I remember getting Yellow when it came out, despite already having Red, because I guess I was too deep into the pokehype, me and my friends would also hype each other, we thought that Yellow might have crazier things than it really has, but I guess having new sprites that are colored (I did have the GBC so I enjoyed the colors), the new Team Rocket based on the anime and the overhaul in pokemon available, and of course the Pikachu starter, and finding all 3 starters later, which was awesome.
Difficulty also seemed to be ramped up to me, but there was one particular thing about it that bothered me, something about it felt off compared to my old Red version. Couldn't put my finger on it but it seemed a bit clunkier, slower.
Just now 30 years later almost I confirm this, as speedrunners have found, thanks to their autistic speedrun investigations, that Yellow is indeed a bit slower in general than Red/Blue.
I also wonder if playing Pokemon Yellow on a Super Game Boy would make it run at normal speed

I'm almost sure the speed is slower still even if you don't have Pikachu in your party

As a kid I definitely thought that Yellow was going to be something like Pokemon: The Cartoon: The Game, more closely following the vibe of the show than really boiling down to R/B+, and with Pikachu as your starter. Like I assumed Misty and Brock would join you or something.

How young are you anon? The Play It Loud campaign was everywhere around 1994/1995
>>
>>12912552
to be fair DMG "Play it Loud" did only last like a year before Pocket replaced it.

I was 2. Despite this, I had a DMG, and spent probably 500 hours of my life looking at it

i hate how Jessie and James (or just ROCKET, or whatever) were shoehorned in.

these games were never well-balanced, but it was like
>okay you've defeated all the Team Rocket Grunts, and now the Rocket Admin? FUCK YOU we've added an extra miniboss.
