This shit goes from 8/10 to 6/10 at best the instant hovering gets introduced. Let's force the player to grind for resources, but not just that make sure it's a only a really fucking annoying medusa head enemy that drops it, make sure the drop rate is about 5%, lastly make sure this atrocious mechanic is interrupted by taking damage, then put tons of enemies off screen so they get hit and have to waste their time again. Fuck this shit, most justified use of Game Genie in history.
Okay after playing it some more, never mind. It's actually much, much worse from there. Some of the worst boss fights I've ever seen in an NES game. Just abysmal in every sense of the word and it basically ruins the game. Pic related is bottom of the barrel, worst of the worst, nadir of gaming shit.
>>12888593Looks like somebody never heard of the grenade pause trick.I'd say this games 2 biggest problems are losing your gun power when getting hurt and the lack of passwords (emulation fixes this, of course). Although I'll agree, the hover shit is definitely annoying.Still a 7/10 or 8/10 for me though.
>>12888886Yeah I resorted to the pause glitch at the frog rematch, if the hitboxes were better I wouldn't've. Overall the game was flawed, but I still liked it, except for the times I was raging about certain design decisions. 7.5
>thinking hover is the worst powerupWall 2 is far worse and makes the final level infinitely more infuriating than it should have.
>>12888593I remember pressing A locked your aim in your current direction while moving which makes it a lot more manageable. I don't think even the manual explained this even though I'm pretty sure some bosses are impossible without it.But yeah, the way the upgrades work is just retarded. Maybe if they worked better they would be calling the genre Metroidblaster nowadays.
>>12888886>>12888978I remember there being spots where you could literally softlock yourself in the terrain of the final level, ending your game and forcing you to reset.
>>12888164not retro but the remake is really fucking good, play that instead
>>12888164i could have forgiven all that, but the problem is that hovering itself sucks. Its such a letdown.>LOTS of inertia, difficult to use>only really used twice for gameplay>super resource hungry with small margin for error before empty>basically no thought into the process
