Giving hints and guides was never a way in which it was VERY good, although it did do those things to a significant extent. The main function of Nintendo Power is to serve as a friendly consumer's guide to Nintendo's portion of the video games market during the years in which it was active; it was best used back then as a source of Nintendo-focused gaming news, not as a source of information about how to play games. It is best used now as a quirky guide to Nintendo's history from the perspective of a North American player. Your idea would not work well; it would work much better (though still not ideally) with GameFAQs guides.
