My little sister gave me this and told me that King's Field players were posers: every single one of them play KF with cheats, savestates and fastforward
You're gay for playing the pal version
>>12911262Fun fact: the french translation is absolutely non-sensical to the point of being hillarious. Looks like it was translated by someone barely understanding english, and full of first-grader typos too.Take this light crystal for exemple, translated as lightweight crystal.
Ok so I am a bit confused about the whole Souls saga from From Software. The first one I played was Dark Souls and I thought that was the start of everything. Then I found out about Demon Souls and that felt weird because I had seen some memes about it but I never really understood where it fit. But what really blew my mind is that I just discovered there were games before all of that. They are called Kingsfield and they are on Play two and even Play one. That is crazy to me. It feels so hardcore and old school and now I realize the roots go way deeper than I thought. Honestly it is kind of amazing. I think I am going to become a Kingsfield fan now because if you like Souls you have to be a fan of where it all started.
This shit is slow fucking motion speed. Atrocious game all around.
>>12911469Yeah it's somehow slower than the PS1 games.
>>12911339Pierre...
>>12911262The NTSC release is literally fanfictiin filled with forum poster names.
>>12911356It's far less crazy when you look at the series from a top down perspective. In reality the core design philosphy has never changed, from King's Field to Elden Ring, From just keeps making the same game with incremental updates. You see people going nooo if you go backwards don't be surprised, they're not the same game, but they are!
>>12911339france is a fag country
>>12911167Is your sister hot?>>12912624Japan uses NTSC too.
>>12914174They really aren't, you haven't touched any of these games.
>>12915492Tell me this asshat doesn't belong in Dark Souls 3 with a straight face. I triple dog dare you
>>12915492nta but I dunno how you could claim there's no King's Field dna in current From Software games.
>>12915729It's cause he's a hipster. He can't admit things like that. Dark Souls is amazing/shit while King's Field is amazing/shit.
>>12914837France is cooler than your country
>>12911167>My little sister gave me thisdid she reward you with sex for playing it?
>>12915729I'm not that guy, but I agree with him. KF and the Souls series are fundamentally different games. Yes, there's peripheral similarities (mostly aesthetic) but they're completely different games in pretty much every single way. Dark Souls 2 is the closet thing to a King's Field game and it's universally reviled by soulsfags and considered the black sheep of the series. Unfortunately most people are low IQ and can't have these sorts of discussions because they're incapable of recognizing the constituent components of a game and just focus on surface level similarities. That's why every single retard thinks Yakuza is a "spiritual" successor to Shenmue when those games are fundamentally different from one another.
>>12911167true, I would never play these without quick turn in an emulator, I played jap 1 like that and it was too much trouble. fuck the ""intended"" way, just use modern controls and enjoy the exploration
>>12911167I played all the games on real hardware.
>>12916794>KF and the Souls series are fundamentally different games.are they though? even the combat is similar power/stamina management and maneuvering around enemy lock ons. different weapons have different "move sets" too (in KF it's more about weapon length and swing direction than attack patterns)
>>12916794I would say Dark Souls is the closest game to King's Field considering much of the game is airlifted straight out of KF4
>>12916858>maneuvering around enemy lock onsI see you've never played the game
>>12916893can you at least write a counter argument so I know what you're disagreeing with. I'd hate to guess what you meant by that post.
>>12916858>are they though?Yes, obviously. King's Field is a first-person, slow paced exploration game whereas Souls games are third-person character action games. Dark Souls is not just King's Field in third-person.
>>12916913There is no 'lock on', retard. There are no different 'move sets'. And stamina management is as old as video games.
>>12916942[Dark Souls is literally King's Field in third-person]
>>12917074No.
>>12917074It absolutely isn't and if you genuinely think that you're a turbo retard. Dark Souls is fundamentally a game about combat. There's dodging, parrying, i-frames, light attacks, heavy attacks, (rudimentary) combos, weapon movesets, etc. This applies to the player but also the enemies. The game is centered around mechanical skill expression enabled by all these mechanics. That's why the PvP became so popular, that's why you have people doing lvl. 1 challenge runs, that's why the boss fights are so popular, etc. That's the fundamental conceit of the game. King's Field is first and foremost an exploration game. Navigating the environment (which is essentially a giant interconnected maze) IS the game. The combat is almost peripheral to the game, and consists of nothing but spamming R1 to perform the same simplistic attack over and over as you occasionally back pedal from the equally simplistic enemy attack animation. It is true that Dark Souls has areas that loop back on each other and shortcuts, but the map in Dark Souls is 1/100th the complexity of any King's Field game, and figuring out how to navigate it is not the point of the game. It's (mostly) rather straight forward where you need to go and loops and shortcuts are more of a "oh neat" type of moment rather than something that's fundamental to the game experience (not to mention, they got way sloppier with this in subsequent souls games and the level design became even less of a thing).
>>12911167Kings Field 4 is easy as fuck, especially compared to older games in the series. Why would anybody need savestates at all? Theres some zoomers that use modern control hacks and yes they are beyond posers, kings field is meant to control like an awkward tank otherwise all challenge and tension is ruined. the game is literally designed around awkward tank controls
>>12915719There's definitely some art-style and atmosphere DNA from Eternal Ring, KF4, and ST:Abyss in the original PS3 demons souls but it ends there. Once Dark Souls 1 came out Miyazaki created his entirely own more realistic and oppressive style, whereas Kings Field is more dreamlike and abstract. I refuse the Dark Souls 2 comparisons though, DS2 is really just a dogshit game and comparing any of it to Kings Field is an absolute insult,
>>12917117>>12917168You're right, saying that would be too kind to King's Field
>>12917191DS2 and KF3 were both designed by From Soft's founder, Zin Naotoshi. Some people even say he did some programming on games until DS2, before he kind of retired and let Miyazaki run the company. Zin has a very distinctive style that links the two games, and it's immediately obvious if you play them for a few hours. You can literally see the final dungeon in the skyline of areas around the map from a distance as foreshadowing in DS2/KF3, and it's one of the most memorable things about both games. Both games have you traverse this map that extends out in a linear fashion in all directions and feels massive compared to other entries in both series. Both games commit to this kind of low-stakes not-so-deep kind of fantasy compared to the rest of their series, to the point that they almost feel like Nintendo Zelda games or something. And that's Zin's style, and also the style of Elden Ring. Dark Souls 1 and 3 and KF2 feel more like 3D Metroidvanias where you traverse one massive interconnected area, and Elden Ring, Dark Souls 2 and King's Field 3 have this feeling like you are going on an epic journey across an entire countryside.DS2 has some confusing mechanics and abandons some of the storytelling and balancing choices Miyazaki would make in his games, but it's still a masterpiece and one of the last great games that still has a thoroughly retro 90s design. It really isn't a Dark Souls game, but goddamn is it amazing if you're a real old school From Soft fan. The game is just so big and fun and there's just so much variety, and the whole plotline with the Giants is executed so perfectly.
>>12917363>DS2 and KF3 were both designed by From Soft's founder, Zin Naotoshi.Makes sense now I thought he did all the KF games and despite hating DS2 I respected his KF work but not i know he just did kf3 I can hate his ass. the worst of their respective series. Has zero awareness of map flow, consistency, everything he does feels like random ideas in a blender and applied with low IQ or artistic merit. The giant spaces in KF3 do not work and are a fucking slog, the dungeons in-between feel randomly generated instead of carefully constructed.Elden Ring is just all of Miyazakis games thrown in a blender and forced into open world slop. But at least ER has good gameplay and some of the most memorable bosses of all time, and DS2 feels like utter dogshit with zero redeeming qualities and terrible fucking bosses straight out of WoW assets.
>>12911167If you were talking about Shadow Tower I might have fallen for the bait. KF is a delight.
>>12917491Lol, I respect your opinion. I like all of both series, but KF2 -> KF3 and DS1 -> DS2 are absolutely are absolutely insane departures from the game that came before, and not remotely as cohesively designed. Zin's thing is you're going to go to a lot of areas that are textured differently, and everything is spartan and huge. KF3 and DS2 excel at pacing, environmental story-telling, and lore. The mystery and general vibe from DS1/KF2 is just completely gone, it's very obvious where to go, even when the game does give you multiple options. I think the storytelling, level design, and pacing more than make up for this though. If you make it more than 2 hours into KF3 you'll want to beat the game, or at least I did.KF2 on the other hand I started on 3 or 4 occasions and never followed through with until I really decided to lock in and draw maps.
>>12917050the enemies target the player and turn around to face you. that is a lock on. as for the move sets the arc of the weapon swing decides how it hits. if its a horizontal sweep it will hit multiple enemies in its path and if it's a stab it will hit just in the center and so forth.
