I don't know about the rest of the community but as someone who was actually an edgy 12 year old the year Twilight Princess came out, I was fucking ecstatic to ditch the cartoony art style. Wind Waker is fine, but it's definitely not the art direction people expected after the OoT style GameCube tech demo.
