Amazing how long this utter sham of a series has persisted, despite how little anyone actually gives a shit about it

(Prince of Persia sucks balls too btw)

PoP1 was pretty great. But yeah, everything after TR1 only sold well because mammary glands.

If you think the appeal of Tomb Raider is tits and guns, you didn't play the game.
>>
>>12871025
The appeal was clunky primitive 3D platforming and shooting in ugly environments with lots of cheap deaths?
>>
>>12870959
TR1 is wonderful. Still play through it on occasion. Great ambiance. You're a faggot btw.
>>
>>12870959
tomb raider is a classic. it’sokay to just admit you’re gay and suck at old games, and that you have no attention spam or patience and can’t enjoy a single thing in life except cum in your bum
>>

Ignorant braindead low IQ ADHD Zoomer thread No. 987.
>>
>>12870959
Yeah, duh. That's why the Gameboy game was exactly a Prince of Persia game with guns. If you don't like that then you don't, but Tomb Raider is an awesome game with or without boobs. They were ugly triangles originally anyways.
>>
Notice how, in the 30 years since the original, there’ve been no meaningful retrospectives on Tomb Raider and its impact on the games industry. That’s because it was all just a forced marketing meme by Sony and Eidos in the 90s to sell a series of mediocre PS1 games featuring a big-tiddied CG babe with guns. The games themselves were completely forgotten by the turn of the millennium. The Angelina Jolie movies were the final gasp of cultural relevance the series ever had.

yes there have, every 5 years for decades during the era of game magazines. you are a retard just making shit up. the new games sold really well, long after the movies

>Notice how, in the 30 years since the original, there’ve been no meaningful retrospectives on Tomb Raider and its impact on the games industry.
I think the issue is that it's such a genuinely unique game series that there are no clones that take after it, nor any reason for them to exist given how idiosyncratic its mechanics are, so there's no clear line of influence despite it being a great game and also a real pioneer of 3D gaming. It's also legitimately shocking that it doesn't get championed from a 'feminist' angle, given the actual involvement of women in its development.

To be fair, it takes a fairly high IQ to understand tank controls.

>>12871103
Tomb Raider was the first worldwide widely successfull 3D action adventure game. Until the 6th gen, every time there was a third person character driven action adventure game people, including reviewers, were like "so this is like Tomb Raider", even if it had nothing to do with Tomb Raider. I mean people weren't just saying that about stuff like Indiana Jones or Time to Kill, they were saying it about everything, and if Ocarina of Time wasn't made by Nintendo, they'd have said the same thing about it too.
That's without even mentionning games with female protags.

what a retarded thread. if you'd have played either of those games it would be obvious that Tomb Raider wipes the floor with PoP where it matters, the gameplay and level design
TR's levels are so much more intricate and well-designed than PoP it's not even a fair comparison, but it's natural considering it has an entire 3rd dimension to play with. it's like the level design of Blackthorne vs Doom, the former can't compete
as for the appeal being 'tits and guns', one of the worst parts of TR is the combat, and her tits are like 6 tris total and probably couldn't even be seen clearly on a CRT at 320p
>>
>>12871575
80's throwback?? Have you literally never seen the original Tomb Raider game?

I think the appeal of Tomb Raider is that it lets you play as an archeologist in settings that are naturally mysterious like ancient tombs, temples, caves, etc looking for ancient relics. If Lara was a man it would've still been a successful game because afaik no other game scratch that itch. From the top of my head I can't remember any game similar to Tomb Raider where you are an archeologist hunting for artifacts in similar evocative environments

I don't think Georgio was a personality back when the original TR was released, but I would have played it.
>>
>>12872813
It’s good, but they’re not all from PS3 sales as the post suggests. Those are combined sales from being released on practically every semi-relevant game platform from the past 20 years.

She's sn obvious female Indiana Jones analog, of course. I was talking about her in game model not actually being attractive to look at until later games.

>>

>I-I-I-I-I-IT ONLY SOLD WELL BECAUSE IT RELEASED ON LITERALLY EVERYTHING!
If it wasn't relevant or popular, nobody would've bought it in the first place, dumb ass.

Also, it sold 8.5 million units only 2 years after release, chump.

>NOOOO you can’t just say facts!!!

>>
>>12873198
Not him but it sounds like you're trying to imply that the game getting tons of ports and selling really well somehow indicates it's not popular?
>>
>>12873203
No one ever said that.
>>
>>12872848
>not pictured: all the cheap deaths and pure memorization required to get to this point
No one plays the game and plays like this, this is pure replay gameplay.
The actual game is slow and full of cheap deaths because you'll get killed around every corner if you don't know every single trap that is coming your way and how much time you have to pick up items.
It's a game where you get dunked until you memorize segments and at which point there is no real risk nor excitement.
Spontaneity, creativity and versatility are not even a thing in these games.
>>
>>12873204
That's the premise of the thread...
>>
>>12873206
No, the premise was that sex appeal is the only reason the series was popular (false, of course). OP even expresses bewilderment at the series’ continued relevance.
>>
>>12873198
It didn't give any false information. It said how much it sold and a platform it was on. Odd he chose PS3, since it was never an exclusive, but he wasn't wrong in anything he said.

You should probably cut your dick off and feed it to wild dogs, it's the most you'll ever do otherwise in life.
>>
>>12873215
Yeah do this statement which seems to have started this back and forth is completely right >>12871115 that's a good number of units highlighting the series on-going popularity. There are plenty of games with fap bait but bad game design that never become a phenomenon the way Tomb Raider did.
>>
>>12873205
Yes, you actually have to learn how to play the game. Yes, it is challenging. Yes, there is a high knowledge and skill ceiling. You're just a little bitch who wants everything spoon fed to you. Here this is more your speed. *jangles keys*
>>
>>12873237
>Yes, there is a high knowledge and skill ceiling.
Absolute delusion, it's a borderline FMV game with how linear the whole thing plays out.
>>
>>12873205
>No one plays the game and plays like this, this is pure replay gameplay.

That's one of the sequences near the end of the game. See all those spike walls? You have to learn where to jump and when and to keep moving. That's kinda the crux of the game as a series. It's fine if you don't like it, but all you're doing is highlighting you've never played it so why should anyone care about your opinion on the series?
>>
>>12873243
>tomb raider
>linear
>>
>>12873253
It's easy to mistake a game for being linear when your only experience of it is from watching youtube videos.
>>

That's the first level of TR2, and I can assure you I got through first try (although getting the jade dragon took a few goes).
You have to learn the controls.
>>
>>12876571
No you didn't you liar lmao. No one passes the first level of TR2 without wasting a few lives to memorize the traps and figuring out what to do.
