I'm trying my hand once more at this with the goal of 100%ing it. We'll see how it goes.It really is flawed tho. Shame too it could have been gigakino. It's not even the backtracking, I kinda think it's cool that you get new moves later and have to go back to complete a level.More bothersome I find:>difficult orientationlevels are huge and some look very same-y, makes it hard to stay oriented and not have to spend ages searching that one placeWorst offenders: glitter gulch mine, jolly rogers lagoon. Grunty Industries gets a pass because that's part of the schtick.>shooting minigamesthey're mostly not challenging just frustrating. Try and find all the dynamite sticks or sludge heaps in the limited time. So utterly tedious. It's really like an unfinished masterpiece. If they'd gone all the way it would have been glorious. It feels like a wholly different game from BK, the scope and ambition are on a en entirely different level.
>>12873719pterodactyl land is the worst by far, except for the vertical sections
>>12873768y tho
>>12873781easiest to get lost in because everything is orange/brown, unappealing aesthetic, farty music. i just try to get it over with as quick as possible
>>12873781also all the interiors are caves cut into the wall lacking anything that would be remarkable
>>12873849I feel like jolly rogers is even more confusing but fair point
I’m tried playing this again and had to look up on how to beat the first guy cloning, after that I got bored pretty quickly cause I feel the first game is far more superior and fun
>>12874274BK is simpler and more humble in its scope, so it achieves what it sets out to do with flying colors. It's practically flawless as such.Tooie sets out to do much more but it's profoundly flawed, hell it's literally unfinished. So you could say BK is 99/100, but BT is 600/1000. Tooie does much more, but it also falls short significantly of its own goals.I also find BK more satisfying, but BT is more interesting because it's so complex and expansive.
>>12873719>It really is flawed tho. It's no more flawed than Ocarina of Time if we are being honest. Tooie really deserves a lot more accolades for being such a high caliber game.>levels are huge and some look very same-yNot a single level looks the same, and there's warp pads for every focal point.> jolly rogers lagoonThe worst level of the game, but still better than nearly every level of Banjo Kazooie.>not challenging just frustratingThat's a bit overzealous, genuinely frustrating things stand out a lot more than an optional mini-game like this. It's just pretty difficult, not all that frustrating as far as these things go.>Try and find all the dynamite sticks or sludge heapsThose are the ultimate challenges in the game, the sludge one, the dynamite one is actually easy, but the sludge one is the hardest Banjo-Kazooie series challenge, and requires a lot of retries until you can mentally map out your route to success. It's honestly an incredible piece of content, it's a 3D platformer collectathon, it shouldn't be a hot take that more stuff like this should be in more games. Spatial awareness, a timer, and easy retryability. Tooie has no lives, and you respawn right outside with plenty of ammo pickups.>It's really like an unfinished masterpieceI wouldn't go that far, but I've always felt it was missing one world. Informed by the fact there's ten less jiggies in the game, and that feels odd. 90 jiggies is not an even round number.
>>12874331It's literally unfinished, the devs even said so. The final level was cut, Bottles was cut, and the levels are lacking all the intended content. It's not even an exaggeration.
>>12874345Well if you say so, I believe you. I just couldn't gather than impression from playing through it a couple times, to the point I know it forwards and backwards.
>>12874387I played it back in the day as a lad and I actually remember getting a feeling of the game being uneven, rushed and not too polished, quite unlike BK. In a way I had to learn to like it, it is something of an acquired taste. But the more I return to it the more I enjoy it.
>>12874426I replayed BK recently and found I dont like any levels outside Treasure Trove Cove and Mad Monster Mansion.
>>12873719It's weird, because as bad as people claim Donkey Kong 64 is when it comes to having to switch characters and backtrack, at least DK64 is somewhat reasonable about providing you with tag barrels in places that make sense and aren't obscenely far out of the way.Tooie shits all over it and makes every time you need to split up as inconvenient as humanly possible. DK64 doesn't NEED "tag anywhere" in order to be a decent game, but Tooie desperately NEEDS "split up anywhere" just to make it tolerable.
Which other 3D game offers the interconnectivity of Tooie?ie enter world 7 through world 2 and world 3 through 6 with prerequisites in the hub world? (numbers are random)2D or Metroidvanias do NOT count
>Yet another thread complaining about TooieNow all we need is another thread complaining about DK64, why the Dreamcast/Gamecube flopped and crying about the absolute state of retro vidya prices. Such nuanced topics with fresh, original insights that have never been shared before.
>>12874472you only need to split up ONCE per level, you have to stay on the cock carousel in DK64 because each character keeps opening up a section for one other character
>>12874472The split up pads are always near where you need to split up, what are you even talking about?
>>12874472>It's weird, because as bad as people claim Donkey Kong 64 is when it comes to having to switch characters and backtrack, at least DK64 is somewhat reasonable about providing you with tag barrels in places that make sense and aren't obscenely far out of the way. It's a double-edged sword. On one hand it was extremely frustrating walking by a faded out banana, coin, blueprint, whatever and not being able to retrieve it because you didn't have the specific Kong out and about. Annoying as all hell. At the same time, often it's the case that these are trails designed to lead Kongs more easily to where they need to go to get some golden bananas and if you could just swap on the fly? You'd destroy the trail, ADHD distract on something else, and then be stuck wondering for hours on where to go to get some last little pick ups here or there.... it's a solution, but a damn annoying one.
I gave up on this game after I spent like 2 hours in terradactlyand and didnt get a single jiggie. and then I looked it up and almost every one requires doing shit in 3 other stages, or doing an insanely convoluted chain of transformations going back and forth 4 different times. absolutely nothing straightforward in this giant clusterfuck of a stage
>>12875130it's nowhere near that bad. but I do remember swimming around in Jolly Roger's Lagoon for a while with no idea how to find the last few jiggies.
>>12875130I was able to get every jiggy in that world when I was nine and I didn’t even use a guidebook
Should I get the faster swimming ability before doing Jolly Rogers Lagoon? It's kinda dumb that you need taxi pack for that which is learned in Terrydactyland.
>>12875453You dont need that. Just go to Spiral Mountain and free the fish under the boulder in front of your house
>>12875541Don't you have to carry him to the water?
>>12875543He's light enough to carry without it.
>>12875549Anon are you bamboozling me?
>>12875645No I promise. Just pick him up like any other collectible, toss him in the river and you've got fast swimming and more bubbles.
>>12875658Why did I remember that you needed to carry him in the backpack? Friggin' mandela effect man
>>12873719It's better than the first.
>>12875130>didn't get even 1 jiggy in TerrydactylandHoly shit have you tried idk maybe GIT GUD
