I don't really care if you emulate, but you should at least play games using the proper controllers. Either the original using an adaptor or the NSO wireless versions. Using something like a dualshock, dualsense or Xbox controller to play retro games is retarded. 8bitdo controllers are awful too.
>>12889862but that's what i already do
>>12889862The best genre of games can be played with just a keyboard and a touch screen though
>>12889862nah. doesnt matter. mister with the wrong controller is better than software emulation with the right controller
>>12889862Nso controllers suck though, massive amounts of input lag
I play all games with a NES controller. If I need more buttons, I rubber band two together.
>>12889868Kys>>12889874You have a SNAC port for a reason, use it.>>12889878No they don't>>12889886I hate you
>>12889895i use it for ps1 only. those cheap beatmania controllers were too kino to resist. i'm not buying snac adapters and oem controllers for 50 different consoles.
>>12889862You don't get to decide what I do you retarded nword.>>12889874You are balding.
>>12889918you're brown
>>12889942Nothing bad about being brown, you chud incel
>>12889862You don't get to dictate which controller I can or can't use, even if I do have the proper controller for most of them.
>>12889918>nwordPussy
>>12889862I find that having controllers that are similar is good enough. I use the 8BitDo M30 for anything SEGA before the Dreamcast, as the Game Gear felt sort of Genesis inspired, and the Master System had a Genesis/Saturn like controller in later releases. I also use a DualShock 3 for anything PlayStation, including PSP... and the SNES, as the PlayStation's controller was clearly inspired by it, also use it for NES as the SNES controller was similar to the dogbone, and the SNES controller is the base for anything Sony. I have an arcade stick for arcade emulation, but also anything arcade inspired that would have me use the NES Advantage, for example.
>>12889862Unironically, you're right.Using the corresponding controller provides the authentic feeling of experiencing a specific console in its entirety, even if on a emulator. Using the same controller on all consoles gives a homogeneous and wrongfeeling.Playing a SMS or NES game with their original controllers (or faithful replicas) is a whole different (but authentic) experience.
>>12889983I was actually talking about being a Tendie
Don't care, I emulate on a macbook pro and just use its keyboard for everything. And the touchpad as the mouse for DOS games like Doom.
>>12890095>macbook prook, tranny
>>12889862that's a lot of controllers and a lot of space for them that I don't have>at leastIt's sad, but I can't oblige you with this humble request
you should focus on where there are practical benefits first. analog sticks for instance, in that case it can help a lot to go to the trouble of using an adapter, many more variables in that than digital controls.
>>12890076I was actually talking about being a pussy
>>12889874based>t. mister-with-snac user
>>12890117>I was actually talking about being a pussyTalking from experience?
>>12889862>I don't really care if you emulate, Some random internet nobody doesn't care if I emulate? Ohh thank god, I was worried for a second there.>but you should at least play games using the proper controllers. Dang, now you got me! Is there anything else I need to do while enjoying games myself that won't upset your delicate sensibilities? I would hate to cause offense to some stranger via the way I choose to enjoy pirated software.
before I switched to consoles and everdrives and the like, I used to do this, got usb controllers for every console I was emulating
>>12889862You want the authentic retro experience? Here's my authentic retro experience: my controllers would eventually break, or I'd want another controller for multiplayer, and my parents would buy whatever cheap third party controller they could find. Except for the NES, which was a hand-me-down and came with pic related or something similar, so I never experienced the original pad. Yes, this is how I played SMB1 in the early 90s. This happened until the PS2, when I finally moved to PC. Ironically, I've been using the official DS4 and dualsense ever since.
>>12889862>just buy a bunch of adapters or chinese clones to sooth my autismI'll continue using my wireless 360 controller that I've used for everything for the last 15 years.
>>12892735>Here's my authentic retro experienceMy controllers were always original and never broke because i treated them correctly
>>12889862I really don't care to be juggling a gorillion different pads for every single console I play. A DS3 covers you for everything Nintendo up to the SNES and GBA, and of course everything Sony, arguably Dreamcast as well. Now, an argument could be made for also keeping a Saturn pad (for Genesis and Saturn of course) as well as N64 and GC pads, since those layouts are sufficiently different that games for those consoles do benefit from using the original controllers. An arcade stick is also nice.
>>12889862So this is what npcs with no inner monologue "think." Interesting
generic xbox controller works for virtually everything
>>12892761leaving your stuff in a drawer unused is not treating them correctly.
>>12889874>misterI'm not interested in your snake oil sale sar.
>>12889862I don't really care how some faggot thinks should play my games
>>12892751>wireless 360disgusting. that thing has like 4 frames of lag>>12892952ok, broke brown shitter.
I have been thinking about getting a 3 button genesis pad mainly just for playing sonic 1, 2, 3, and cd on my laptop. Why? Because I like to roll my thumb back and forth across the three jump buttons fast as fuck so I can get a top speed spin dash fast as fuck. My cheap gamesir controller is styled after a ps4 pad and the anal log stick gets in the way of me doing this fast as fuck, not to mention the three jump buttons aren't lined up properly. Would also just make genesis more immersive in a gimmicky way. Anybody got experience with any of the the aftermarket ones? Or should I just get a real one used and an adaptor? My tism demands me take action.
>>128930698bitdo m30 bro
>>12893072I was like "nah" as they were all wireless until I saw the xbox branded that is wired. Will be considering as it looks like it would do the job. Also comes with software to rebind buttons which would come in handy for retroarch purposes. Thx for the recommendation
>>12893117you can use all models wired, but the 2.6ghz has a better polling rate than the bluetooth one in wired mode
>>12889862I just do this:SNES Pad: NES/SNES/GB/GBAN64 Pad or Hori pad: N64Saturn Pad: SMS/Genesis/Saturn/PCEDualshock 4: PS1Arcade Stick: anything released in the arcade
>>12889862>emulatingcringe and gay
>>12893198you can use the arcade stick for anything gen iv and earlier, and ps1. all the consoles had official arcade stick peripherals for it
>>12889910>adapters and OEM controllers you just need one of those Chinese Hall Effect pads. That's it.
I use an NES pad for anything that requires 2-4 buttons. Currently playing Neutopia II.
>>12889862>another "buy my scalped shit" threadI will play with the input method I find most comfortable with the game. If the original is shit (most of them are), I will do my best to improve my experience.>you did not beat the gameI did by my count and there's nothing you can do about it
>>12893052as opposed to a rich black nigger?
>>12889862>Using something like a dualshock, dualsense or Xbox controller to play retro games is retarded. 8bitdo controllers are awful too. They're not better than the originals, but they're fine. You're just hopelessly autistic.
