Is it just me or do old JRPGs age Better than old WRPGs.
JRPGs are more about mechanics and being tongue in cheek light hearted stories, while TES Baldurs Fallout etc is clunky and dialogue-heavy.
>>
Btw I've never actually played those WRPGs so i'm talking out of my ass

Why did you capitalize the word better for no reason? I can't engage with your post because it's so clunky.

FF7 is the limit for me, everything after that is worse on a repeat playthrough.

i have is it just me fatigue. fuck off

Well gay people and women like lighthearted things so that's your problem, men like melodrama and epic shit

SMT Nocturne? Unlimited Saga? Shadow Hearts: Covenant? There's plenty of JRPGs with mechanics decent enough to warrant replay and experimentation.

>JRPGs are more about mechanics
could've fooled me, WRPGs do this usually to a fault, games like Fallout and Arcanum and all of the games based on tabletops like Baldur's Gate, Temple of Elemental Evil, they're autistic as fuck with far more depth than your average JRPG
the reason JRPGs usually 'age better' is because of their simplicity in that regard, and the fact they're designed around consoles first which limits their design scope. just compare the menus from Fallout or Arcanum to FF7, the character creation screens alone will make it clear

for me its just the ps1 era being the cutoff. 2d graphics worked better for these games but simplistic 3d like ff7/wild arms was still charming. once ps2 hit and things got more realistic looking with voice acting, i was out. too cringe

Bro have you seen the state of wrpgs, it's all gay theater kids and women playing romance novels and fucking bears

What you are really comparing is console rpgs to computer rpgs.
Jrpgs had lots of "clunky and dialogue-heavy" games too but they were on pc-88 98, MSX and other japanese computers as a result very few ever made it to the west and those that did were console ports that often vastly changed the games to better fit consoles.

>they're autistic as fuck with far more depth than your average JRPG
No need to get carried away. The main reason typical JRPGs has "less depth" is because they use the wizardry-style combat system with no multi-dimensional battlefield. Games that do use grid-based systems tend to have more depth.

>JRPGs usually 'age better' is because of their simplicity in that regard
The JRPGs of that era age better because they are more polished and refined. Simplicity is easier to polish, but it's disingenuous to fixate on that part of it.

Let's take Baldur's Gate as an example. Sure there's a lot of hypothetical depth, but it's also D&D and there's a whole lot of superficial/arbitrary complexity that doesn't meaningfully add gameplay depth. D&D's saving throw systems aren't all that deep. Furthermore, the part that (at first glance) blows FF out of the water in terms of complexity (the RTS-style combat), can boil down to some very simple dynamics where you just point at each target you want your archers to drop and it happens.

But none of that is relevant to the aging question, because all that stuff holds up pretty well (assuming you aren't a retard filtered by thac0).

The main part that ages badly in Baldur's Gate is the PATHING. It's fine most of the time, but it's not rare for a unit to just move in a completely retarded direction you didn't expect or intend. This sort of unrefined system simply has no analog in Final Fantasy VII. The closest rough edge I can think of in Final Fantasy Tactics is that sometimes it can be annoying trying to tilt the camera to get a view of the unit. But that's nothing like thinking you're moving a unit to attack a Hobgoblin a few steps to the right, and instead he lurches head-first into a stinking cloud on the left.
