What are the best video games from before the 1980's? That would include a lot of arcade games, a lot of games for the Magnavox Odyssey systems, the first three years of the Atari 2600, the Commodore PET, and the Apple II, the Coleco Telstar, some early watch/calculator games (the Unit Data Time Monte Carlo, for example), some early MUDs, lots of text-based/multi-user games for mainframes and institutional computers, various computer-assisted hybrid board games, etc.

If your game isn't turning (at least) 50 this decade, I'm not interested.

Some professor guy wrote an over 200 page book about Breakout, so it must be good.
>>
obvious ones:
Space Invaders
The Oregon Trail
Asteroids
Galaxian
Pong
Breakout / Super Breakout
Combat

some other ones I find fun:
Lunar Lander
Sheriff
Circus
Night Driver
Superman
Steeplechase
Atari Football
Death Race

Wish there was a place where I could play the old discrete logic cabinets like Computer Space, Space Race, Outlaw, Clean Sweep, Gotcha, or Sega's Heavyweight Champ which is thought to be permanently lost

So the Sears VACS was just a re-badged Atari 2600? This is what they were selling in their 1979 catalog:

There was a guy on YouTube that was at some arcade showing off a bunch of original Sega cabs. One was the rare Heavyweight Champ, then had a lot of Atari originals like Gunslinger. I wish I could remember the name or Arcade he was showing. But I haven’t seen or thought about it for a long time. Your post reminded me of it.

earliest videogame i've found enjoyable is berzerk, but that's 1980

Yes, Sears policy at the time everything had to be branded as Sears. They Also had a "Super" Arcade for Intellivision

I think I remember this in Friday the 13th Part II

I pretty consistently see/play Computer Space at conventions that have an arcade museum type set up. If you are on the east coast US, the long Island retro game con does a huge museum section every year and they have a Computer space cab up for play.

Lunar Lander, I got addicted to this for over an hour. Home consoles couldn't replicated anything like this in the 80's at all, Amiga probably could but I don't think it ever did.

Who did it better, /vr/? Mattel, or Coleco?

>>12877072
It's surprisingly tough, and has a lot of replay value.

The earlier Scott Adams text adventures are good, up through Pyramid of Doom or Ghost Town.
