not entirely. Though ensuring reliable contact on the yoke connector can at least prevent one common cause of frame collapse.
>>12872058>>12872381samefag
>>12872396lol, chill dawg. was just reminiscing because we had a broken monitor stand like that in my childhood.
>>12871662crt monitors, pvms, bvms, you lose the entire point of playing on a crt. you basically got just a tiny heavy shittier modern display.
>>12868963>>Includes period correct termitesThose termites overheat and they also need recapping, replace them with this new buck converter termites our sponsor provided
Fixed this horrible gateway monitor I got from the trash. No image despite it having high voltage, glowing guns, valid sync signals. All voltages from the PSU checked out. Turns out one capacitor near the flyback went bad. Didn't have the right one so I used big film capacitor in its place. That woke it up. Only does 800x600 at 32 bit color. $500 obo I know what I got
>>12863021I'd think about it if it's in good working order. Every woodgrain tv I ever come across is just in shambles.

>>12873487any modern piece of shit from walmart would be better than that
>>12873487You can find those for next to nothing since they look pretty bad. Give it a try. Last time I went to Goodwill they had like 10 lined up on a shelf
>>12873487stop larping, seriously.Youtubers aren't having as much fun as they pretend they are, they do it for money.Using an old piece of shit monitor is not worth it, get something modern and use shaders.

>>12874318Fair market value. It will sell at that price, if it hasn't already.
>>12873074actually fair price since you had to do something
>>12874318That's not a bad price at all for a 27" S-video in todays market. This is the kind of thing that sells if you don't snap it up immediately though. At least where I live anyway.
>>12873224800x600 is popular, Majikoi for example
My main CRT is under drop cloths as I repair the walls and paint. I'm so fucking over this project I wish I ever started

>>12874548Does this mean rape?
>>12874547yes
Well, I just cashed in my luck for the rest of the year. Won a local auction for a PVM-8044Q for $10. No other bidders
>>12874706How do you find local auctions where they have that kind of thing? gratz btw.
>>12874993Govdeals, set a 25 mile radius. I see CRTs in my area a couple times a month on there. One month the city govt listed a fuckton of 14-20 inch toshiba AF series but those went for like $100+ each for some reason.
>>12872881Both are sovl but I like collecting PVMs because I can stack them on top of each otherIt's easier to justify picking up another CRT when I don't have to ask myself where it'll go

Any recommendations for a splitter solution?I've now got a lot of different stuff I'm hooking up to my TV via component and I've been looking into getting a splitter that isn't one of the multi hundreds of dollar testing hardware looking ones.I've been considering a 3to1/4to1 splitter box but the only ones I can see online are manual button switches that all look like they come off the same assembly line and they're dirt cheap ($19-$35 dollars) so I imagine they might degrade the signal or something. Also considering just getting a male-to-female component cable to just make it so I don't need to get behind the TV to manually switch the cables.
>>12878865I have a 3 to one box. And I don't see degradation of signal . I think it's hard to degrade component and rgb because they use three different cables focusing on those signal types.
