The most influential 3D games ever made were all Nintendo 64 exclusives.
>>
>>12869249
Correct
>b-but ff7
>b-but crash
>b-but metal gear solid
All can work in 2d, Mario 64 and oot don't
>>
The most influential 3D games ever made were all on PC
>>
>>12869249
Hell yeah!!!
>>
>>12869249
>no tomb raider
>no quake ii
>no half life
>no medal of honor
>no final fantasy
>no gran turismo
>no metal gear solid
>no driver
>no tekken
>no crash bandicoot
>no resident evil
>no daggerfall
>no thief
>...
The entire industry moving forward derivated from the games above. They aren't on the N64.
>>
Wow so this is what /vr/ looks like when you're not talking about the latest translation or recomp.
>n64 good
Amazing. What an enthralling conversation. 10/10 everyone clapped.
>>
>>12869275
None of those had any influence on the industry.
>>
>>12869275
OoT, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, and SM64 were way more influential.
>>
>>12869295
mario kart and goldeneye effected absolutely fucking nothing

mario 64 didn't even influence that much, you don't see games trying to copy it until indie devs in the 2020s

platformers on ps2 and ps3 were all beat em ups and 3PS more than anything
>>
>>12869249
Let's see: Virtua Fighter, Quake, Resident Evil
That's a yikes from me, nintenlad.

The years is 1998.
>>
>>12869253
A Link to the Past was already quasi-3D with mezzanines, multi-floor dungeons, and jumping/burrowing enemies.

Shame nobody played them. Pissing away the incredible dominance of the NES and SNES inside a single generation seemed impossible at the time. THE Nintendo reduced to an also-ran by a company that made VCRs.
>>
>>12869275
Tomb Raider’s platforming blows compared to Mario 64, and the third-person shooting is equally crap. The series ran entirely on nerd lust for Lara Croft.

Final Fantasy and MGS are 2D games with 3D graphics (except for the handful of first-person shooting segments in MGS)

Resident Evil is a 90s graphical adventure game with dogshit combat tacked on

Crash Bandicoot is a 2D platformer with a behind-the-character point of view

Gran Turismo doesn’t fundamentally change how racing games have played since Pole Position, with the camera following your car from behind

Tekken is a 2D fighter with 3D graphics

The first-person shooters and RPGs on this list are the only games with legitimately novel 3D gameplay, and the N64 had some notable ones of its own (GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Turok, etc). It also got ports of Quake and Quake II, and an original Doom game.
>>
>>12869365
Not disputing the data or your point but the size of the n64 and Saturn bars are all out of whack on your graph, the 64 one should be over 3 times taller. The Saturn bar is way too tall and the 64 one is a bit too short
>>
>>12869370
Gran Turismo definitely raised the bar in terms of racing simulation and graphical presentation in general for console games. FF7, MGS, and Resident Evil were all really influential in their presentation as well, which was a huge deal in the 5th gen back when that kind of thing actually mattered. You can say that influence was bad because muh movie games or whatever but to say they didnt matter is dumb.
>>
>>12869253
>Mario 64 and oot
Half-Life had more influence than either.
>>
>>12869249
Can the jannies just ban and dox all the tendies on this board? Literal cancer
>>
I guess. What's your point? I don't think it makes a game better than another one because of the influence. There's not many games that control like RE2 but it's still a better game than Mario 64
>>
>>12869358
All 2d gameplay what the fuck are you smoking
>>12869385
You mean doom, half life didn't do anything for the fps genre beyond adding cutscenes
>>
>>12869391
Quit being so easily baited, holy fuck.
>>
>>12869295
To what? Lmao im sorry your toys aren't that important to everyone else.

Cope.
This is how influence works.
>>
The most raped kids ever were all n64 kids. It all happened in the sweet sweltering summer of 97, and they've never recovered.
>>
>>12869518
They're still gnashing their teeth and screaming and transitioning because of it to this day.

Help me get on your level of retardation.
Are you the type of person that says Doom is a 2D game?
Do you think pic related does not have 3D gameplay despite being able to move left/right/forward/backward and jump/fall?
Would you say that Ocarina's regular combat is 2D gameplay by your definition?
>>
>>12869279
holy zoom zoom
>>
>>12869421
>There's not many games that control like RE2 but it's still a better game than Mario 64
the fuck you mean, theres a shitload of games that control like RE2 ?
>>
>>12869526
Doom is a 3d game
Whatever thar is 2d like Sonic """""3d"""" blast
>>

>>12869249
Even Nintendo was blatantly copying the competition at the time.
>>
>>12869662
>Whatever thar is 2d
Speak English, drooling retard.
>2d
So despite the character being able to move in three dimensions, the gameplay is 2D to you?
>afraid to answer third question
Pathetic. So I guess you concede that Ocarina's combat is 2D gameplay by your own definition.
>>
>>12869278
Seething translation troon
>>
>>12869365
>by a company that made VCRs.
Sony in the 90s was about as big as Apple today.
>>
>>12869686
Not even close. Sony wasn't even the biggest Japanese consumer tech company of the 90s. Matsushita was.
>>
>>12869910
>Matsushita was.
explain how i never heard that name then while everyone knew sony.
>>
>>12870050
Maybe they didn't sell anything in whatever brown third world hellhole you live in. Though frankly I'd expect even jeets to have at least heard of Panasonic.
>>
>>12869249
>Elite (1984)
Showcased the potential that even very primitive 3D could have for gameplay
>I, Robot (1984)
One of the earliest commercially available 3D games that wasn't just wireframes. Its development lead to Atari continuing to work on 3D hardware with The Last Starfighter (cancelled) which then turned into both Hard Drivin' (1989) and the early hardware Namco used for their 3D games like Winning Run (1988) as Atari Coin-Op and Namco had a complicated relationship back then that included sharing a lot of stuff
>Virtua Fighter (1993)
Is directly cited by many hardware and software developers as the game that got them to start seriously working on 3D gaming, including the people working on the PS1 hardware
>Daytona USA (1994)
A technical masterpiece that at a cost of 30k per cabinet showed the future of 3D gaming, with the earliest prototype shown off at an industry expo the day after Nintendo announced their partnership with SGI

And that's just the major titles from the first decade of 3D gaming, with many more highly influential 3D titles being released in the coming years before you could even dream of buying an N64 at your local retailer
>>
>>12870070
i never saw a brown person irl before 2015 but whatever.
>>
>>12870381
ok chink
>>
>>12869279
That’s some tendi cult speak lol
>>
>>12869337
Good year but MGS is more playable in any era than OOT, and was more fun to play in 1998 too
>>
