You know what, that's something I'd like to see AI contribute to: figuring out what the hell is up with Primal Rage's DRM. It's never been solved and none of the people who worked on the game ever stepped in to help unravel it.
Fuck I remember renting this game one time. What a stinker! Seems they must have been really proud of it to bother with complicated anti-piracy technques tho.
big monster/kaiju fighter is a niche that badly needs to be filled in the current fighting game scene
>>12863228PR II actually looked like a more legit fighting game and not some gimmicky slap-fight Mortal Kombat wannabe (which itself is chop-socky slap fighting).
>>12863231It is, and there's the skeleton of a good game there but play it for yourself and see how unfinished it is.
>>12863228gigabashit's a power stone game
>>12863216Someone actually did recently though it's not 100 percent fixed. Still atleast some work is being done to improve the emulation.https://github.com/mamedev/mame/pull/16105
>>12863231PR II had too much human characters fighting and not enough dinosaurs
>>12863225I dunno about home versions, but it was a great spectacle for casual players (me) in the arcade. Wonderful atmosphere and animation, fun concept, cool characters... and that's all you need to justify throwing a few quarters in, and then maybe a few more so you can have a chance of seeing an ending.
>>12863883There was one Avatar human for every beast. It offered a good gimmick since each could transform into the other mid-combo, letting you pick the form you wanted to fight as primarily and have access to the other as combo filler. With enough tuning there would be a diverse spread of characters to pick from.
>>12863828Genuinely I there's nothing negative I can say about the use of AI in this instance because human input has proven totally unable to crack the problem.AI filling a gap human ingenuity struggles with is a perfectly valid use-case of it because it extends our ability, not replace it.
>>12863216>>12863231Had to think real hard which second-rate Clay Fighter characters these were.
>>12863216Might be cracked once GPT6.7 is out
>>1286636067?
It says online that even the arcade version is now fully playable
>>12863828>>12864387Well, AI didn't actually crack the protection, and neither did this person. What they did do is feed AI the PSX version of the game, and found the PSX version has the code-table used by the protection, completely unencrypted. The way the protection works is the protection chip is fed this code-table in order to tell the game info about positions and other details, and since MAME and other emulation just returns 0's you get all that funky behavior. The arcade version hid the table, the PSX version just has it sitting there. With this info fed into the protection scheme that MAME has emulated, the game now works correctly. What's notable is the MAME devs are allowing this dirty hack, solely because it fixes Primal Rage. They are usually pretty picky about making things accurate, so they asked the guy to fake it by making a device for the undumped protection chip, and putting the magic numbers in as a ROM file. Their compromise is to have it still marked as Protection Un-emulated.MAME has embraced AI in the most sane possible way. Any commits still need to follow their coding standards, still need to be reviewed and tested, and any use of AI needs to be attributed. In other words, people are welcome to use AI as long as they are honest about it, and use it as a tool instead of slopping it up.
>>12863216probably be easier to use ai to figure out how the unfinished moo emulator bypassed the checks and hack the roms based off that information
>>12868546>MAME devs are allowing this dirty hack, solely because it fixes Primal RageThey've certainly come a long way- remember when they nixed the sound effects in (iirc) Asteroids for not being accurate enough?

>>12868546Great use of AI, yeah.
>>12863828>>12868546yeah, I'm thinking ai analyzing the moo emulator might yield something. it's possible it too uses the ps1 decrypted table, but then again it's possible that the team behind it may have figured out the encryption and recreated that encryption chip.
>>12863216>I'd like to see AI contributeThread hidden.
>>12863216is a prototype of this hack the one armonte is working on?
>>12868749I remember one guy sending them a huge patch for some broken driver and RBelmont started bitching about some irrelevant minor thing in a passive-agressive tone that was just shy of outright insulting the guy, after which the guy pulled the patch back.
