It did cost $135 if you used the coupon code, what some reviewers constantly neglect to mention was the cost of shipping. It costed me an additional $25 USD in shipping as a Canuck, but apparently some YouTube channel called Ryan Retro said he paid a similar price point despite living in Korea. MelonDS is focused more on accuracy, which comes with a harsher performance penalty for lower end Android devices. Even if you enjoy Drastic I would recommend looking into SeedlessDS because it also has higher internal resolution renders beyond 2X that Drastic has. And I think on something like Azahar Plus you can use custom drivers which may help you eek out some performance for your device. As for Retroarch, people like it because it's a good all in one.

Pretty easily as long as you make the three plastic legs detachable. It is cheap ABS plastic, shouldn't be too expensive or difficult to make joints that slide or pop into place when you want them. I still can't decide whether it should use an authentic n64 stick or a typical handheld one. I also wouldn't mind replacing the N64 stick with a typical handheld one as long as they just give it a longer pole and larger range of motion than they have ever done before.

What is a handheld I could give to my son and not have him accidentally press a button and open the retroarch menu or whatever. Getting him a GBA with physical games would be ideal but the prices some people are asking are nuts, so I wanna get something simple, barebones, but "safe".

these are getting a little to expensive around here i feel. plus i want to be able to emulate switch games and much more importantly pc games via winlator. i dont really play modern stuff but it should go up to the year 2012 or so.

The best I have used in the Miyoo Mini are dense and have a yellower hue, but they are meant to be balanced by raising the brightness almost double the double of the level you would use without shader-filter.

The console I have wanted since I got into the hobby. But it has always been over my budget, so I got RG280V, next year I got dirt cheap Miyoo Mini Pluses, next year I got a RG34XXSP, this year I got RGDS+....

I could have purchased RG53PS instead I guess... but I literally have a hard time saving disposable income, it is in the single digits per week...

Man, I will end up getting the Atomic Purple one eventually, when it is updated with Game Cube capable chipset in a couple of years, most likely.

100% would solve the RG DS+ "problem" (in the rare case you are in a 12 hour bus ride) with the battery.

I always used spare batteries growing up with my dumb phones and even some Samsung Androids, I would have 2 spares and would go out a whole weekend after University classes, and come back still with charge... it was trivial to change them, no flimsy tiny cables that break if you pull too hard.

I wish we had modular battery packs meant to be replaced on a trip, and which came with an insulating wrap with a "AA Batteries" sticker (emulating the look of AAs through the transparent plastic, when applicable) on them.

Hows the ergonomics of the Retroid pocket duo lite plus, to me it looks like it might need a grip to use it comfortably with both sticks on the bottom

BananaOS is the way to go for the RG DS at this point. Gamma is slow on updates and constantly bogged down by all the new systems he has to support releasing since I believe the companies are paying him to do it so the RG DS has fallen to the wayside compared to the Plus in addition to taking forever to do minor patches to fix the UI or stuff like that.

BananaOS is faster, boots games and exits them instantly (It's legitimately ridiculous, it takes like one second with no hitching), doesn't really glitch out, is easy to set up and use for basically anyone, I think it uses a format Windows can read, the end user can't break it at all outside of resetting settings, it runs stuff better than any of the alternative firmwares at this point, and it even comes with a built-in PKHeX that runs amazingly well. The fact it has MelonDS running on it at full speed is a great example of this and when I tried things like Phantom Hourglass I noticed next to no input latency at all.

It acutally used to be a standard with chinkhelds years ago. For cheap chinkhelds. Anbernic and retroid were the first to test, "hmm... I wonder if people would complain?" Rest is history.
