The Law System is... fun, actually.

Is the best GBA game. I think back then I did all missions except two.
>>
>>12873828
Cheap gimmick that doesn't make up for the inferior underlying systems and ruins the feel with its condescension.
>>
If there weren't a law system then you could just use the same 6 characters every battle which would make much p0arts of the job system pointless.
>>
>>12873861
>nooooo wtf do you mean i have to actually have a strategy?!!? what do you mean i can't just do the same thing with the same party until the game gets stale?!
>>
>>12873828
I thought everyone agreed that the Law system was good.
People don't like it? It makes the gameplay more interesting.
>>

much better than cringe leftoid communist political commentary that FFT was
>>

Only stupid contrarians on a 4chan video game board would say something like that.

You complete idiots also defend unlimited saga.
>>

You didn't even read the post, just vaguely detected a contrary opinion and kneejerk replied with a generic boilerplate shitpost. Typical FFTA tard.

Not to mention the fact the story is awful. Why would you fight a war against the kid that got bullied in his isekai world?

Are you a high school bully?
>>
I fucking hated Final Fantasy Tactics because it was a piece of shit with convoluted RPG mechanics and zero actual strategy. Is Advance any better? I see it wasn't directed by the same retard.
>>
>>12873914
> Is Advance any better?

No. It's a GBA game, the era and platform where everyone was like "just throw in CONTENT and more CONTENT and THINGS and THINGS TO DO instead of designing anything well!", and the best part is that the game's story dares to throw in a morale that literally is "Overdoing playing video games is bad!" while at the same time having never-ending sidequests that repeat over and over.

So no, if you didn't like FFT because of those reasons, you'll hate FFTA.
>>
>>12873914
it's literally the same fucking thing but now you have judge buzzkill randomly tying your hands every battle
>>
>>12873914
>zero actual strategy
It's a tactics game not a strategy game.
>>
>>12873828
No it's not. It's the main reason I haven't replayed the game. It just adds tedium to the game constantly having to adjust your party.
>>
>>12873904
>>12873906
you can pretend i'm illiterate all you want, it won't make you any less wrong.
>>
>>12874037
FFT isn't a commie story and FFT doesn't need a gimmick law system to provoke the player to favor different strategies and tactical decisions. Because FFT has superior systems and content design.

Now take your meds.
>>
>>12873828
law system is hardly a problem, unless you're a press x to win idiot. beside it can cripple the enemies too, and this is quite sweet.
>>
>>12873907
Yes. Little cripple nerd needs to come back to reality instead of power tripping little freak Marche did nothing wrong.
>>
>>12873914
It was made by some tactics ogre devs. The level system and the way you learn skills is very different and theres no perma death outside of one or two maps.
I liked it as a kid.
>>
>>12873828
The international laws were easier compared to the JP ones, especially the bullshit that forbade dealing more than a specific amount of damage.

That's the point though. The bullied kid, Marche's wheelchair bound brother and the girl embarassed about her looks all wanted to stay in the fantasy world - but it's a fantasy world, not their home. They're just running away from their struggles.

If that's how it needs to be...
But luckily when they're back in the real world they all have each other's backs and are happier/more hopefuly for the future and stuff.
Though really I'd probably want to stay in awesome magic fantasy land where I am rich as fuck, have my own powerful guild and am surrounded by hot brown bunny girls, anyways. Fuck the message.
>>
>>12874075
A bit into the game you even unlock law cards to nullify/enact your own laws, letting you freely wreak havoc by gimping the enemy team or letting the judge approve of your actions for judge points to do combos/totemas
People seem to forget there are good laws that reward you for doing certain things and you can slap on or remove both good and bad laws when you need it
And also that you can see what laws are in effect before choosing a party to deploy so unless you've literally got the same 5 people... in a game with a bunch of unique units, and jobs split across races, where you're gonna want 2-3 of each race to do their thing, you really shouldn't struggle from it, it's part of the fun and encourages diversity in your strategies
>>
The sequel made it so that you are rewarded for upholding the law but nothing happens if you break it. It was infinitely more fun.

You are insane. It barely changes anything as long as you aren't a complete idiot.

>>12873903
Insane. Laws barely matter. This game gives you huge piles of overpowered abilities; being barred from using a few of them at a time means very little. There's nothing contrarian about having a bit of fun with it.

>>12873914
If you want "actual strategy" more than anything else then FFTA will be bad for you. It's an excessively easy game. It excels in charm and polish and fun abilities and audiovisual beauty. The main plotline of the story sucks but the characters and dialogue are cute and charming. There's a lot to love in it but if you aren't won over by its good points then you'll find it to be a mindless repetitive slog.

>>12874228
They are right to want to stay in the superior world, except for Mewt who is going off the deep end and clearly needs help no matter what world he is in. Marche is right to try to save Mewt from his unhealthy fantasy life but wrong to try to force the rest of them back to reality. This is because the people who wrote the game (or maybe the translators for all I know) did not do a good job. Like come on what kind of a retard thought Ritz's motivation for leaving the real world made sense, especially when contrasted with Doned's. It's just stupid nonsense and they should have put a little more thought into it if they were gonna make you spend so much time reading cutscenes.

The law system is stupid. You just bypass it by wasting a day at best. At worst the fact that these are "laws" and that they capriciously change by the day with little rhyme or reason makes for asking the important question why all these fighting warriors haven't banded together already to deal with the tyrant making these petty edicts already?

I mean if you actually wanted to make a cool narrative for FFTA? Instead of doing a stupid NPC's homework for a quest, you could instead go on a quest to gather support to slay the king.
>>
>>12876945
Nta but I would have 2 of each race and make some distinct arch types, like human melee and human mage and so on and then try to rotate them so that I would have semi balanced party of both physical and mage units for each battle

>>
It was a bit scuffed at times. The only laws I don't like are ones that lock out classes that only use one weapon type, like Fighter/Gunner/Hunter etc. All it led to was wasting time swapping a character's class and re-equipping them. On the flip side, things like Elementalists' non-holy healing spells made you feel big-brain for using them to get around laws. I think they'd have done better to use them more intentionally to design encounters that required out-of-the-box thinking, rather than as a kind of filter over standard encounters.

Semi-related but I wish they'd properly orchestrate the OST sometime. The map theme is an absolute banger.

Law system isn't so a problem in that it makes the game more difficult. It's a red flag in that, when you encounter something that gay and retarded, a discerning player will think to himself "would game devs who thought this was a good idea deliver a game that is worth my time to play?"

Enemy units cannot get red cards. Ever.

>>12877914
They can, their AI will just never allow themselves to break the law, unless they are the enemy leader, who has a special ribbon that makes them immune to red cards.

Alright guys here's what happened.

Final Fantasy has always been called Final Fantasy, not because Square thought it would be their last game and was a surprise hit, like they always said, but because they liked Neverending Story. It was actually a big hit in Japan. Both the book, and the movie.

Final Fantasy has always been based on Neverending Story. But they never really tried to adapt the story at all, until FFTA.

There's a reason the messages in FFTA are so clumsy. To avoid being a 1:1 ripoff they had to take out things that cause the story to make sense.
In the first half of the book, Bastian is just reading the story, following Atreyu's journey. Once the childlike empress is met, and given the name Moonchild, Bastian is given AURYN and enters fantastica/fanatasia.
From there, it's a slow descent into power-corruption and memory loss, starting with the least convenient memories. He doesn't remember being bullies, or having bullies. It happens slowly. Not as soon as he gets there.

What Bastian discovers way later, is that if he runs out of wishes, is that he'd become a new member of a city he finds, which is composed of all the other people in history who have read the book, got AURYN, and either ran out of wishes, or tried to wish themselves empress/emperor. He'd be a demented fool who couldn't remember further than the last 10 seconds.
That is the reason that you couldn't stay in the fantasy world for too long. Humans turn into mental mush. They spend a very long time setting it up, and it makes perfect sense when you find this city.

In FFTA, there's no such ticking clock. Marche just moralizes about escapism, something that wasn't even part of his character earlier on. He just sorta says it. And there's nothing in the nature of the story that makes him right. The people who say Marche is right, are wrong. With the book they found, everyone gets to be whatever they want, and live there as normal forever, as far as anyone knows.
>>
>>12877930
>They can
No they can't, I set a law to make it so that a unit could do nothing but break the law over and over.

Yellow card, yellow card, yellow card, yellow card, yellow card. I kept going and going. And going. It never fucking happened.
You lie.
>>
>>12877934
Thats funny, a gang from the jagds with their monster/person hybrid teams had their eye thingy use roulete to kill a monster with damage to monsters being illegal and not only did the monster die, the eye thing went to jail too.
Maybe it's only monsters that can go to jail.
>>
>>12877934
They absolutely can.
>>

https://i.4cdn.org/wsg/1792002467219143.mp4
>>
>>12877934
I haven't played this in ages, but there is a class, Animist, I think that can give you control of enemies and force them to make illegal moves getting them ejected from the battle. I specifically remember this because it was so satisfying.
>>
>>12878234
That may in fact work, because it's technically YOU that's being punished.

But I distinctly remember, if the enemy did it, they were never ejected.
>>
>>12877931
Why didn’t he just wish for more wishes?
>>
>>12878270
Because that's tantamount to wishing for more memories, wishes cost a memory.
If there was ever a good power balance for wishes, it's probably that.
>>
>>12878276
>What Bastian discovers way later

So moonchild didn’t even tell him this would happen? Or did she not know either? Surely she knew of the city full of people with amnesia in her realm.
>>
>>12878280
>So moonchild didn’t even tell him this would happen?
No, she doesn't.
And why she doesn't is up for debate.

You are getting your enemy ejected from the field of play. It is a creative way to defeat your enemy. There is no penalty to the player for using this strategy.

>But I just want to push A to win.
There are plenty of games like that, even within the FF series.
