I guess it's more combat oriented than the other two Fallouts considering the ''tactic'' in the title?

it's more linear though there is a map to explore. but you really only want to explore the map to unlock some easter eggs, which can give you some nicer weapons. or just to grind some random enemies for XP.

each map can also take a rather long time to beat. compare to "normal" RTS games anyways.
you can choose to play it in realtime or turnbased. probably better with turnbased since the "AI" tends to shoot you in the back or waste a lot of ammo with autofire.

>newbie hint: probably best to play as a high Charisma MC(i forgot how high it has to be), as you can get a trait that gives you free stat points, and you unlock stronger party members earlier with high charisma.

I like the graphics a lot, I wish someone could build a single player character focused traditional Fallout RPG with the engine. Like Fallout 1 or 2 but with these assets and engine. I know a lot of mods for Fallout 1 and 2 rip shit from it but still

i dunno. play Wasteland 2. if that counts as /vr/

I have but it doesn't look like FF Tactics.

Jagged Alliance would be closer I feel like.

*FO Tactics

It's completely combat-oriented, they got rid of almost every roleplaying skill.
I don't recommend this, though. Later maps are very long and you'll be fighting the same fucking robots for at least half of the game. I'll try to find here my writeup I did back in 2019 (probably still in the archives).

One of those games (for me) that really wanted and meant to be shit but at the same time had something special in them that kept me playing, at least for a while.

There was this bug/exploit, dunno if they removed it in a fanpatch or something, regarding Gambling.
If you placed a seller's inventory in his/her prize pool, and nothing in yours, then clicked Gamble something like 300 times, it would eventually give you the entire stash. Apparently, the code saw '0' as a valid figure for item value, so it would roll Gambling skill for it.

It'll definitely be on desuarchive, just try to remember a specific phrase or words you used in it, that's how I always find my old posts.

Its basically Jagged Alliance in Fallout, pretty good if you're into that sort of thing. Also the midwest brotherhood power armor is cool.

The multiplayer is fun, though janky and unbalanced. Single player is very boring. The AI either bumrushes you or sits in one place and shoots, so the "tactics" are very limited.
>>
There's an early mission with some pretty nasty laser turrets that made a lot of people drop it back in the day. There's a few different ways to cheese them though. My main issue was just how fucking long the missions drag. They're fun up to a certain point, then you just want it over with.

Here's the writeup I did back then.

Ah, Fallout Tactics. I've put a good 70 hours into this game, so let me tell it to you straight.

The game is divided into arcs, like a tv show. Each arc you fight an enemy faction. Once their arc is over, they disappear from the world (except random encounters). It goes like this:
Raiders > Beastlords > Super Mutants > Reavers > Robots. Each arc is 2~4 missions long, except the final arc, there's a lot of missions in there.

You should definitely invest in energy weapons, because small guns, melee weapons and unarmed does negligible damage to robots. Big guns do more damage, but if they're explosive, the explosion itself does 50% less damage (I think). You should keep in mind that even if they're not that useful, you should definitely bring big guns, because there are some giant robots that will take too long to kill with energy weapons.
Like people above said, the game overstays its welcome once it reaches the Robots arc, since it'll be the only thing you fight. And they're not very well balanced - you start fighting some melee robots, then it's straight to .50 cal, missile and whatever energy rifle they have. There's no progression. You kill a few easily at first, but from them on, be very careful about poking your head out of a corner.

About getting energy weapons, it's not that hard to start a stock. The Reavers (arc before Robots) have a whole lot of them, and once you start to capture weapons, they also start to appear in your base.

One stage before the end, you'll need to bring someone with Science 90 to open the door to the base.

You'll find a few Power Armors in the game, and the first one is hidden inside some kind of slum (a bunch of shacks on top of each other, it'll be obvious when you get there).

When you get your fist Power Armor, you'll realize, like in previous Fallouts, that any small guns fire on them is almost completely useless. There's a mission later on where you go to a bar/hotel with a bunch of Raiders inside, and you can literally run to a guy's face, being shot at by his 10 friends, and not get even 5 points of damage. That's how good PA is.

I remembered, small guns aren't entirely useless against robots. I recall there are two Pancor Jackhammers (automatic shotgun) in the game, and you can find Pulse Slugs for them, which work very well against robots.

I guess that was all. This game was barely finished - you can see the map numbers inside the game folder skip a lot (like, from 14 to 19), meaning they probably couldn't finish those maps on time. The Beastlord and Reaver arcs end kind of abruptly, only the Super Mutant arc has some closure. You'll also realize that real-time mode is busted, and you can massacre dozens of enemies by some clever positioning of units.
