Everyone seems to focus on retro PC but what about the early days of Modern Mac OS and Linux? What was gaming like on the alternative computer platforms that existed in the post Micro age?
The first "golden age" of Linux gaming was in the early 2000s. Linux received a bunch of fairly popular PC games. This coincided with Microsoft focusing on the Xbox and 360 while trying to destroy PC gaming. Im not sure why Linux gaming fizzled out exactly, it wasnt really revived until Windows 10 came out and Valve/Steam made their first big push into Linux gaming. A lot of these have issues running on modern Linux, you're unironically better off with Wine. There was also a movement at the same time of using GPU pass through in order to run Windows games through a virtual machine. Usually Arch+QEMU.
>>12877769>Im not sure why Linux gaming fizzled out exactlyBecause linuxfags were an underwhelming minority outside of absolute nerds, and windows didn't become shit enough for people to jump ship, not to mention Linux's software ecosystem was considerably poor until recently. Now with most shit that matters having a linux version or running good in wine/Proton and windows becoming irredeemably shit, more people are taking the linux pill, thanks to distros becoming easier.
>>12877729Mostly ports for Apple from the late 90s on. It mostly became stuff like picrel. Most recommendations tend to end around the mid 90s for that reason.
why does linux penguin hate nintendo? that's fucked up
As someone from europe, I can't think of more uninteresting personal computers than apple ones.
