How did picrel manage to mindrape Sega & Nintendo into leaving the hardware market and pivoting into underpowered gimmicks for the latter?
>>12870468third worldism. its the only official console of bricshitter brown countries. osama bin laden had like 1000 of them
>>12870473>osama bin laden had like 1000 of themSo they were indeed supercomputers
>>12870504they had linux but also he was just into gaming
>>12870468The PS1 kicked the shit out of the Saturn, so Sega made the Dreamcast to kick the shit out of the PS1; which worked for about a year, until the PS2 came out, and kicked the shit out of the Dreamcast by being slightly more powerful, playing PS1 games, having huge titles (GTA3, MGS2) on the horizon, and most importantly, playing DVDsThen Nintendo makes the GameCube to compete with the PS2, and while the Nintendo games on it sell well, it just can't snatch the same audience that the PS2 does even with exclusive Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid games. So when they make the Wii, they stop trying to out-do Sony, and just focus on doing what Sony isn't able to do; making Nintendo games.
>>12870526>So when they make the Wii, they stop trying to out-do Sony, and just focus on doing what Sony isn't able to do; making Nintendo games. The software they put out during the Wii era was a huge step down compared to the gamecube and wii u. And the idea for the wii itself was stolen from former Nintendo R&D 1 guys. The guy who mainly did the famicom left nintendo and made his own company, he had a different vision of gaming. He wanted the famicom to literally be a family computer where the whole family comes together and games and improoves and shit. Nintendo wanted to sell hardcore games to sweats. So he left Nintendo and made his own wii-like device, it could do bowling and tennis and golf and some other educational shit. Then nintendo copied him and he sued. Forgot if he won or if they settled out of court.
>>12870561would be nice if you were more concrete instead of he said she said
Sony was the incumbent and they made no mistakes. Nintendo has their IP. Microsoft had better hardware. But all Sony had to do was not fuck up. Easy. Everyone Monday morning quarterbacks about Sega but it's the most useless conversation to have. They were in the toilet financially. There isn't a next time when you have no money for there to be a next time. Case fucking closed nerds.Nintendo. They have Mario and Zelda and Pokemon and Animal Crossing and a bunch of other things. The machines they make run those things just fine. Adults who obsess over children's games cry about framerates or whatever else. But the hardware keeps selling. The software does too. They know who their market is and they know how to get their money.

>>12870468>How didGames, I mean games, like 300 of them every 3 months, and every christmas alone ps2 got like 200 games per christmas season.
>>12870639That also means it was a shovelware magnet and had the weakest version of some multiplatform games. But there are other cases like GTA San Andreas for example where the Xbox or PC version looks better but various effects and things were botched in the port. For those GTA games the PS2 versions have the authentic visuals.
>>12870641The GTAIII trilogy came first on PS2 by the way.
>>12870643Yeah of course and they fucked up some things in the ports like the hazy look of GTA SA and weather cycles, other visual effects. When I was younger I was playing the Xbox version because that was the console I owned (softmodded) alongside a Gamecube. If you aren't familiar with the original version you wouldn't notice it but watching a YouTube video about it I became much more familiar with what I missed out on. It's mostly a bunch of little things but it's important to how it is actually supposed to look. I plan on playing through again when I get a PS2 soon. Maybe Silent already fixed everything in his patches but I'd still like to give it a go on original hardware.
PS2 had really strong third party support, I honestly feel like Sony had more first party exclusives with PS3. If you think about the big PS2 games a lot of them were third party MGS2, Silent Hill 2, FFX, GTA3, etc
Sega, Nintendo and Microsoft didn't had the holy grail
>>12870641>shovelwareHow is that a bad thing?I really don't understand this cope.Without "shovelware" the term hidden gem wouldn't exist.>Multiplatorm weakest versionNo one gave a shit about this. Everyone played on low tier crts with composite cables and said that games looked incredible.
>>12870670>No one gave a shit about this.Revisionist history lmao. People were definitely comparing and contrasting and you could even tell on composite. Usually I just ended up with Xbox versions because they could be pirated and I liked some Gamecube exclusive stuff. The PS2 exclusive stuff I cared about and would have wanted to play was Japanese in origin.
>>12870468The ps2 was the continuation of the ps1s victory, people like to talk about the DVD playback over the other consoles, but it was really the backwards compatibility of the consoles with an older library along with brand-new titles that kept it solid for years. If you were gaming in 2000 and got a ps2 you surely already had alot of ps1 games already so buying a new console that can play your old stuff while still getting better looking games was a no-brainer.
>>12870680Ok, I will redacted that. From "no one'' to vast majority.
>>12870705Well if you were some 12 year old kid with no friends maybe you wouldn't notice. But these were hot topics when I was in school. There was what was said about the consoles in the magazines and on the internet. Then you would go to a friend's house who actually had one of these consoles to see what it was capable of in person. That's what the damn store displays were for too. It wasn't just uber nerds like me who were hanging out in piracy IRC channels talking with people who own all 3 consoles and have a PC gaming setup while others like me give the poor man's opinion on what's good with the single device they game on. These things circulated IRL too.
>>12870680>People were definitely comparing and contrasting and you could even tell on compositeThis is revisionismPeople didn't have quick and convenient access to youtube videos, google images, forums with multimedia support, etc.No one gave a fuck about the gamecube and xbox having better graphics, even the hardcores bought them for Halo & Super mario, not because RE4 & GTA SA have slightly sharper textures and draw distance
>>12870724Do you think we needed all of that? If you came over to my house all 3 consoles were there. At one point there was my brother's gamecube, my gamecube, my sister's ps2, and my xbox. A kid I knew up the street had a PS2 and xbox. I softmodded his xbox and put the leaked French version of Halo 2 that was a bad dump on his hard drive. I decided the PS2 version of Soul Calibur 2 was the worst of the 3 after playing it at his house. I watched Gamespot TV/Xplay sometimes so I'd see things but generally I'd pick up on whatever was going on quickly from IRC. The verdict of the gamers was always swift.
>>12870727>If you came over to my house all 3 consoles were there.I'm sorry to hear your parents babied you enough to get you all 3 consoles. The majority of people (kids up to young adults) only had 1 current gen one. Not everyone is fucking rich
>>12870734Each child in the household got their own console for Christmas so we would not fight over a single one. My parents also figured that getting different ones meant if we wanted to play platform exclusives we could just borrow etc. It worked out. I ended up getting a Gamecube in a bizarre way. One of my best friends who I am still in touch with got it from his teacher with no accessories. I traded him my old mp3 player for it. Then I managed to gather everything I needed to get it working. Sometimes I'd borrow games from my brother, I bought a couple (unlike Xbox where I pirated fucking everything) and rented everything else.
Making smart business decisions and not pissing off devs or betraying partnerships.
>>12870473>brown
>>12870734You're right about the 1 current gen console thing but your post just sounds like poor person seething. The real move to having multiple consoles was getting them right after they were no longer current gen. Also, now that I'm older I realize children really aren't that expensive and if your kid is into gaming buying them a console every few years is pretty easy.
>>12870887>The real move to having multiple consoles was getting them right after they were no longer current gen.I grew up during a time when the new console was actually a generational leap and not another x86 upgrade so i actually valued getting the new console with multiplayer functionality to play with friends over some bing bing wahoo console. Also i don't live in amerimuttland and i had dial up so said bing bing wahoo was not prominent anywhere unless you seeked it outYou sound extremely american and most likely born after the great recession. >now that I'm older I realize children really aren't that expensive and if your kid is into gaming buying them a console every few years is pretty easy. You're underage if you say bs like this
>>12870473>osama bin laden had like 1000 of themfolding@cave
>>12870939>he thinks saying bing bing wahoo is funnyYeah it's obvious you had dial up and didn't make it to 4chan until /pol/ was the dominant board.
>>12870962you definitely are underage if you think imageboards need any kind of broadband
>>12870724>People didn't have quick and convenient access to youtube videosYou weren't alive at the time. Youtube did not invent media.
>>12871086There was no video sharing site before youtube
>>12871086Magazines were the main source of information about games. I don't recall a single magazine, like EGM, that featured side-by-side comparisons of screenshots from games running on different consoles. Even if they had, the quality of those images would have been terrible. Anyway, your fav magazine would be related to the console you own, like the official playstation magazine, the official Xbox magazine, or nintendo power. They don't care about other platforms. The focus on comparing graphics and performance only really gained traction with youtubers like Digital Foundry
>>12870939I was born in the late 90s, and I didn't/don't really care about multiplayer functionality. It's a cool bonus that matters less the older I am.Since I enjoy video games I actually want to play them, not have a social hangout while a game I'm partially paying attention to is running.>You're underage if you say bs like thisYou sound old as hell when you say things like "bing bing wahoo", but also 18 when you say you care about playing multiplayer with friends/think spending a few hundred dollars once every few years is unimaginableAre you south american?
>>12871049He was calling you a third worlder, unc
>>12871138>>12871140>but also 18 when you say you care about playing multiplayer with friendsHow does that sound underage? Playing with friends doesn't mean hopping on fortnite, it means playing Little big planet, GT5, BF bad company, borderlands and so on.Online functionality in the 2000s was extremely minimal on the PS2 and non existent if you were still stuck with a PS1 somehow
>>12870468Sega shot themselves in the foot and caused many of their hardcore audience to lose confidence in the brand which is why the Dreamcast sold so poorly (especially in Japan). In the case of Nintendo, they had more powerful hardware for two generations in a row and watched as their competition with the less powerful system won out both times. Plus, they saw the writing on the wall (everyone did) that graphics would eventually hit a wall and reach a point of diminishing returns. So they went into the next generation with the mindset that innovation and experience are more important than hardware specs or graphical fidelity. This was actually a return to form for Nintendo, going back to what Yokoi had been pushing years earlier and it was a rejection if the things that Yokoi left the company over.
>>12870582>Microsoft had better hardwareBith the Xbox and 360 had severe hardware flaws which is a big part of why people don't like the brand.Especially in Japan. The original Xbox struggled to get a foot in the door anywhere, but the 369 carved out a niche for itself in Japan thanks to support from Japanese devs offering cool games that cater to Japanese tastes. But then the red ring shit showed up and Japanese gamers absolutely would not forgive that (and they shouldn't!) And Microsoft's handling of the situation was atrocious, so any hope Microsoft had of success in Japan was lost after that.
>>12871354the only hardware flaws were the casing. the original xbox was too big, and the controller was too big. they should have done like pc engine and had a japan model with a totally different case. everything about it was too foreign feeling, and not in a good way. they pandered hard in the 360 era with blue dragon, cave games, idolmaster etc but even then they only sold 1/10 of what the competition sold. so they gave up.
>>12871354nothing in this post is true.og xbox was the best hardware of the generation.nips hated xbox because it was big and american, they never had any chance whatsoever.360 sold like dogshit in japan too. like 100 units per month.the red ring shit did not matter to the nips because they never bought the console in the first place.Microsofts handling of the RROD was exemplary (they burnt 1 billion $ for extended service time free of charge to everyone). it's Sony who handled the YLODs atrociously (they offered a silent bow).
>>12871171>Online functionality in the 2000s was extremely minimal on the PS2 and non existent if you were still stuck with a PS1 somehowOnline functionality at the time was something shared with friends too. You'd invite a friend or two over because you had the network adapter and just rented the new socom or you got a 14 day free trial for live and were willing to hook up your console to your modem. And a big thanks to Bungie who decided to let people go split screen and online at the same time.
>>12871367>it's Sony who handled the YLODs atrociously (they offered a silent bow).or the psn hack where everyone got their credit card info leaked to the dark web but at least they gave you a couple of old roms in return to "make up for it"
>>12871378It's weird how both steam and playstation had massive leaks at the time but I never met anyone with a stolen card lol
