Every chinese cartridge ever: the picture
>>
>>12878741
Weirdly none of my Chinese cartridges have Door Door
Also, I'm wondering why even the most advanced ones omit the FDS games that got ported to NES like Kid Icarus and Metroid. I know they have access to US ROMs, a lot of games on those carts are the US versions or even only released in the US like Felix the Cat. And they're just UNROM or MMC1, and the more advanced multicarts have MMC3 capability.
>>
>>12878740
why so many repeats?
>>
>>12878745
>Door Door
I have an early 2000s one that had it.
It was a weird selection of early games and mid 90s ROM hacks.
>>
>>12878747
They're all distinctive games, though the DK Jr/Popeye educational games look similar to the originals, and Championship Lode Runner is basically a kaizo level pack for the original Lode Runner.
>>
>>12878745
As for the availability of converted FDS titles maybe they avoid them for some overly technical reason or just because maybe they weight too much...
>>
>>12878740
I always thought it was odd that Dig Dug didn't get a western NES release
>>
>>12878758
Namco didn't publish in the US so it was up to other publishers to decide what to license from them. It's kinda weird Bandai went with Xevious over Dig Dug though, Xevious has never been nearly as popular as Dig Dug in the US
>>
>>12878740
I have played surprisingly few of these. I know the names of a bunch of them at least.

onyanko town mentioned

great fucking game. buggy as shit and the fish monger is OP but its so addictive
>>
>>12878761
Try Lode Runner and Wrecking Crew, those old puzzle platformers are really fun and surprisingly meaty. Lode Runner has 50 levels and Wrecking Crew has 100, and both have level selects so you can pick up where you left off.
I also thought The Portopia Serial Murder Case was a fun time but your mileage may vary if you're not enthralled by the historical significance of it all
>>
>>12878740
I've heard it said that SMB1 basically maxed out the base Famicom/NES hardware, with anything more complex requiring a mapper. How true is that?
>>
>>12878776
Modern programmers can make things more complex on NROM but back then yes that's true. The FDS was created to surpass the Famicom's shortcomings, but after Ghosts 'n' Goblins, mapper chips in carts became commonplace.
>>
Am I the only one who doesn't like Door Door?
It just plays so slow.
>>
>>12878784

Interesting. Got any examples?

If it was faster I would have got rekt even more often + it matches the aesthetics
>>
>>12878793
Looks pretty cool for what it is. Might check it out later.
>>
>>12878740
I have beaten close to 380 NES/FC games and out of those I've only played/beaten 9 or 10

I did start playing Wrecking Crew the other day but so far I'm already stuck at level 15 or something where a bunch of enemies drop down next and keep climbing a ladder continuously

People usually associate strides in graphics with improvements in hardware, but I find it interesting how the craft of pixel art developed over the course of the Famicom's life span. None of the games here have borders in their sprites. Artists seemed to prioritize making things the "correct" color, rather than use color palettes conducive to shading. I find it interesting how the style in these older games has essentially completely died out. You don't see NES inspired games with sprites that look like this. Even NROM homebrew games like >>12878793 use more "sophisticated" spriting techniques.
>>
>>12878798
That's true, I just dislike since it looks like it's just barely holding together.
>>
>>12878889
Black outlines became a thing very shortly after these 100. Circus Charlie was early march 86 and then later that month Spy VS Spy has full outlines; but it didn't become a full standard until everyone started using palettes differently, that is to say to use at the same time 2 different palette slots for the same object (so you can have more than 3 colours + black on a single character) rather than sticking to the "1 object = 1 three colours+transparency palette" basic formula.

It's hard to pinpoint who did this first but it's certainly not Mega Man even though they liked to pretend in interviews that this was some sort of novel thing they came up with (when they say "Mega Man was made of 2 sprites" it's a laymen term bastardization of this technique, there is nothing special about objects being made of several sprites, every NES game did that, the special thing is that they use 2 palettes per object) for instance Namco's FC port of Metro Cross did this 1 full year before Mega Man and shortly after even as far as Capcom is concerned Trojan also did it.
Trojan gets a lot of shit but it and Metro Cross might be the first NES/FC game that uses all the "modern" graphical tricks; but it was a gradual evolution for instance if you compare it to Castlevania, CV used outline but didn't go past 1 palette per character which is why Simon has a brown outline.

I want to play a lot of these but I can't be fucked playing japanese games in furigana only
>>
>>12879170
just play the translations then
>>
>>12878745
I remember playing Door Door but yeah, it was not super common or good.
>>
>>12879170
A lot of these titles are very simple arcade-style games. You don't need to know Japanese to play them.
>>
>>12878740
probably only around 10 there that I'd still consider playing today, not to say they're all bad

>>12880125
No I did this shit myself in MS Paint and it was annoying since I had to find 256x240 images and most NES screenshots are 256x224 because of European fags I guess
>>
>>12878747
>>12880125
Also can you inbreds actually point to what games you think are repeats
>>
>>12880128
>most NES screenshots are 256x224 because of European fags I guess
That's the internal resolution.
>>
>>12880153
>256x240 is the internal resolution.
No it's not.

It's a pretty good lineup when you don't have a bitch in your ear telling you how bad the black box Famicom games are.

>>12880131
The two mahjong games are "repeats", also a bunch of these look like the same game to the untrained eye (I initially thought what was next to Bomberman on the last row was another Bomberman game).
>>
>>12880128
For future reference, you can assemble collages like this instantly with FFmpeg. If you need the screenshots to be in a specific resolution, it's generally faster to take your own screenshots than to try to hunt down ones from the internet.
>>
File: NES screen.png (65 KB, 256x240)
65 KB PNG
>>12880159
The actual resolution of the games is 256x224, all raw screenshots should be in that size.
>>
>>12880190
Are you stupid? Look at the resolution of the image you posted.
>>
>>12880193
Look at what it's trying to explain to you.
>>
>>12880190
It's not, most NES games do actually draw something in that outer "danger zone". All that image is conveying is that TVs of the time would've hidden what's drawn on that area due to overscan, so developers were advised to be careful not to put anything important like score/lives indicators/etc there. SNES games, on the other hand, almost never draw anything there, so it's fair game to say those were indeed 256x224.
>>
>>12880195
I know what overscan is. It has no impact on internal resolution. Internal resolution refers to the image before being processed by the display. That's the entire point of distinguishing "internal resolution" from "resolution."
>>
>>12879170
Yeah I can't stand kana soup either. It's a bit of a conflict since I'd rather play the earlier versions of something like the FF games but some of the later versions like the pixel remaster have actual kanji in them whereas with the NES and SNES versions it's a gamble
>>
the argument a couple posts above this one is literally the most autistic thing that has ever happened anywhere in the entire universe up til now

I count 16.
>Donkey Kong
>Mario Bros.
>Lode Runner
>Pac-Man
>Mappy
>Excitebike
>Balloon Fight
>Galaga
>Dig Dug
>Flappy
>Wrecking Crew
>Battle City
>Super Mario Bros.
>Binary Land
>Bomberman
>Twinbee
Two more if you wanna stretch it:
>Clu Clu Land
>Astro Robo SASA
>>
>>12880128
>and most NES screenshots are 256x224 because of European fags

I don't know how you'd come up with that conclusion because it's the contrary that happened, PAL NESes actually displayed overscan that NTSC didn't. For instance the garbage data at the bottom of the screen in Double Dragon 2 that devs didn't care for because it's part of the overscan? You can see that in the PAL version.

The reason why a lot of NES screenshots use 256*224 is because that's what old emulator outputted (unless set to PAL in which case it was *240) and if you tried posting a *240 screenshot some retard would always """correct""" you in saying that should be *224 like the one that answered to you. This habit of "the way it was on MY CRT is the only objectively correct thing even though it was different with other people's CRTs" still persists today with filterfags

Anyway you should use your own screenshots for these things especially for NES because you'll never know what palette people used so you could end up with 50 different palettes on the same collage. Me, I use a variant of FCEUX' palette just to piss off the retards that screech about the """official""" NTSC-U palette.

>>12878764
Got em!! OP BTFO
>>
>>12880790
What the fuck are you talking about
>>
>>12880398
You have very narrow taste, and even then you should at the VERY least include Kung Fu, Yie Air Kungfu and Goonies
>>
>>12881021
we should start saying that to random posts replying to op, it would be a great meme
>>
>>12881031
I don't understand why Goonies is seen as such a Famicom hidden gem/must-import game. I played it and it's just fine.
>>
>>12878740
>>12879473
Out of these, I own:
>Mario Bros.
>Nuts & Milk
>Lode Runner
>Pac-Man
>Mappy
>Balloon Fight
>Flappy
>Wrecking Crew
>Super Mario Bros.
So only 9 I decided were good enough to own. Might pick up Battle City later, but it's more expensive than other pre-1987 games at $30 and that one romhack of it Tank 1990 exists on basically every pirate multicart
>>
>>12881470
Wait actually I also own Clu Clu Land so that's 10
>>
>>12878740
>100 games
>9x10 grid

Is everyone just retarded on this board
>>

neato bonito, can you do the rest?
>>
>>12882701
I could do the last 100
>>
>>12882703
do so.
>>
>>12878764
I just played some of this on a Chinese cart
There's definitely a game here, I can see the fun in it. It's a great concept, I just wonder why they made the music loop so shitty and ear-grating. The slowdown/glitchiness is more understandable but the music is a real head-scratcher.
>>
>>12882703
The question is, include the re-releases of Zelda/Castlevania etc or not?

Also, the last 100 Famicom games would be missing the last NES games
