Was this really a big deal back then? It gives me the ick how shit it looks ngl, like how can you stand it is all green and shit like wtf.
>>12883004Troll thread? Yeah it looked bad even by the standards of its time. But yes it was somehow a big deal. And it does have some good games on it.
>>12883004The screens degrate over time, so it looked much better back in the day. The green screen was still shitty back then, but there weren't a lot of options at the time so it wasn't a big deal. The Game Boy Pocket was a major upgrade though.
>>12883004the hardware/display is shit compared to the gamegear or lynx(lol) but it doesn't matter because the games are good
There is no reason to play it like that today but at the time it was better than buying 6 batteries ever 3 hours.Seriously though if you want to play real unaltered hardware get a Pocket or GBC.
>>1288300499% of us were playing gen 1 on gameboy colors and not DMGs. I lived through peak pokemania and I dont think I saw a single DMG growing up that wasnt an older siblings artifact.
>>12883045What the fuck does any of that have to do with anything, faggot? >hurrdurr I wasn't alive until after future tech was developed so me n the mates all used future tech.Newsflash, PAL: I was alive for peak 'feel the magic xy/xx' mania and we all played it exclusively on the Nintendo DS. So shut the fuck up.
>>12883004There's like 5 games worth to play on that shit device. All of them are rpgs
>>12883054impressively retarded post
my job application, sir nintendo
>>12883054it's easy to tell you're either retarded or brown just from the first question alone.
>>12883004The screens were shit. They also had way more contrast back then. The thing was also way too big for small kids’ hands, the Pocket and the Color were huge upgrades. Never seen a Light on the wild back then.Too games people had were Pokémon, Tetris, Wave Race, Wario Land, Link’s Awakening, at least where I lived. Wario Land was by far the best of them all.
>>12883004>was literally the first real handheld gaming device ever made a big deal?yes you fucking retard. we didn't have iphones and tablets to compare it to. Having a game in your hands on the couch while someone else hogs the tv was incredible. Or in your room where you didn't have your own tv yet. Or the car. Or on the playground. Etc. Not to mention there were games like Link's Awakening, Tetris, Super Mario Land 2, Wario Land, DK 94, fucking Pokemon later on. Having a zelda game on par or even better than ALTTP in the palm of your hands was more incredible than any gaming memory of your pathetic zoomtard life, easily.
>>12883004It was a compromise. They were more powerful handhelds of the era but they absolutely chewed through batteries and more often than not just ended up being used connected to wall outlets instead. The Gameboy was far better suited for portabilty. It usually had the better games as well. It was basically an inferior NES but for the era it was suitable tech for it's purposes
>>12883004People weren't spoiled for handheld and mobile gaming like they are now. Sure there were better looking alternatives like Game Gear and Lynx but Game Boy had them beat in affordability and battery life and consumers decided those were what mattered.
>>12883081You are terminally retarded
>>12883004The Game Boy Pocket was less green and ate less batteries.
It was a pretty big deal when you were a kid because you didn't own a TV and your parents didn't let you use it sure. TVs didn't exactly fit just anywhere and we're pretty expensive back then. So there was this and The game gear but the game gear had a much poorer library and ate through batteries. There were later iterations that greatly improved the formula like the Pocket, Color, and SP, but it was such a great little system those many many years ago.
>>12883018>The Game Boy Pocket was a major upgrade though.Yes, and no. Yes, the screen on the Pocket is better and less blurry compared to the DMG brickboi (plus you had more options for shell colors), but the tradeoff is a weaker speaker, weaker battery life due to using AAAs, first run units lacking a LED for power/battery life, and hissing when using headphones. The Game Boy Light is more what the Pocket should have been, at least in terms of power drain.
>>12883271Yeah honestly I only ever knew 1 kid that had the original fat model of the gameboy, everyone had the pocket by the time pokemon was out.
>>12883004it was a huge deal back in 1990 when you were in the car and had to share with your two brothers and figure out who got to play super mario land next
