Saturn launched in November 1994, the Playstation in December 1994. Saturn was first. And from 1994 to 1998 it was honestly the better console. On hardware, Saturn was a monster. Two SH-2 CPUs, two video processors, real arcade architecture. It was built to be the perfect 2D machine and it was. Games like X-Men vs Street Fighter, Vampire Savior, Radiant Silvergun, Guardian Heroes, Dragon Force, Panzer Dragoon Saga - the Playstation could never do those properly. It had no real RAM for sprites, everything was cut, load times everywhere, missing frames. Saturn had 2D perfect and real 3D when devs knew how to use it. Virtua Fighter, Sega Rally, Virtua Cop, Daytona USA were actual arcade boards in your house. So why did Playstation win? It was not quality. It was Sony buying the market.Sony was not a game company. They were an electronics giant with infinite money. They could not beat Sega on games or hardware, so they went after publishers directly. Everyone in the industry from that era knows the story. Sony threw private parties for CEOs and executives, flew them to Tokyo, wined and dined them, and offered checks for exclusivity. They paid for exclusivity deals to keep games off Saturn. They paid to keep the publishing costs artificially low on PS1 with cheaper CD licensing compared to Sega and Nintendo, taking a loss on purpose just to kill Saturn. They also bribed with marketing money. If you put your game only on Playstation, Sony would pay for your TV ads in the US. Sega could not compete with that. Sega was a game company making money from games. Sony was using money from TVs and Walkmans to buy the game industry. That is the only reason PS1 won from 1994 to 1998. If you look at the library honestly, side by side in those four years, Saturn is better built, better arcade ports, better exclusives for real gamers. Sony just had more money to throw at private dinners and to lock games down.
Bald women was really a thing in 90's commercials
it's been 30 yearslet it go nigga
>>12912342Nowadays its like the polar opposite with overweight black women wearing weaves.
>>12912310yeah noit was a walmart playstation and everyone knew it
>>12912310Xbox had more money than Sony and they still lost.
>>12912589Not in USA where Xbox 1 beat Gamecube and 360 beat PS3.Sony had the benefit of being a Japanese brand, at least until they became californian in ps4 era
>>12912598>Not in USA where Xbox 1 beat Gamecubestill lost to the PS2>and 360 beat PS3.and still lost to the Wiiyou're proving him right
>>12912604Microsoft didn't lose, they still penetrated the console market, set paid online as an industry standard, and didn't have to resort to all the amount of corporate dicksicking that Sony had to do mainly because Xbox never cared about exclusives, other than the failed strategies in Japan
>>12912342A trend I dream of returning
>>12912310Sega fans still delusional and coping this hard decades later
>>12912856It always sounds like bait
They sure didn't bother with arcade ports at launch so nobody knew what it was.
>>12912310and the sega saturn is way sexier than the poopstation
what's the point of the saturn being a "great console on paper" if all its best games never left japan?whoever spent money on it at the time got scammed. it's honestly really simple. "it could have been SO good, bro" yeah and the n64 could have come out with discs, but neither happened. i honestly think it was for the better. i'd rather the saturn being a treasure trove of niche foreign releases, rather than just a shittier ps1 that can't really do 3D properly
>>12912310got a saturn and dreamcast recently since i never touched sega when i was a kid, just had ps1 + ps2. ill be honest i can believe sony payed to keep games off Saturn because it is a struggle to find something playablewhat ive played so far:>sonic jam - saturn: great fantastic but just sonic>street fighter collection - saturn: sf2 done right. the xbox port is so bad compared to this>nights saturn: the bosses can go fuck themselves, also final of the game requires a min ranking is just lol. as a peaceful little trippy game to play, it's okay.>panzer dragoon 1 and 2 saturn: horrendously bad, played the first 3 chapters and decided to just skip to saga>sonic adventure - dc: honestly not bad after the first hour but a retarded final boss>shenmue - dc: would've enjoyed it more if a lot more people were just honest about this being a chill out slice of life game but overall very good>shenmue ii - dc: got to the part where you get robbed by the kid and my wage slave bucks go byebye. i honestly was furious, what a wasted opportunity to do something interesting. i hate hong kong, i want to go home. had to put it down for a while because the vibe and side hustles just piss me off>pso - dc: i have to just assume with this that the online was just a nice vibe because the solo gameplay is woefully bad>sega rally 2 - dc: excellent if you like rally driving>virtua tennis - dc: great if you like tennis i guess>bass fishing - dc: surprisingly fun>soul calibur - dc: probably the best fighting game ive ever played as a non sweatthe most confusing thing with sega is that all the stuff people rave about is mid to absolute dogshit at best, while the meme games like bass fishing are actually gold. in my mind sega rally 2 is a better game than panzer dragoon or nights because i actually have a clue what the fuck is happening. if anyone has recommendations for saturn games that have held up pls let me know
>>12917312you're a shitter. the games open up more if you care about skill and getting good. a game you can enjoy right away is space channel 5. and the amiga game if you can get the maracas. games that i liked that i think you will hate are gunbird and donpachi
>>12912310>better arcade portsIn what fucking fantasyland do you live in?Name a single Saturn game that was better than the arcade, cause I sure as shit can't think of any.Tekken 3 on PS1 with its additional content was so much better than the arcade version that it marked the beginning of the death of arcades.
>>12917331i just don't care for high score tryingharding. my best experience hands down was the soul calibur mission mode because the difficulty escalated in interesting ways and the rewards are spaced out well. the 4 hours spent as a forklift driver in shenmue, i was able to completely turn my brain off
>>12917383This, in fact Saturn was notoriously bad arcade ports for games like Virtual Fighter and Daytona USA got multiple versions.
>>12917383waku waku 7, it got a remixed soundtrack which sounds quite sweet.
