The final boss of "I play every series starting with the first game" people. God lord this game fucking sucks. Great music though.
>>
>>12867857
I've never like the hitman series
there's something very bland and normie about them

I refuse to believe that even on this board someone is enough of a contrarian to like this game.
>>
>>12867865
Its an OK game especially for its time. Sequels are better but the game does not suck
>>
>>12867865
Well the hotel level is legitimately one the best on the series.

PoP 1 feels janky no matter which mods I try.

How.
Unique genre (social stealth puzzle)
Unique controls
Technologically advanced, I think codename 47 is the first game with ragdolls
Politically incorrect
Racist
Dark
Autistic protagonist
Only nuhitman trilogy and absolution is normie and kind of bland.
>>
>>12867903
They are hard as well.
>>
>>12867857
The game was awesome at the time.
Except they made it too fucking hard and for some reason incomplete.
Also I was a dumb kid.
>>
>>12867860
>there's something very bland and normie about them

Holy shit. Hitman certainly wasn't a "normie" game until like Blood Money or the new ones.
>>
>>12867891
>PoP mods
Because you're a fucking retard. It's not Mario.
>>
>>12867891
pop2 is even worse.
>>
>>12867857
The good thing about Hitman is that it doesn't have quicksaves so it's not a savescum simulator like some other steath games.
>>
There was nothing like Hitman before Hitman. It definitely had its issues, but I personally had a blast playing it.
Silent Assassin was a let down though. I had expected much more considering all the potential the first one had.
>>
>>12867930
This would've been cooler if the game was remotely well designed and not just a poorly disguised adventure game.
>>
>>12867924
it's literally the same controls
>>
I'm on the third to last level, counting them at this point until this mess is over. I didn't expect this game to get exponentially worse, but it did. Each mission is a bigger, dumber waste of time than the last.
>>
>>12867968
so why do you even keep playing it?
>>
>>12867982
Sunk cost fallacy.
>>
>>12867857
Yeah it's more proof of concept considering its development and since it was the studio's first game they were not sure what to do

Silent Assassin was a much more refined experience

>>12867865
It's easily the most interesting one to play
>>
>last mission is running around a maze with enemies that one shot you
One last nuisance the developers said, just one more and it'll be the perfectly annoying game.
>>
>>12867857
I've learned to skip PS1 era games. Ain't no way I'm playing the PS1 Armored Core games
>>
>>12868030
The game was only on PC
>>
That last mission was so fucking shit and I was so done listening to that faggot speak over the intercom I just turned on god mode. Thank fuck it's over.
>>
No Hitman Codename 47, no Hitman 2, Blood Money or Freedom Fighters

It's that important.

Also the only Hitman game I ever bought and I played it a ton.
>>
>>12867946
What's a well designed game then? Because I think the first game is very well designed for an assassination game.
>>
I have a very low tolerance for jank in a stealth game. getting your face rubbed in by a fubar mission is demoralizing when it was caused by some bullshit.
>>
>>12867882
Yeah the hotel, the fish restaurant, and Lee Hong were always my favorite levels. Hotel was definitely the best proof of concept for the entire series. The fish restaurant is pretty cool for being the only other stealthable level but once you know what you’re doing you can beat it in a minute
>>
>>12868226
It's cool how planting the weapon in the fish restaurant bathroom will be immediately obvious to anyone who has seen The Godfather. That was a nice way to reference something that basically 99% of your playerbase has seen.
>>
>>12868030
sir, this is /vr/
>>
This game has some of the most laughably bad voice acting ever, especially the chinese people

>>12868716
Well other stealth series like Splinter Cell and Thief already started strong with the first game, but those were made by experienced teams
>>
>>12868784
I love the bad voice acting, especially in Hong Kong. The civilian screaming “WUT YOU DOIIIIIIIINNNNNG??!” will be burned into my brain forever, as will 47’s extremely wooden delivery of the “I have to use the bathroom” line when he talks to the barkeep in the fish restaurant level.

Oh yeah?
>>
Playing the second game now and it might be even worse. Getting barked at by wops in their stupid fake language while I try to decipher what retarded bullshit these developers expected me to do step by step, not a great time.
>>
>>12869419
It’s been forever since I played 2 but the guards are really touchy and see through your disguise way too easily. Even though it’s pretty broken I definitely prefer the way it’s works in 1 where your outfit is 100% effective unless you’re seen doing a crime.

As much as I love the older games and have a lot of nostalgia for them, Blood Money and Nu-Hitman just btfo the first 3 games completely. Maybe a good new AI project would be to take the genuinely great levels from 1-3 and Absolution and port them into either Blood Money or Absolution’s engine to make one really good full length game. Maybe do one of those mashups where you have Blood Money gameplay mechanics running inside Absolution.
>>
ive played every entry in many series, or am working on (but did the shittiest most obscure shit first) for series like mario, dk, yoshi, kirby, zelda, mario parry, mario kart, kingdom hearts, final fantasy, star wars, dragon ball, bleach, metal gear, and more

trust me, you dont wanna know the horrors of old phone games (jp or western), touch screen phone games, gimmick peripherals like snes mouse or super scope, kinect, handheld versions of major games by D team studios, game & watch games (mario, zelda), flash games, nelsonic game watch, etc

if hitman 1 is abad experience for you consider yourself lucky
>>
>>12869436
contracts isn't bad. it's a bit harsh in terms of its stealth parameters compared to blood money but it's actually functional and consistent unlike 2.
>>
blood money > nuhitman 1 >nuhitman 2 > contracts > hitman 2 > nuhitman
>>
>>12869441
Why would you spend your limited amount of time on earth doing this? I guarantee there is someone alive who is 100x more autistic and 100x more Japanese than you could ever dream of being who’s already done it, and it ain’t exactly a prestigious claim in the first place
>>
>>12869474
ive traveled the world, experienced lots of things, lived out all my sexual fantasies, studied philosophy, astrophysics, law, computer science, programming, etc.
i regularly follow sports and have been to my favorite teams games and seen nearly all my favorite teams win titles.
ive seen every movie, tv show, porn, and anime i care to.

im ocd which is why ive managed to experience so many things.
its fueled by ocd but i also i just genuinely like playing video games. its what makes me hapy with my little time on earth. aside from good sex nothing helps forget the existential dread of inevitable eternal death more.

it doesnt sork to project your own life unto others. ive probably traveled and experienced more than you
>>
>>12869419
How about you try and not be retarded?
>>
>>12867860
I can see where you're coming from, but unless you've actually played them for yourself, you are absolutely missing out and for shallow reasons.

Blood Money in particular is a fucking masterwork of game design.
>>
>>12867903
Hitman contracts is so fucking good
>>
>>12869529
that's cool and all but playing a bunch of shitty phone games is still dumb.
>>
>>12867860

>>
>>12869529
> its what makes me hapy with my little time on earth
Not so OCD on spelling though
>>
>>12869474
I did something similar but chronologically, and honestly picking stuff from big franchises tends to be safe anyway. You don't spend much time on official flash games, phone games or gaymen watches. The worst you're gonna find is fruit machines and physical element/redemption arcade machines which are obviously not numerous and the latter generally not emulated so nothing to worry about.

Nowadays If I've got nothing to play I do random picks which are a lot less stale. No phoneshit, but likely more micro shit than him. I wanted more variety and that's been doing the trick.
>>
>>12869795
theyre still games that are inherently fun for being games and 90% of them are under 2-3, even 1 hour

Just started the Ace Combat series from the PS2 games. You can't stop me.
>>
This was a pillar of my child hood. I fucking rented this gamd at a local game store and burned it. First game I ever played that had ragdoll physics. I must have spent hundreds of hours just messing with the physics. The hotel level is legendary and my firings and I would make our own hit list in the hotel that we had to complete without getting caught and leaving. A janky ass game but somewhat ahead of its time. The later levels sucked ass tho
>>
>>12870219
Eh, anyone into those games won't find anything in the first game they haven't found in the sequels.
>needlessly maze-like map?
Check.
>shitton of grinding?
Check.
>needlessly complex demon-recruiting?
Check.
There's no reason anyone who enjoyed SMT wouldn't enjoy MT unless they are just a graphix fag.

>>12870330
>local game store rented PC games
>meanwhile by the mid 90's most places wouldn't even accept refunds on PC games/software because they figured you opened the box, copied the disks, and copied the CD-Key or DRM scheme
Where the hell did you live that was renting out PC games in the early 2000's?
>>
>>12870343
Canada. We had blockbuster but also had a few local game shops and only one of them rented pc games. It was pretty sweet since I would just rent and burn them for 5$. Its crazy to think they had cd-keys too that we would just write down
>>
>>12870359
I remember buying Half Life 1 for CS 1.6, used the CD-key and returned it to the store lmao
>>
The game was cubes and yank but it still had working mirrors, working ragdolls, and working elevators too iirc.
>>
>>12870626
I think the rag dolls were originally the games big selling point, the engine is quite impressive
>>
>>12870668
Can't remember if they were or if anyone cared about them but it was still like 5 years before Havoc was brought to mainstream with HL2 and MP2.
>>
>>12867857
>>12867865
it has some of the best missions in the series, admittedly, also some of the worst, but I liked the good parts, yes. no save system is hard to stomach nowadays but what can you do
>>
>>12870310
You'll miss 3! Stop that right now!
>>
>>12870343
You did not play Megami Tensei.
>>
>>12870085
lol are you serious? Absolution has a lot of problems but the Chinese New Year level is certainly not one of them. The nu trilogy has everything you could ask for aside from a Jesper Kyd soundtrack and a darker tone. I have no idea how you could like BM but not the new games.
>>
>>12867891
Stop trying to play it like a Nintendie platformer, scum-fuck.
>>
Well since the thread is still up I might as well update you all, I continued playing the second game and it's actually great. I was just still reeling from the assrape that was the first entry.
>>
>>12870838
I read on the wiki that the Western release of that game has tons of missing content, thus I skipped it.
>>
>>12867860
I used to think that too, as if it was some kind of gangsta game and what not.

But then after many years I tried it starting with C47 and the moment I heard the Hong Kong theme I knew I was wrong all these years

>>
>>12871206
Exactly, because it missess something
>>
>>12871206
>I have no idea how you could like BM but not the new games.
Easily. They're le new so they're le bad.
>>
>>12869848
You're the one losing your mind over one person mildly not liking your shitty series.
>>
>>12872054
Okay zoomer
>>
the first game is great
>>
>>12871206
No it doesn't, you're selling the rest of the games pre-BM of their tone and intention, the newer games feel more like fan games that only focus on the gameplay aspect (like how BluePoint got it wrong with Demons Souls)
https://youtu.be/cyLQXzjqfLQ?si=BrA7KORPV_EuYegR
>>
While Silent Assassin and BM are great imo C47 and Contracts feel like they capture everything the series is about better
https://youtu.be/odrY4iFfflk?si=lGaHWvQICsIDx2X7
>>
>>12876002
I love both vibes. 1 and contracts had a creepy, sleazy eurosludge atmosphere while blood money feels so classy and elegant even in its darker moments.

Not a fan of the James Bond heroic vibe of 2 and the nu series. I’m a big fan of the nu series but the tone and everyone having an American accent are very irritating misses on Io’s part
>>
>>12870798
All the best missions from 1 were remade in Contracts.
>>
>>12876726
>while blood money feels so classy and elegant even in its darker moments.
the steroids and bimbo blow up npc proportions, all the stereotype flavor, specifically the south. I sort of get what you're saying but I think there's a gratuitous streak in there.
>>
>>12867865
if I listed the games on the catalog, I'm sure it would be better than at least 90% of the games there. You don't like video games if you think this is unplayable garbage
>>
>>12876726
>Vibes
>"Eurosludge"

>>
>>12872054
Isn't there a superpower in the new Hitman games where you can see people even behind walls, kinda like a scan thing. Talking about trivializing the gameplay...
>>
>>12877037
Just don't use it
>>
>>12876002
Contracts looks like a David Fincher movie.
>>
>>12876893
true, and I also think contracts is ever so slightly the best and most balanced game in the series (even if BM is the best sandbox), but that doesn't mean you shouldn't experience the originals, especially with how good the OST was
>>
>>12869419
make sure to cap the framerate, the AI in SA is already broken but it's even worse at higher framerates.
>>
>>12878663
I played it on a Pentium D computer at a high resolution, it kept the framerate reasonable.
>>
>>12869419
you're not supposed to run marathons around them, but also the first mission was notorious for being a hard introduction to the game, and the guards recognize you because you know.... small family and you're clearly not one of them? the disguises are much more effective in the other missions
>>
>>12878786
>we're going to up the costume detection parameters for this one scenario because it's more intimate
not saying you're a liar but I find this kind of hard to believe. the sort of minutia devs rarely implement.
>>
>>12878792
well it is true lol, getting a mafia suit doesn't really work all that well because they recognize each other, especially when you go upstairs where you definitely don't belong and there you get shot on immediately, you're supposed to get the suit and flowers from the post office guy and that gets you in the compound and through the main house entrance and from there on out you stealth in the ''classic'' way, or you get the mafia suit from the guy taking a piss outside the walls and enter the kitchens, but still classic stealth from there on out. that mission is very harsh for a first mission and it had people complaining all the time

the japanese missions also have this detail because you're out of your normal patrol routes and snipers will take you out, even though the suit completely covers your identity
>>
>>12878803
i never managed to sneak around as the postman without pure luck. sometimes they don't even patrol and just stare right at you no matter what.
>>
>>12878809
I think taking out the guy who takes a piss and going through the kitchen is easier because you can fiber wire him and have a lot more time to figure out your routes inside and still get SA rating while knocking out the postman gives you limited time and he'll immediately run and rat you out when he wakes up, but it's been years since I played so I might be mistaken, you also gotta check on the padre and it's closer to the kitchen IIRC
>>
>>12878815
also the postman route requires some fucking esoteric knowledge of a dark corner under the stairs which you couldn't figure out on your own, but again, it's been quite a while
>>
>>12878815
easiest way i found was to steal the pissing guard's suit by killing him (you're allowed ONE for SA), steal the sniper rifle inside and get lucky by sniping the don while he plays golf. sometimes he'll fall off the balcony and sometimes he won't. i think it has to do with the swing animation.
