Do anyone here collect Dreamcast games but wish they got PAL instead of NTSC with the comfy blue cases instead of the ghetto black ones? The collection looks a lot better that way. Or is this too autistic for even /vr/.
>>12887901Blue case but with the orange swirl would be perfect.
While NTSC collectors often envy the beautiful blue shelf presence of a PAL collection, most are thankful for the boring, highly durable, and easily replaceable standard jewel cases they got instead!
European is not the canonical original videogame, it is a secondary copy. That is because the USA is the main character of the world.
>>12887901The PAL cases are very pretty, but incredibly fragile. They're made of really brittle plastic and the hinges snap off, the teeth holding the discs snap off and the rear cover art easily gets caught in the spine if you open the back to get at the manual. They're just not very well-designed, though I guess it matters less if you're just using them as shelf decorations.
lmaoooo american cucks
If they are anything like the American Sega Cd and Saturn case, hell no. I loathe those things.
>>12887901What's up, slobulus
Not particularly. As much as I like the uniformity, it just isn't worth the fact that they're just not all that durable. Regular CD jewel cases already have pretty weak hinges, but PAL Dreamcast cases are even worse. The teeth that hold in the discs are kinda crap too.You used to be able to buy actual genuine new cases. When I started collecting in the early 2010s, I had to replace the cases for almost every game I bought that wasn't new old stock since they'd usually be cracked on the front have some sort of damage. I'm lucky that I still have some stashed away.Still, as bad as the Dreamcast cases were, at least they weren't the absolute dogshit terrible cardboard cases that were originally used for PAL Sega Saturn games.
>>12887901That looks like a shitty collection of those old Atari cartridges
>>12887901If by collect you mean burn literal CD-R’s, yeah I do that
>>12887901>wish they got PAL insteadNo one. No one absolutely ever.
>>12887901kek why is it baby blue? Look like fisher price toys
>>12887901Do i wish i had a collection of pal versions that came in easily damaged cases which were hard to source parts to replace? No, not particularly.
>>12887901They are cool as fuck, but people are right to point out the shitty quality build. It's also true for PS1. Absolutely love the style of both, if only they were more sturdy
>>12888308Refresh rate is a non-issue for Dreamcast because 98% of games can run in VGA mode.
>>12888390Okay, but most users were playing with standard composite.
>>12887913Looks just like my shelf of pirated copies.
>>12888394No, most people were playing with RGB SCART and most PAL Dreamcast games have a 60Hz toggle anyway. Unlike PS2, home of the dog shit PAL version.
>>12887906>The PAL cases are very pretty, but incredibly fragileAmerican troglodytes can't handle delicate works of art. I bet your moms had to tell you not to hug the family dog so hard.
>>12888529Orange swirl is superior.
>>12888520kek most people were not playing with a shart connector. the majority of dreamcast sales were in the united states.
>>12888390That's nice but no one wished they had the gay looking PAL version.
>>12888423>>12888204Pirated copies don't count. You spin up your CD‑Rs, hero of the thrift‑store scene, flexing burned‑up copies like you’re some underground machine. Every game you stole was another nail in the mast, keep pretending you didn’t help bury the Dreamcast. You brag about backups, but you never paid a cent. Funny how your free collection matched Sega’s descent. Piracy Killed The Dreamcast.
>>12888623Ah yes, the common phrase "nail in the mast". Retard.
>>12888630>Retard.Yes you are a retard for ruining your Dreamcast laser with CD-R's. No wonder you piratefags need to replace your laser readers with an ODE.
>>12888635Two things can be true at once, anon. Piracy killed the Dreamcast and you’re an awful songwriter.
>>12888623I never pirated a Dreamcast game back in its heyday, and only saw one in real life.I know piracy killed the Dreamcast is a meme, but it really came out at an unfortunate time when technology was improving by leaps and bounds every couple of years. It outclassed the genre 5 consoles, but by the time Gen 6 proper came out it couldn’t compete against shit like San Andreas or Halo 2.
>>12888529Then how come so many European cases are broken?
>>12887901PAL dreamcast owner here. The blue cases look nice but they're brittle as fuck.
>>12888672Student protests
>>12887901No because I want to play my collection
>>12887901For me it's the same but with the PAL PS2 spines, they look so bland and boring to look at. If you have a big collection of them on a shelf it's just an endless wall of white that looks terrible. Not to mention they often yellow which is even worse. I'm jealous of americans, we got cucked so hard here with these shitty spines
>>12888803>muh topical 'humour'cringe
>>12887903thanks shatgpt!
>>12888852>Noooooo, muh spinedStupid plastic hoarder no one gives a shit. White spines are fine
>>12888930>more interesting and varied packaging design is BAD
>>12887903If you replaced the case, it's not a real Dreamcast game anymore.
>>12889030What if i track down the exact chink plastic factory that produced the same type of generic jewl cd cases for DC games that were also used for something else like music cds?
>>12889106Don't listen to him. Replacing the plastic case is fine, doesn't matter where it's from.
>>12888852I probably shouldn't point out that the spines on PAL DC games have completely different shades of blue depending on the publisher.
>>12888637I didn't write a song. Try again retard.>>12888639You brag about “collections”, you never earned or bought. A library of theft, dressed up as some noble thought. Developers bailed when the sales went flat, but you still blame everything except your own format. Your legacy’s a joke. A bargain‑bin blast, a pirate pretending he didn’t sink the mast! Piracy Killed The Dreamcast!
I don’t understand why Sega made different cases for Europ, especially at a time when they couldn’t have cared less about the European market, often failing to release or translate certain games. Besides, these must have been more expensive to produce than standard CD cases!
>>12889962You had to type it out and post it, therefore it was written. A freestyle is verbal only.
>>12889962Those rhymes needed to cook a day. Your post was too gay.
>>12887906They do look alot like the ps1 pal cases (same size/form) wouldn't be surprised if they are the same or manufactured by the same company
>>12890029AFAIK it's the same reason why PAL PSX games almost exclusively came in thick cases: They needed the extra space for the thick multi-language instruction booklets. For instance here the European manual for ChuChu Rocket! is already quite chunky and that's a fairly simple game. Also holy shit do those dreamcast cases suck. The thing is barely holding together.
>>12890401For comparison here's the PAL version of Rayman for PSX. The manual is even larger here. No chance that'd fit in a regular jewel case.
>>12890401The "reason" is the thick manuals, yeah, but they could just go the MegaCD route where they used stock standard double sized cases. They did this in Japan too for games that required too big manuals, Sim City 2000 had a double disc case despite being a single CD game. The real truth is that Sega always felt they could do the best by copying what every other company does, including the bad choices. So they went with custom PAL cases because PAL Playstation games had custom cases, they went with the garbage d-pad on the Dreamcast because Nintendo had them, they made the Mega CD (which made no sense technically, a co-processor on a data bus, and had to be overcomplicated to work) because NEC released a CD add-on, they made an MPEG card add-on (and the required technical parts greatly increased the cost of the Saturn) because the 3DO had one, they made the Megadrive include the full Master System VDP (when the space could have been used for the originally intended scaling hardware) because the Super Famicom was rumoured to be backwards compatible, they made the Saturn a souped up SNES (same mode 7 graphics, same transparency methods) when they already had 3d hardware in the arcades, and so on and on and on. They were utter fucking retards.
>>12889962get a load of this kid
>>12887901>ghetto black onesOnly collect the white games, problem solved.
>>12890332>>12890376>>12890682>Getting this triggered by my truthful stylized posting.Piracy killed the Dreamcast. That’s the line you fear. Because it hits your ego like a cracked‑out spear. You can rewrite history, but the truth holds fast. Your free‑ride frenzy helped end the Dreamcast.
>>12890870Okay, but that’s still writing a song, not a freestyle.
>>12888889Little too close to home, huh?
>>12891040No, I just correctly called it out for not being funny.
>>12890870get a load of this pseud kid
>>12887901I would never wish PAL shit onto my worst enemy.
>>12890412This was the better solution and something the PS1 did for multi disc games.>>12891697Around the 128-bit era many games already had the option for PAL60.
