>better than a speccy in every way.>IS a speccy but with a far better colour pallete.>never mentioned, ever.this machine is a hidden gem, and its time /vr/ learned about it
>>12870731Well not many people owned these. It's like with Amigas. They were impressive at the time but not so many people owned them or can be bothered to talk about it so many years after.
>>12870731The CPC is pretty cool, we had a decent thread about it not too long ago: https://desuarchive.org/vr/thread/12658998/The problem with its palette is that it's only fully available in the lo-res mode (160x200, like the C64). The hi-res modes are neat, it even supported 80 column mode for CP/M.
it had the best version of Head Over Heels, the best 3D isometric puzzler everhttps://youtu.be/kLGXGHQfMDE?si=5mZc2SdzC7DOJTAh
>>12870747 (me)>fully availableCorrection, you define a custom 16-color palette out of 27 possible colors.
it's actually spelled schneider cpc
>you MUST pronounce it "Zed-Ex">even if you're not from hereBut why?
>>12870805Zeta Equis
>>12870805Because that's the name.Brits aren't saying Zed Zed Top either
>>12870804I prefer the Schneider's more sober appearance, and it comes with a palette cheat-sheet on the disk drive.
>>12870818Wow, I didn't know Germany had QWERTY computers
>>12870826Yeah, it's strange they weren't QWERTZ. I've looked it up and apparently they used the same firmware as the British Amstrads, they just rebranded the case but were otherwise identical.Maybe an oldfag germanon can tell us if that caused issues or affected its popularity?
in your heeadin your heeeeadhttps://youtu.be/jtyTZDKPmTQ
>>12870812>Brits aren't saying Zed Zed Top eitherThat's where you're wrong mate
>>12870826>>12870836It was normal for the time for computers not be completely localizedEven the popular C64 sold at German Aldis was QWERTY
>>12871562Thanks for the info. I've seen pics of AZERTY French Amstrads, and in Spain computers were required by law to be localized since 1985. I guess it varied a lot by country and by distributor. It's pretty cool that you could get a C64 at an ALDI.
>>12870731>better than a speccy in every way.Nope. It's slower than Speccy. The graphics have more bits per pixel, making it slower to render, and the memory is unified, slowing down bus access. Just compare R-Type on Speccy vs CPC, CPC is slower. On the other hand, CPC has scroll registers, but barely any game used it.
>>12871734To add insult to injury, many of the ports were disgusting on a technical level. Barbarian converted its graphics from the C64 layout to the CPC one on the fly, for instance.https://youtu.be/jzoRrcpxmWY
Thoughts on the CPC plus/GX4000? I really like RoboCop 2
>>12872793Never seen one in the flesh and haven't really emulated it. I just know that it had better color, hardware sprites, and could drive the AY through DMA; the latter two being very nice to put less strain on the CPU.
>>12870731what's the best game for it?
>>12870731Loved game reviews featuring it as a child - great memories. Never got one though and never saw one in the wild because all people had C64s.Looks really cool!
>>12870767The saturated colors looked super nice in some titles...
>>12872834x2
>>12872834>>12872842As >>12870748 says, its Head Over Heels port is very nice:https://youtu.be/N1tKlVzcxIQ
>>12872851Very nice - the title screen is one of those pieces where pulled of the look perfectly.Game play also does look very nice. In some ways I prefer the 464s gfx to that of the C64 but there's many in betweens.
>>12872857>I prefer the 464s gfx to that of the C64The 464 palette is nicer and it doesn't have attribute clash but, unlike the C64, it doesn't have hardware sprites, so very few games run at 50Hz.
>>12872861Dude, you must be the weirdest spammer on this godforsaken board.

>>12872998I know very little about the microcomputer scene in South America, so that was a cool read.
>>12870805FedExed Rectum
>>12873746Best when delivered hot...
>>12870731It IS cool, but there are basically little to no games that utilize the colorful mode well (i.e. not hogging too much of the screen or being too pixelated), while also having a decent performance. When it is done well, it is a pure joy, but you have to dig through a pile of shit and most of the time not even newfangled homebrew makers do it right.
>>12872868He pays one gorillions of dollars for chatGAYPEDOTRANS per month so his mindbroken ass must force itself to find some use for it or he will literally die.Spamming is a cope mechanism for AI bros. They wasted time, money and effort on making this AI thing happen and they can't believe how useless it is.
>>12872861Oi! Me Speccy!
>>12873674>I know very little about the microcomputer scene in South America, so that was a cool read. Most people here don't know there was one, kek, computers only got somewhat "popular" here in Argentina after windows 95. Before that it was niche as hell and only people with real money could afford them.
>>12870731>>better than a speccy in every way.I owned both back in the day.I had a lot of fond memories of my speccy +2 but almost none with my 464, it was just awful, shitty framerates and tiny play-windows always come to mind.Neither were really built for gaming, but christ was it evident with the 464.To think I actually sold my C64c to buy one.
>>12872793>thoughts on the CPC plus/GX4000? I really like RoboCop 2I'm the same fag as >>12874378My best mate at the time had a CPC+, I don't remember playing Robocop 2 on it but likely did. I do remember that Pang was really nice at the time on the cartridge version. But man those cartridge game prices were a killer, which in many aspects weren't really any better than the tape versions.I think he only kept it for like a year or so until I bought an Amiga and he followed suit.So yeah, I don't have fond memories of Amstrad back then
>>12873924>two more weeks till the AI bubble collapses and my shartist allies on bluesky are vindicated
>>12872834A lot of games have better versions on Amiga or Atari ST.Still >>12870894 is pretty good. It's a French unofficial adaptation of Dawn of the Dead (which was called Zombi in Europe). And as >>12870748 puts, the isometric platformers are nice. Batman is also good.My picks for other decent ports are Bombjack, Buggy Boy and OP's Akanoid 2.And for exclusives or original version:Sram and its sequel are staples of French text adventuresSapiens is a unique prehistoric man survival simulationImperialis for a basic Cold War simulation that's fun with a friendFruity Frank : a well made Mr Do cloneTensions : a classy strip poker game

>>12872834Unlikely to be the best game, but I like the version of Exolon that it got.
>>12872861Full English on my speccy? Oi!
Most popular CPC demo on pouet. Extremely impressive.https://youtu.be/dqjZNnjNu3Y
