I love the Playstation 2, too bad it was an absolute failure because of the rampant piracy issues it went through its entire life... piracy can really kill a console.
>>12881395yeah. it should have outsold the dreamcast. shame about those damn pirates though. aaarrrgghhhh!
And then you see the N64 and the Gamecube, absolute winners of their generation because of no piracy
>>12881514Not true.
>>12881514
This is now a retro piracy jank thread
>>12881514>no one pirated GC gamesHey zoomie, this way to >>>/v/
Piracy Killed The Dreamcast
Low effort bait thread. OP's public execution NOW!
>>12881710We pirated on everything. Your forced meme is dead.
We even pirated on the fucking N-Gage. It definitely wasn't piracy that killed that abortion.
>>12881395Piracy wasn't widespread on the PS2. So many greatest hits titles, due to the original copies selling out like hot cakes. I love the massive success the PS2 has been.
>>12881607I did that one exploit for PS1 in which you put a thumbtack inside the hole to trick the console into thinking the lid is closed, then had to switch the discs, like >>12881706 but for PS1 fat
>>12881710Sadly, this. But so did the DVD drive kek.
>>12881710Agreed. That's the line they fear because they don't want to take responsibility or blame for killing the Dreamcast. They brag about back-ups, but they never paid a cent. Funny how their free collection matched Sega's descent.
This wasn't a thread about Dreamcast. Attempt to force your unfunny meme somewhere else.
>>12881785It's only unfunny to piratefags like you because you know it's the truth. Piracy Killed The Dreamcast. You brag about back-ups, but you never paid a cent. Funny how your free collection matched Sega's descent.
>>12881830It's not true and you couldn't even explain how to burn a disc. You never owned a Dreamcast. Last time we had this argument you embarrassed yourself saying multiple incorrect things about the console. You are Fandom wiki editor tier.
Fuck the dreamcast, I'm glad I helped killing it despite only playing its roms like 30 years after its release
>>12881837>makes up a fake scenario that never occuredSo desperate to spin a narrative. Only problem is we never had this argument. Piracy Killed The Dreamcast.
>>12881859Sega Swirl. Lmao.
>>12881854>30 yearsIt hasn't been 30 years, zoomer. Year 2 years off it's Japan release date and 3 years off it's American release date. Thank you for proving you're underage.
This fucking retard tried to claim you could put GD-ROMs into any normal CD-ROM drive and dump the contents. Anybody who ever held a retail GD-ROM in their hand and attempted to do so knows what happens when you do that. He's a complete poser. He's a zoomer who became obsessed with Sega and now pretends to be a fan retroactively fighting for their honor even though he doesn't know Sega consoles from his asshole.
Boring-ass thread. I'm brapping it, with no survivors.*BRRRRRRAAAAPPPPPPPPPP*
Floigan Bros killed the Dreamcast
>>12881837>You are Fandom wiki editor tier.seethe you jeet (or vatnik)piracy and ps2 killed the dreamcast
>>12881935Piracy had nothing to do with it. Neither did Sony. Sega ran out of money. Millions of GD-ROMs sold wouldn't have fixed it. Sega and bad decisions made in the previous two generations killed the Dreamcast. I'm the one writing in plain English and you can only write in meme speak so I'll need a hand check before we continue with the racial terms. If your IQ is as low as your posts suggests and you are a white man you must be mentally impaired lmao.
Hey everybody I'm a zoomer and I'm going to make shit up about the history of gaming on the internet. Haha this makes me feel so powerful. It's like the little fantasies in my head are real because the words I write are appearing on the screens of others. Maybe if I spam what is coming out of my imagination enough it will get picked up in AI training data and 30 years from now people will really believe it. Until then I'll just insult anybody who interrupts me playing pretend until they go away. It's easy to do this when you have no job or life.
>>12881395It had nowhere near the piracy issues the Dreamcast did, you dishonest poster you. There was never a point where you could just stick a burned DVD-R into an unmodified PS2 and it would boot the game.
>>12881950You can do that now.
>>12881950Yes there was: >>12881607
You weren't there. No amount of larping will ever convince us. We don't respect you. You are a fraud.

>>12881395shit thread deserves shit slop
>>12881607That's not an unmodded console, you retard. That guy is doing a variation of the credit card/knife swap. Unmodded = you put the disc in exactly like a retail disc and it just boots normally. You shouldn't have to break off the fucking disc tray door.
>>12881959It's only shit to you because you got your feelings hurt in it lmao. I'm going to keep hammering you so you spam this even harder until people get sick of it. Your nervous tic will be repeated endlessly like a kid with tourettes saying nigger at his inner city school.>>12881960It didn't need to be opened. A mod chip did not need to be placed in it. It's unmodified. Your definition is like your idea about what killed the dreamcast: headcanon.
in case it wasn't clear the first time
>gets baited into this thread>dances like the puppet he is>thinks he's trolling>gets repeatedly trolled>nobody else cares>threat contained
Sega killed the Dreamcast.
Say the line Bart
>>12881962Breaking off the disc tray door is definitely a modification.
>>12881979You could also call putting tape over a disc tray sensor that but people would laugh at your pedantry. Like I am doing right now.
>>12881974kek
I'm a professional modder now!
Piracy killed the SNES
>>12881980Yes, that's a mod. You have to take apart the console to do it. >>12881983Yes, that's a mod, and you have to do more than just stick the paper clip in, there's a whole software process to it.
Piracy killed my parents and I’ve trained in the way of the blade ever since so I can take revenge
>>12881991Those things cost $300 and the one you posted is a very late stage model of SNES copier.
>>12882001Pfft everyone I know had one in June of 1994
>>12881514Correct. It was hard to pirate either console. >>12881950Also correct. PS2 required modchips for piracy and it was very niche.>>12881940No, he's correct. Piracy Killed The Dreamcast. Defending piracy isn't going to change the fact that piracy helped murder the Dreamcast in cold blood.
>>12881996So if software must be modified than it's a mod? Then let's define Dreamcast piracy using your headcanon. An unmodified GD-ROM dump will not boot on a stock Dreamcast console. It must be modified to fit the MIL-CD spec. If the game is larger than 700MB the contents of the disc must be modified before it can be burned. So I must modify Dreamcast software to make it read on my unmodified console. Therefore it is a mod. Checkmate atheist.
>>12881991Those things were extremely niche, expensive and hard to find.
>>12882015Nah I had one in June of 1994 and so did every kid in my neighborhood. Piracy killed my dog too.
>>12882015Not as hard to find as you think. Also expensive compared to as many games as you would be buying otherwise? That has always been a part of piracy. Just like acquiring a CD burner in the years 1999-2000. It wasn't a universal thing everyone had. I didn't get mine until 2002. Then I burned lots of Dreamcast games because of course I did.
Also I only had a Dreamcast because it was $20 at Funcoland. You weren't there.
My first CD burner was an external USB one. My Dell computer only had USB 1.1 and it took like an hour to burn one disc. It had a loud ass fan that sounded worse than a Dreamcast trying to play ECHELON's release of Skies Of Arcadia.
Piracy killed the DS. Poor Nintendo. They never had a chance.
>>12882058DS and PSP... damn that was the golden era of portables.Literally my DS-i came with a R4 and my PSP came with this firmware thing, I didn't even had to anything and I already had two of the best handheld libraries at my hands.Of course such rampant piracy caused both consoles to be massive failures and were discounted in just 2 years...
I also must say. Given the time period you would actually do such things in... ESR patching, burning, and booting a game from a disc on an unmodified PS2 with FreeMcBoot or whatever you used was a lot easier than burning a Dreamcast game using the intended software before later on when other software supported it.
Also those non self boot games that were bin and cue. A lot of the time they just didn't fucking work. Even with the Utopia boot disc.
>>12882013Users didn't have to do that part, they would just download the premade disc image. You're a disingenuous shitposter. Piracy did, in fact, kill the Dreamcast btw.
>>12882058False equivalent. You can't burn an R4 for a $1 and sell it to someone for $5.
>>12882216It's still modified. It's a mod. See I can do pedantry too. It makes you mad when the only trick you have gets turned back on you. It's really funny.
>>12882234ESL babble. I can tell you live in a third world country where you could buy both Dreamcast games on CD-Rs and a R4 with a SD card loaded with games in physical shops. You probably looked at the modded ps2s and xboxes in awe wishing your poor ass parents would buy you one but it was never going to happen. You can't even afford them now.
>>12882017If they were so common, why can't I buy one for $30 on eBay?>>12882021Weird because I bought and installed my CD-burner for $140 in 1999. Which is like buying a Dreamcast for $59 less than the original price and that was before I bought a Dreamcast. Easy to buy. CD-Burners became common by 2000, where piracy was at an all time high with music(and Dreamcast obviously). Napster was huge in 2000.>>12882216Well said.
>>12882294$140 isn't so cheap that everyone had one. You can back up your ESL boyfriend and act like everyone was downloading KALISTO releases on their 56k modem but you're still full of shit.
People always talk about the year 2000 like it was 2010. I blame frutiger aero zoomers.
>>12882306Oh it is definitely cheap. Just because you couldn't afford it, doesn't mean I couldn't. Plus I made my money back by selling music CD's for $5 each. Stay triggered poorfag.
>>12882348Damn dude. You were the king of El Salvador back then.
>>12882348Well that's the thing anon. You think your shitty little operation is enough to kill the music industry. But they didn't get fucked until we all had broadband internet, cd burners, and iPods. Likewise a few turbo nerds who read a tutorial and figured out how to use a cracked copy of Padus DiscJuggler did not kill the Dreamcast. But long nights spent playing those burned games did kill my Dreamcast. It sounded like a goddamned fax machine.
>>12882234>and sell it to someone for $5 This is legit poorfag favela shit.
>>12882294Should’ve been there in June of 94. They were practically raining from the sky.
>>12881395At least I got the joke OP. Good one kek.
>>12881710yep, and so did sega>>12881976this
>>12882365>El SalvadorNever heard of it.>>12882373Selling CD-R copies of music did cause rappers like ICP to take huge damage with their double album Bizaar/Bizzar, selling significantly less than both The Amazing Jackel Brothers and The Great Milenko. I laughed my ass off when that happen since I was an Eminem fan at the time. And unlike you, pirates used Utopia Boot Disc back in 2000. DiscJuggler didn't exist at the time. Using CD-R's will cause your Dreamcast to die since it stresses the laser reader. Anyone with a brain knows that. Luckily no CD-R touched my Dreamcast and still reads discs to this very day.
>>12882449>I laughed my ass off when that happenSaar
>>12882449ICP shit was always small time. The people that liked it were still going to go to the gathering if they didn't buy it. They got rich without massive sales. The music could be terrible even if the Mike E. Clark production was interesting and they would still have their following. Rap was still selling for a few years even with all the bootlegging and mixtapes canibalizing album sales. But it got to the point where 100k was considered a good number.
>>12881607holy fucking sovl. i had some gameshark clone that boots burnt ps1 cds and the sd media launcher on gamecube that boots homebrew
>>12881607is this worth doing for ps1 cds or should i stick with popstarter
>>12881764>PS2That's clearly a 2SD.
>>12882517If your console can use mechapwn do that. Otherwise look into getting a modbo put in even if you need to use some mail in service. Don't fuck up your console.
>>12882381Happened in every American highschool in the year 2002.
>>12881706>>12881607These webms are pure bliss. Thanks.
>>12881710Nigga please
>>12882840That’s the year I graduated and I never saw it. That sounds like white trash or Mexican shit.
>>12882840It’s high school, two words.
>>12881395Sony gaming departments have been losing money for most of their lifetimes, but the rest of the company makes enough profit that it's not an issue. In fact their gaming department also boosts sales of other departments (TVs, CD/DVD sales, disc production income, online payments), so it all balances out.Sega had nothing beyond games, so once those got pirated they were fucked.
>>12883305The Dreamcast stumbled out of the gate in Japan due to hardware shortages and an extremely shitty launch lineup so only die hard Sega fans bought into it. Europe was and is firmly PlayStation territory so they largely ignored it. NA was the only major market where it gained any kind of traction due to its much more successful 9/9/99 marketing campaign and launch.
>>12883318Here in Australia the system was completely dead on arrival, no one gave a single shit about it.
>>12883320Yeah that’s what the "piracy killed the Dreamcast" faglord always ignores. It was a total flop everywhere but America. In order to benefit from Dreamcast piracy, you’d have to, you know, own a Dreamcast in the first place.
>>12883318The Dreamcast stumbled in Japan because Sega consoles were all stillborn in Japan, the sole exception being the Saturn and even that only because of Virtua Fighter (VF2 sold 3x better than any other Saturn game).
