finally playing this for the first timethe theme song is iconic but this shit fucking slapshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqv6QcJUTwQ&list=RDVdjnLVlBy2w&index=3
>>12889929Yeah they're the good ones. The only other one that's any decent is this one reallyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZne93b-FxsAll the rest are pretty dull, just low energy or too basic and sound like those small tunes that came pre-programmed in synth keyboards from the 90s
>>12889929I wish I could play Duke3D for the first time again.
>>12890152I never played DN3D. Envy me
>>12890176https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNprYJNAzBs
>>12890176same. I wonder if it plays similar to blood on higher skill levels.
>>12890191come get some is basically doom ultra violence, quasi default difficulty level. outside of some annoyances not really close to how difficult well done is in blood. damn i'm good just has endless enemy respawns.
>>12890152Play the PSX version. Being forced to play at lowres and with a pad makes it feel like 1996 all over again. The only thing is you'll need overclocking because that version is laggy>>12890191Blood has a higher skill ceiling. Cultists require faster reflexes and more precision, and the way weapons/enemy weakness work mean there is a lot more to learn about how to play.
>>12890151You forgot this one. Probably best in entire OSThttps://youtu.be/n2RD768DXSA?is=4EN96lKTZb8nUgwn
>>12890152Duke Nukem 3DTomb RaiderResident Evil Final Fantasy II and VIIIDragon Quest 2 and 8I can't wait for alzheimer.
What, nobody's mentioned Waterworld yet?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njW-6HvhQ7s&list=RDnjW-6HvhQ7s
>>12890151It used midi so you needed a good sound hardware setup or it sounded like shit, that's a big drawback of most late 80s and 90s PC games. Only some games starting in the late 90s started using CD music and/or digitized music formats maybe in addition to the a midi option, like Hexen 2 did.>>12890191Shadow Warrior and Blood are definitely harder than DN3D
For me itshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW1r2gTC6ng
>>12890385>It used midi so you needed a good sound hardware setup or it sounded like shitI don't think this is really true. Or I've never witnessed it.
>>12891582My first computer had a sound blaster, the second one had a shitty integrated sound card and I couldn't tell any difference. Midi was midi, was midi. People who play it through hardware synths are high on their own farts, nobody used them for playing games or composed with them in mind back then
>>12893537If you had a good sound blaster in the late 90s that was a pretty good sound card for the time. Sound Blaster Live cards for example had an integrated SBAWE32 synth and some ram for soundfonts even. Integrated sound on motherboards after that became servicable due to the switch to digital formats. Today, sound cards are good for taking the load of processing sound off your system and having more audio channels available, so they're more a niche product for audiophiles, music producers and maxing performance in gaming.Composers definitely did compose with them in mind though. The Roland MT-32 for example was the best for music for a long time and was what the composers were targeting, and after that period for the late midi era you needed either a Sound Blaster AWE32 synth or some card that could load soundfonts or an even newer Roland synthesizer.
