these are never discussed amongst other golden age cabinets like donkey kong, pacman, space invaders
Japan won WW2 and rewrote our understanding of culture
millipedes are grosscentipedes are grosser
>>12870673it wasnt that good, lets be honest.
>>12870673 (OP) #it was that good, lets be honest.
>>12870673Apeiron was better! (it also got forgotten)https://youtu.be/WzMFrqSaHiM
The art is brought up quite often. Nokia is the best way to play though.
>>12870673even on release it seemed dated. it lacked the pixel smooth movement of its rivals is the kind of game a ZX81 can put out
>>12870673the only people who liked centipede were fucking midwestern hicks. it kinda only gets talked about bc it was programmed by a dumb bitch. millipede was decent but not really comparable to the classics
>>12870674Not enough
>>12870758Centipede is a great game, retard, and was co programmed by a man anyways and it has a cool color palette thanks to the woman. Plug the maze is made out of magic mushrooms. Grug like Trak-Ball games too and Centipede have Trak-Ball.
centipede will live in my memories as the first machine i ever put initials on at 6 years old
>>12870673>why have (something i've seen/played/heard of/released 40+ years before you were born) been memoryholed?holy fucking cringe. absolute cringe.
>>12870673Even something that used to be common as DK cabs have now been memoryholed. You're more likely to find 20th anniversary Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga cabs in the wild than you are the original cabs of either game.
>>12870673didn't translate well to home consoles because you didn't have the sick spinny-ball thing that the arcade cabinets did. That was what made the game fun.
>>12871598Some 4th gen consoles came out with mice addons, it could've worked fine enough.
>>12871602add-ons are a novelty but even the pack-in ones hardly get used, and definitely not by 99% of people using emulators. Duck Hunt was fun with the light gun that came with the system. It would not be fun to play with a controller and buying all of these special control accessories that only work with one or two games has never been popular. This is one of the cool things about arcades and one of their advantages. Part of why they declined was because the companies were looking toward home console ports and started avoiding special controls. Sega and Nintendo both tried selling accessories or including them as pack-ins with games but it's not the same. The robustness of the arcade cabinet had a lot to do with it. Sitting in a cabinet driving the steering wheel and pedal on a racing game is infinitely better than using some plastic steering wheel controller at home.
>>12871621>Part of why they declined was because the companies were looking toward home console ports and started avoiding special controls. That's why I heard Marble Madness 2 didn't get released at all. Its control scheme was changed drastically to adjust for home console players, and it never would've worked.
>>12871623Arcades could do really well again right now (if we solved our public spaces issues...). This is because the hardware gap between pc/console and what is popular. You can put a $15k setup inside a cabinet and have the absolute peak graphics and performance for a game at level very few could afford at home. Add on special controls customized for it and you're in good shape. Think of something like a GTA that plays short special missions designed for arcade use.
>>12871687The thing is, companies like Raw Thrills have adapted their arcades to use PC hardware for decades. Hell, some of it is a lot lower-end than you'd expect, with some running simple embedded OSes.
>>12871691That's why no one gives a damn about their arcades
Centipede, with the Trak-Ball controller, was one of the great games on the Atari 5200 thanks to it being a great port, getting around the usual joystick issue, and using Pokey sound which was very authentic given the arcade game used the same sound chip.
>>12870673Why do people like you use the term "memory hole" to just say you haven't seen someone talk about something as often as you would like? It's not that hard to find someone talking about these games if you know where to look. The websites where people talk about them are EXTREMELY well known. You know that it's a term from 1984 for the purposeful destruction of historical records. Like "memory holing" would be say deleting the wikipedia articles on these games. What's ironic is a major theme in 1984 was that language would get degraded and people would sound stupidier. Which is what this is.
Because I prefer Squirmer.
>>12871448Imagine being so strung out on shrooms that you can't even fucking spell straight. You are a waste of time in this discussion faggot. Time to go to rehab and pick up the pieces of your miserable life.
>>12870673I really dug Centipede(VC2600 and arcade). It was way more fun to me than Pacman for example. Maybe the game's chaotic nature prevented it from becoming a classic... I have to check out millipede.
Another retarded OP
>>12871831Thank you, captain autism
>>12872691Trak-Ball(tm) is an Atari trademark name you fucking imbecile. Imagine being such a lamer newb that you don't even know that.
>>12873409Congrats on your smol pp, anon.
>>12873526Sick of you ignorant newbs. Bet you think Atari Games and Atari Corporation were the same entity...never gonna make it, faggot.

>>12875212I held the local highscore for years on my local centipede cocktail cabinet and have marathon'd the game multiple times, watch your fucking mouth faggot
>>12870673For the true experience you need a trackball. Game honestly plays like shit without one, or if you use a mouse it's too easy.
>>12871568thats more age and the fault of collectors thoughbeit
>>12875487Pull the Butt PLUG out of your ass, gaylord.
