Besides healing, I never found any practical use for any of the spells or potions. Even the main feature of the game, the Crest system, feels lacking.Having to pause the game every time to swap forms or relics is a drag, especially considering the Mega Man X series had allowed switching weapons on the fly for years past.The Fire Crest in particular seems poorly implemented. The Aerial Crest (which you can get fairly early) renders the Tornado and Claw abilities pointless. IMO, instead of mobility, the Fire form should have focused on "fire"power, i.e. offense. One possible implementation for example; as you gradually rebuild the crest, the basic fireball attack gains abilities like piercing, charging for power, etc.

I just saw a playthrough of this not too long ago because of October trick or treat creepy stuff. It hardly has a good soundtrack and most of the environments are boring with dull colors. Story is told mych more weakly than the GB and NES ones in the series.No, I'm afraid you don't know what you're talking about. SotN is a much better game in many aspects, Ghouls and Ghosts aswell.
