Are the kingsfield games any good? They say they are the grandfathers of the souls games.
>>12911120Sure. But the Souls series pulls from almost every previous game in From's catalog, not just KF.
>>12911120Play Pilot Style and decide for yourself. It's a great mini introduction to the series. It's legitimately only 1 hour long, you can beat it in a single sitting.>https://howlongtobeat.com/game/32574
They are first person, the worst genre imaginable
>>12911986Just like real life... Yuck!
>>12912315What is this "real life" you speak of? Is it the new tiktokagram?
If you have nothing better to do and want to spend your time whacking generic fantasy monsters and exploring generic dungeons at the speed of molasses, then yeah KF is fucking great
>>12911120No.
>>12911120no
I never understood the KF=proto-souls thing. They are nothing alike.
>>12911120I found exploring 2 and 3 fun. I mean I liked looking around and finding new areas and swords and spells and shit. Didn't care for 1 and 4.
>>12912569Maybe if you're retarded
>>12912585KF4 is the only amazing entry in the series.
>>12912623It's the prettiest. And it feels like the slowest of them all. Fuck that shit it was already slow why would they slow it down even more. I'll stick with 2 and 3 plz. Maybe Shadow Tower.
>>12911120Give the second game a go>>12912556POV: your mind gets boggled
>>12912569>I never understood the KF=proto-souls thingAction RPGDifficultVeiled storyWeird NPCsLonely vibesInterconnected level design
>>12911120more like grandfather of oblivion
>>12912925>DifficultKF games are easy. Are you retarded?>Weird NPCsThey're not weird. Even the fat soup man.
>>12912923
>>12911120I like them, yeah. The first two are fun and easy. The third one has a lot of running around big empty rooms and shitty puzzles.
>>12913393>KF games are easyspoken like a true souls vet who forms this opinion after 100 hours memorizing every enemy moveset
Mind status?
>>12912925KF is a simplified Ultima Underworlds clone. The same can't be said about any Souls game.
>>12913442No lmao. Attack and strafe around the enemy while your stamina recharges.
>>12911120Kings Field (JP), its ok a little too mazelikeKingsField 2 (jp), Best one of the ps1. Perfect amount of dungeon crawling and secrets not too mazeyKings Field 3: I hated it, never finished it. Awful level design compared to 2 IMO, I will give it another chance once day.Shadow Tower: Very difficult and slow paced compared to KF, never beat it. Lots of frustrating design choices.KF4: Masterpiece, best in the series.Shadow Tower Abyss: Really cool, I want to beat it some dayEternal Ring: It seemed pretty kino prequel to KF4 but I never played much of it
>>12911120Don't expect anything like a souls game, the only thing that's similar is the exploration. These games have their own pace, their own different combat system and if you go in expecting the rhythm of a souls game you're going to end up confused and bored. Approach them as their own thing, bear with it and you might even have a good time.
>>12913497What's hard about ST?
>>12913507Not him but weapons have durability, and the areas branch much more.
>>12913529Maybe it wasn't that difficult for me because I played it right after Wizardry I-II-III, so I made maps on paper. It made me enjoy the level design and the tower descent a lot. I guess it's true that without keeping a map it's a very confusing game, I remember having to backtrack for health and shops.
>>12913507Nta either but the enemies do a lotta damage. Later I got level ups and resources but by that point I was done with the samey levels so I dropped it. Straight up copy paste shit you find in those crappy old games. KFII? Levels are tolerable enough, though it's no feast for the eyes. Shadow Tower? Bro that's deliberate, don't give me that shit.
>>12913497>KF 1 is mazelikenigga you are retarded.
>>12913497KF is more like a typical dungeon crawler type of level structure with multiple floors.KF2 is more like a full on open world and parts of it are the dungeons and also a few village areas with npcs but they are all just continuous part of the island, there is no true distinction between dungeon areas and non dungeon areas.KF3 is like a bit of both, it has the full on dungeons interconnected with the overwold where it has different lands and villages.KF4 is more like one big main multi level interconnected dungeon, the ancient city, with side areas, like the starting area and forest area, dwarf settlement and such. They all feel different to each other enough that I can easily see one person liking one over another.I actually played Eternal Ring and Evergrace all the way through. Eternal Ring feels like a game that was not finished and rushed to meet the ps2 launch, I wish they had given it a few more months, but Evergrace does not feel as rushed because it was a game that was ported from the ps1 to the ps2 for launch so it probably benefited form having an already started development even if they probably wasted time transferring it over to another console.
>>12916039>Evergrace>Eternal RingWhat's the one with the batshit insane OST?
>>12916040Evergrace, great music but not typical.Eternal Ring also has great music but is more in line with what people expect from fantasy games, more conventional.I listen to both soundtracks every so often along with KF4's, possibly the best fantasy game ost out there, maybe a bit too dark for normal fantasy but great for the mood of the game.
