Ignoring the whole debacle about Twin Galaxies and how basically anyone with a record cheated, how the hell are the actual records not held by Japanese gamers? They regularly set kill screens and break records in other games, it makes absolutely no sense that they wouldn't do it in Donkey Kong or Pac-Man. Hell, 1CC is a literal past time for bragging rights in Japanese arcades like Mikado, to the point where there's even a cute girl who works at the arcade who does them live now. I even saw one guy doing 2 players on a shmup by himself. Do you seriously expect me to believe that none of them are setting record scores?
>>
Japanese arcadefags gravitated towards shmups and never looked back. Anything that isn't a scrolling shooter is confusing to them.
>>
>>12912184
Japan also does fighting tournaments, player vs player. High scores in retro games is also not popular.
>>
>>12912201
Yeah but beard guy can't cheat then

Alright, so explain the guy who set a new record in Mr Driller this week and was the first person to achieve a perfect game which previously was only a theoretical possibility?

I guess he must secretly be Korean since Japanese only play shmups like you said.
>>
>>12912180
The real questions is why Billy Mitchell never uploaded his high scores to Great-Gamer.cz? If he afraid of competition from actual czech gamers?
>>
>>12912231
Who's the guy on the right?
>>12912247
Do Czech people actually play games? I only know them for their crazy porn.
>>
>>12912241
Why are you trying to use individual accomplishments to project your own feelings onto a race of people? Are you a sociopath?

Are you going to bring up some ultranationalists' actions whenever someone says the Japanese have accepted American culture into their own?
>>
>>12912290
I never said anything about them being asian. Why are you bringing race into this? Japan has a strong arcade scene with a focus on perfectly clearing difficult games without making mistakes, it's only natural that some of them would break records in the process. That has absolutely nothing to do with them being asian.
>>
>>12912254
>Who's the guy on the right?
Karl Jobst, the guy who was trying to sue Billy and lost.
>>
>>12912241
Japs dont care about 80s arcade games unless it involves a space ship shooting in either a vertical or horizontal direction.
>>
>>12912408
Oh that was funny. Was there ever any updates to that? The last I heard was Karl was going to lose his house or something?
>>12912421
Is that why Mikado set up an entire building dedicated to 80s games that only had stuff like Donkey Kong, Dig Dug and Moon Patrol!
>>
>>12912637
>The last I heard was Karl was going to lose his house or something?
You'll have to check a certain farm of the Australian bird variety to find out. I haven't kept up with the whole saga in a while myself.
>>
>>12912180
>The court noted various differences between Mitchell and GBF including that “GBF appears as a non-human creature, a giant floating head with no body from outer space, while Plaintiff is a human being,” “[r]ather than questioning his opponents’ honesty, GBF simply begs his opponents to let him keep his high score” and “when GBF loses his title, the character literally explodes, unlike Plaintiff.”
>>
>>12912180
OP will never be Japanese and being Japanese isn’t a superpower
>>
>>12912408
>Karl Jobst, the guy who was trying to sue Billy and lost.
Karl was an idiot but he absolutely would have won that case if it was based in the US. Slander/Libel requirements are a LOT higher in the US and saying that you think Billy's lawsuit was a factor in Apollo's suicide would definitely not be slander here. I don't feel bad for Karl though since he's a nutcase.
>>
believe it or not japanese do not have any special autism powers that other east asians or whites do not also possess.
>>
>>12912642
What does this have to do with being Japanese?
>>
>>12912180
>how the hell are the actual records not held by Japanese gamers?
The true answer is because prior to Twin Galaxies (and even years after them) no one gave a shit about record keeping. Think about it like the start of any other sport, how many baseball records existed in the 1800's?

Yeah because that's the only kind of foreign film most of you weabooboos watch
>>
>>12912647
> I don't feel bad for Karl though since he's a nutcase.

They are both nut cases. Truly a clash of titans.
>>
>>12912180
The "actual records" generally are not hosted on Twin Galaxies. Twin Galaxies is considered a joke among most serious arcade players.
>>how the hell are the actual records not held by Japanese gamers?
The rest of the world has caught up to Japan a years and years ago, anon.
>arcades like Mikado
Aren't really even that relevant for this. The best players are playing at home and submitting footage of their runs to the scoreboards for their particular genre.
>>
>>12912772
>The true answer is because prior to Twin Galaxies (and even years after them) no one gave a shit about record keeping.
Utter nonsense. Every issue of Gamest was filled with high scores from various arcades all over Japan.
>>
>>12913126
I watch Hollywood movies sometimes and those are foreign. Not so much anymore; but I do enjoy a lot of the older ones.
>>
>>12913193
Yes plenty of magazines did this, but the standards were all over the place and they were almost always contained to regional scores, this is normal for the time but asking why predominantly English speaking people gravitate to the largest English speaking score keepers is hardly a bomb shell. Japs probably never even heard of Twin Galaxies before.
Anyways back to the other point, the standards varried between magazines but they normally just went from "write in your score" to "take a picture of the screen" taking nothing else into account while Twin Galaxy had pretty damn strict proof standards for the time. This didn't stop people from lying and making shit up but it did give them far more credibility than any magazine.
>>
most people lie or cheat about harder games. once you get older you no goodo at em.
>>
>>12913128
More like... crash of the titans?
>>
BS. He didn't cheat. He could demonstratively perform such scores and has since exceeded them.
>>
>>12912180
If your entire world is shitty arcade games nobody cares about anymore then sure. Japan being good at video games is such a 2000s opinion.
>>
>>12912180
>I even saw one guy doing 2 players on a shmup by himself
Shmups are the dad games of all time. Aren't rhythm games huge in Japan? Why aren't they as good at those compared to Koreans?
>>
>>12912247
why would anyone give a fuck about Czech gamers and their high scores and also that website seems to be down so why would any non-Czech person want to upload scores to a website that isnt even working
>>
>>12912180
The Japs aren't babies, if they set records they will tell you.
>basically anyone with a record cheated
Not even remotely true.
>>
>>12913192
>The "actual records" generally are not hosted on Twin Galaxies. Twin Galaxies is considered a joke among most serious arcade players.
Where do you go to see actual high scores then? Is there a scoring equivalent of speedrun.com?
>>
>>12912647
It also doesn't help that Karl's calls to action for funding his court case always made it seem like Billy was suing him SPECIFICALLY about the cheating allegations and not that Karl claimed that he made Apollo kill himself.
>>
>>12917315
oh yeah 100%. Karl sucks, I'm just stating that he would have probably won by US standards.
>>
>>12912180
Japanese people tends to actually enjoy their games instead of LARPing as joyless celebrities because they can play Super Mario Bros really fast.
>>
>>12918137
The japanese had a speedrunning scene before the west and still have big one in certain games...
One of the things that introduced a bunch of westerners to speedrunning at all was Morimoto's SMB3 TAS.
Stop being a fucking weeaboo retard.
>>
>>12918207
I think its more that guys who held high scores (not speedrun records) aren't minor celebrities over there.
>>
>>12918137
It's the opposite. Japanese people are depressed and miserable all the time and spend their time complaining about other cultures on Xitter. Meanwhile Niftski's Larpio WR has great energy and is one of the greatest moments in video game history.
>>
>>12918590
I watched a bit of that and got annoyed immediately
