What was the real reason N64 didn't get any of the Capcom fighting games from the 90s? Don't say cause the system was too weak, cause that's bullshit
>>
>>12910048
2D was passe at that point.
>>
>>12910048
No weeb installbase for that
>>
>>12910048
look at that controller, you think any fighting game is decent for them?
>>
>>12910064
MK4 was fine but not ideal, and Killer Instinct: Gold was a near-perfect arcade port.
>>
People really need to understand how important filesize is. The PS1 was powered by CDs, so its games could hold data multiple times bigger than what the N64 could do. In fighting games and genres where you want to have a lot of art, that's a huge deal. The best looking PS1 games are the result of the fact you could have so many textures. The N64 is a more powerful console, but the PS1 punches above its weight because you can do so many deep and interesting things with textures - things that the N64 struggles with.
>>
Capcom was tired of Yamauchi's Yakuza business strats and basically neglected the system as much as it could

Trilogy on the N64 controller is the best, it has 6 buttons right there in the front, how is it not tailored for fighting games?
>>

Can't do sprites

System was too weak. Needed an expansion pack just to run at 9 fps with graphics that looked like blurry mud.
>>
>>12910528
>how is it not tailored for fighting games?
that unfortunate dpad
>>
>>12910780
Literally just an SNES Dpad glued on, what's so bad about that?
>>
In Japan the N64 was targetted almost exclusively to pre-teens, fighting games are for teenagers and adults.
>>
>>12911598
There is quite literally nothing wrong with the N64 controller's dpad, they're just being a fag because the controller itself looks stupid.
>>
Most fightans had a lot of music, data, etc and n64 carts couldn't do shit and although RE2 exists it required a lot of resources to make it happen and they didn't see kids being into fightan games.
>>
Lack of storage space, Same reason N64 didn't get Rpgs.

the n64 wasn't powerful enough for this
>>

>SNES d-pad + 6 buttons
Literally the greatest controller ever made for fighting games. It's insane that devs didn't bother.
>>
>>12911617
Fighting games need less storage space than pretty much any other genre of game other than maybe falling block puzzle games.
>>
>>12911598
>>12911606
did you ever use the dpad on that thing? its definitely not as good as the snes.
>>
>>12911747
Yes, for pretty much any fighting game. Felt perfectly fine and never had trouble doing ultra combos in Killer Instinct.
>>
>>12911620
It was actually, Capcom are just lazy fags
>>
>>12910547
Neither can PS1.
>>
>>12910064
Are you stupid? It has the exact same d-pad as the SNES, and six buttons on the face. It's an excellent fighting game controller.
>>
>>12910067
>Killer Instinct: Gold
okay, poser. Gold and KI 2 are entirely different games unlike MK4s arcade vs n64 port
>>
>>12911869
the N64 d pad feels super stiff, the snes is more of a floating design that after a bit you don't really think about it, diagonals are a bit hard on the N64 but you want to wear in a d pad a bit and most N64 games don't let you do that
>>
>>12911603
The fact that Capcom released RE2 for it and originally intended RE0 to release for it would indicate that Capcom didn't think that way.
>>
In general what killed third-party support on N64 wasn’t necessarily the storage constraints of cartridges (although they were definitely a factor), but much more it was the manufacturing costs and lead times of cartridges compared to CDs.

Burning data into thin plastic discs will always be faster and cheaper to do compared to ROM chips
>>
>>12910048
The arcade market was really strong in the 90's. When consoles like PS1 and Saturn started to replicate the arcade experience at home, Capcom was longer interested in step down versions. It could do a version of it, but you'd have to pick what features are being cut out.
>>
>>12910048
Maybe they tried and they looked horrible because of the blur filter. Rampage looks like it would work with the filtering. On ps1 you have Mr Driller, can you imagine how bad it would look on N64. Gamecube seems to not have that restriction.
>>
>>12910491
PS1 and Saturn fighting games are huge because they use music recorded from the arcade versions instead of actually playing the music like the arcade versions
The arcade version of Street Fighter Alpha 2 is 27 MB, which can absolutely fit on an N64 cartridge
