I really enjoyed playing through Lode Runner. One of the best action-puzzlers I've played. Simple but clever and fun.
>Lode Runner? More like LODE-A ELEPHANT DIARRHEA. Makes feel like running alright… INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC.
>>12871460What about the PC original where you could see the whole map at once? NES Lode Runner has some nice presentation, but it's too zoomed in to see anything.
>>12871534There's a GBA version and it was only released in Japan, but it's pretty much the same game as the famicom version
>>12871912I know an SG-1000 version exists, but it's basically identical to the original game it's based off of.
>>12871534Yeah I wish someone would make a version that looks and sounds like the NES version but more zoomed out and with all 150 levels. I know it's shallow, but Hudson's designs really did make it more fun to play for me.>>12871916SG-1000 has 80 levels, better than the NES version but not perfect
>>12871460Picrel is another famicom game where you often just run away from enemies
>>12872021https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OniNqbm7e5o>>12871912I'm convinced that the GBA version has randomized stages as my recent playthrough didn't have these levels as far as I can recallhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEobHMDveoE
>>12872021Bomberman is more similar to Lode Runner than Qtarou
>>12873449I mean, both of them can affect the environment with their abilities albeit temporary in Lode Runner's case>>12871916There was even a Mac version and I remember being annoyed with the sticky stuff on the ground slowing you down
>>12873449I'm pretty sure people already know it, but ending of some versions of Bomberman straight out tells that Lode Runner is a sequel to Bomberman.
>>12873604Wow, I would've never guessed. My first impressions was actually Pac-Man except it's easier to fight back. I only said bomberman earlier because I remembered this bomberman + DOOM game on the Mac earlier and it's been on my mind the whole day, in case anyone's wondering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPXf1XK5nNM
>>12873610If you want to look for inspirations, the original "full" bomberman game was based off of a 1980 BASIC demo of theirs. If they were inspired by anything then, it would probably be Heiankyou Alien except instead of digging traps, you just put a bomb down. This was a more basic (heheh) version of their game though.Pengo gets credit for the destructible blocks. That is believable as it was a popular arcade game predating "full" bomberman, but the source for the claim is a British Magazine saying:"Remember Bomberman - A 90s rehash of Pengo" in a review of Dynablaster. They are likely referring to the 1991 Irem arcade Bomberman (which is Dynablaster iirc), but it still makes it seem like they don't know Bomber Man existed prior to this or were a Pengo fan playing the long con. The 2nd is funnier, so that's what I'll believe.
>>12873670Cool! Thank you, I didn't know that.
>>12871460Cool.
The Dig Fight is the best Lode Runner. The coop is amazing, too.
