so much peak and sovl for a single game i can hardly take it, holy macaroni
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j61kLlknTeEOne of the first songs I ever fell in love with
>>12869949Probably the first game I've ever beaten on a computer
>>12869949I remember you could sometimes throw a rock to lure or distract enemies and then melee attack them with your pistol, the gif is another way to deal with this part of the game.
>>12869983Why can't Japanese devs be half as cool as the French?
>>12869949It was excellent
>>12869949>being impressed by eurojank rotoslopAnon...
>>12869949i prefer Blackthorne. never beaten either of em
>>12872906Sovl
>>12872024eh. how many french platform games you know?and the sequel was shit.
>>12869949Definitive version with the uncut og intro at good framerate /vr/?
>>12872918>BlackthorneThank you! I didn't even know this was a thing
>>12872920That are good? Three. Flashback, Rayman, and Another World, which is one more than the amount of good Japanese platformers I know, which is Sonic and Mario.
>>12872024Funny how they stole part of what made anime from them
>>12872024>Why can't Japanese devs be half as cool
>>12872906flashback is one of the greatest games ever made, you jaded twat-tard
>>12872024Bugmen have no soul
>>12873173The French also created the first 3D platformer game in history, Alpha Waves, and it's actually really fun despite the simple graphics.
>>12873173>good Japanese platformers I know, which is Sonic and Mario.SANIC is american fuck yeah. Bandicoot was good japanese if you're gonna count SANIC. heck the famouse good guy Micheal Jackson helped with the music of SANIC.also Castlevania and Contra games are le classicks. but i loved Gunstar Heroes the most.
>>12869949Saw it at a friend's place - a really intriguing title... very artistic.
>>12873196Really cool game... it's from the SNES if I remember correctly.
>>12873196>monster comes you way>roundhouse kick it in the faceNasferatu is amazing
>>12873669>castlevania and contraContra is a shooter and Castlevania is an action game.
>>12874102Ok, that was the title...
The control was so nice and snappy in this, the classic console platformers all feel like you're gliding on ice and have weird momentum. This game was totally different, felt much more natural and realistic too.Clearly heavily inspired by Prince of Persia and possibly even Wolfenstein, with the stealth elements.
>>12872918I played through Blackthorne once on SNES. I thought it was pretty cool, especially the final boss. I guess I oughtta try Flashback sometime. How does the Sega CD version of Flashback compare to other versions? I know that I can just emulate any version, but I like using real hardware when it's not too impractical, and burning a disc for my Sega CD would be simple enough.
>so much peak and sovl for a single game i can hardly take it, holy macaroniDoes this mean the game is good? Why does this board not just use English? All the OPs are cancer.
>>12872024Jordan Mechner isn't french.
>>12873196This game was really spooky and great. Fantastic atmosphere and sound design.
>>12877456Jordan Mechner didn't create Flashback. Flashback is better than Prince of Persia and Karateka combined.
>>12877486Yes, he did. All Prince of Persia clones are just Prince of Persia with a texture mod.
My only complaint is that the game kind of peaks early, like they blew the whole budget on level 2.Still, it's a great game, and it aged like a fine wine.A shame the same can't be said for Fade to Black.
>>12877490Well not really. First, Flashback is so much smoother, snappier, and more precise than Prince of Persia. The devs used a more advanced technique of rotoscoping to achieve that. I guess in a way you could say it's a texture mod, but synching animations and game logic matter a lot in a game of this kind, so even if it is, it's really impactful for the gameplay.Second, it has much better puzzles and exploration because Paul Cuisset had a lot of experience with making point and click games. Prince of Persia feels a bit arcadey and repetitive. Flashback takes you to interesting places with unique tones and beautiful artworks and even makes you a part of the game's world through its organically cohesive ludonarrative. Yeah it's one of those games where ludonarative cohesion isn't actually a meme. Third, have you tried the combat in both games? Flashback just absolutely crushes Prince of Persia in this department so bad it's not even a competition, I don't even have to explain why. It's arguably better than all 2D side view game of its era, for that matter. In fact, the combat is what makes me keep going back to Flashback. The presentation, puzzle, music, and stuff are all cool, but the combat... It's just scary good for a 4th gen 2D title.
>>12873196This game has great animations, but gameplay is kinda meh.
