I was always a N64 kid growing up and I feel like I've mostly neglected the PSX over the years. So lately, I've been going through the PSX library on original hardware (MiSTer FPGA), really trying to experience the full gamut.

So far I've beat (with a score from 1-10):
>Crash Bandicoot (9)
>Crash 2 (8)
>Crash 3 (8)
>Crash Team Racing (7)
>Spyro The Dragon (7.5)
>Spyro 2 (7)
>Spyro 3 (6.5)
>RE1 (6)
>RE2 (8.5)
>RE3 (7)
>Silent Hill (7.5)
>Klonoa (5)
>Ape Escape (4)
>Mega Man Legends (6)
>MGS (6.5)
>FF7 (6)
>MegaMan X4 (8.5)
>Ace Combat 2 (7)
>Medal of Honor (4.5)
>Castlevania SotN (6)
>Spider-Man (5.5)
>Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (5.5)

Dropped (all trash):
>Tomba
>Rayman
>Oddworld
>Omega Boost

What all am I missing? What are some good picks based on what I liked?

I like g police and rogue trip and treasures from the deep and tenchu and bushido blade and ridge racer 4

Why does a PS5 get firmware updates? Was the previous PS5 not a real PS5?
>>

>>
>>12912942
How does that analogy even make sense? The target of an FPGA is a PS1. The target of PS5 updates is whatever the current libraries and security patches are. An update decidedly makes your PS5 console function differently, because that's the point; you still haven't explained why FPGA core updates don't affect the PS1-ness of the PS1 core.
>>
>>12912970
As SNES consoles age, it can cause very slight timing differences as the MiSTer allows you to choose actual or real timings, so it's actually more accurate than the real thing. These are basically what's being added in updates.

I was not aware that the PlayStation 1 stack was a rolling release still changing to the present. Thank you for this irrelevant anecdote that doesn't answer the question.

PSX is my most emulated system. it's tied with the SNES. i'm always going back and forth between their libraries. the PSX library holds up surprisingly well. i was also a nintendo kid, kind of glad i was because now i've got a practically infinite list of awesome games to play for free.
>>
>>12912974
Let's look at those core updates for PS1.
>CD: improve Pause timing accuracy with SPT model
>SPU: fix missing reverb on CD audio playback
>SPU: add lightweight FIR filter for reverb input (fixes Metal Gear Solid codec sound)
>CD: fix Init second response timing (fixes incorrect sounds in Virtual Pool 3 and Disruptor)
>SNAC: Fix MCtransfer not being reset between transfers (fixes screen tearing)
>CD: fix pause handling during seek (fixes Max Power Racing music playback)
>CD: Fix PAUSE timing to match psx-spx and DuckStation (fixes severe frame rate drops in Driver 2 and the intro freeze in Darius Gaiden)
Ruh roh, looks like they're still trying to make the hardware-accurate mister core hardware accurate, and have to keep fixing edge cases because they don't have it accurate enough.

Yeah, these FPGAy faggots always claim they're using real hardware. I'm like "bitch, I'm the one using real hardware with real consoles." Because unlike those idiots, I actually do own a Dreamcast, a Saturn, a Genesis, a Sega Master System, an NES, a SNES, an N64, a Gamecube, a PS1, a PS2, and an original Xbox. I don't fucking need FPGA faggotry.

These FPGA faggots are probably the same ones who call themselves real artists when they use AI.

>all that thousands of dollars, and thousands of pounds of plastic, and wasted space for an inferior, far less convenient and feature rich experience
>>
>>12913992
Complaining about what I spend my money on, is not my problem. If poorfags like you can't afford original hardware and have to rely on fake hardware that emulates these consoles, the problem isn't my wealth. The problem is your lack of wealth, hence your lack of space.
>>
>>12912761
>bought raspberry pi 2 for 30 dollars in 2015
>plays genesis, snes and playstation games extremely well as if i am playing on original hardware

i don't understand why people waste 200 dollars on a fpga device. software emulation is good enough
>>
yeah fuck this
>>
if you are going to play on a modern tv software emulation is preferable because fpga devices don't have shaders
>>
>>12912761
muppet monster adventure

it's a 3d platformer. i beat it a few months ago
>>
>>12914131
MiSTer does have tons of shaders, and you can use a Retrotink for even more. Shaders are fun to mess around with but 99% of the time I just prefer sharp bilinear for clean, sharp pixels, and then a gamma adjustment using the built in filters. You wouldn't believe how much tweaking gamma makes a difference
>>
>>12914168
And it would an inaccurate piece of shit with tons of input lag. That's your prerogative
>>
>>12914182
>input lag

i don't notice any input lag at all

most people who buy fpga devices don't have to worry about input lag because they suck at gaming

only people who need to worry about input lag are speed runners
>>
i beat 50+ psx games using software emulation. input lag and latency don't prevent people from beating the games

it's all shitty gamers who are blaming latency for their lack of skill
>>
>>12914209
It's about 30-50ms more usually. Input lag affects your performance whether you perceive it or not. It's basically like playing with reaction times 30 years older than your actual age.
>>
>>12914219
>Input lag affects your performance whether you perceive it or not.

it affects your performance to an insignificant degree
it's not something you should be concerned about if you aren't a speed runner
>>
>>12914221
I mean that's not insignificant, that's more than many TV game modes. People dick measure about a few ms lag difference between controllers or TVs, that's largely irrelevant, but that's multiple frames which definitely does make a significant difference. I guess you've just never experienced how much more fluid and responsive zero latency is.

Again, it's just a cope for an inferior setup. You have to ask yourself how much that input lag and lack of accuracy matters. And to you, it clearly doesn't (or at least you try to act like it doesn't)
>>
30-50ms won't prevent you from beating sonic the hedgehog 2 if you were able to beat it on original hardware. you won't even notice it
i don't notice it
>>
>>12914229
Overdosing on copium
>>
>>12914226
>accuracy

this is irrelevant to me. if it plays as if i am playing it on original hardware who gives a fuck about accuracy?
if i have to use an expensive powerful computer to get accurate emulation then i rather use an inaccurate emulator so i can play on low end hardware

when i play on raspberry pi 2 i use pcsx rearmed and snes 2005
>>
>>12914239
snes9x 2005*
>>
if you compared pcsx rearmed and original psx hardware using a crt you wouldn't even know the difference
>>
>>12913643
Same anon from above. It's one of those games where you start noticing all these little things the developers put into it. The movement is great, but what really gets me is how much there is to discover for a 1997 title. 100+ events, all these interconnected quests, hidden areas, characters who need help. I genuinely don't understand how anyone can write it off as trash.

Argue about the hardware all you want, but Tomba is sacred.
>>
i don't even know what accuracy means because pcsx rearmed plays without lag and slow down and it's supposedly not the most accurate emulator. it prioritizes performance over accuracy

it plays fine to me. that's all that matters. if i were to compare it to original hardware i wouldn't even notice the difference
>>
>>12914239
More copium
>>
>>12914182
>muh input lag
Is barely noticeable to any normal gamer. I suggest you stop smoking weed while playing.
>>
File: images.jpg (34 KB, 597x335)

i would recommend fpga for people like ullillia who spend 1000s of hours playing video game.. i would not recommend it for casual video gamers who spend 2 hours playing a single game

if i had to guess it's mostly the latter who are buying fpga devices. They are concerned more accuracy, picture quality, etc than they are about playing the actual games
>>
File: images.jpg (8 KB, 300x199)
8 KB JPG
>>12912761
>original hardware (MiSTer FPGA)
>>
>>12914301
Lmao, 40ms input lag is massive, you are just retarded
>>
>i want to recreate how i played video games as a child

then you would buy a shitty consumer crt and play with rf adapters. no one used scart cables, s-video cables and component cables back then.
no one used a sony trinitron back then. they were too expensive.

i didn't even use a composite cable until the n64. i had no idea what a composite cable was until it came with my n64

i don't even think i ever played sega genesis with a composite cable. i played sega genesis with a rf cable when i was a kid in the 90s

this was back when people called bowser "king koopa' and eggman "dr robotnik"
>>
inaccurate doesn't mean they don't play well as people often interpret that to mean

accurate emulators can play like shit because they require more processing power

inaccurate emulators were actually preferable on low end hardware
>>
>>12914409
are preferable*
>>
>>12914217
>software emulation
you didnt beat the games
>>
>>12914409
MiSTer's cores are all designed for that one spec and run identical to OG hardware, cope.
>>
>>12913013
oh you mean they referred to software emulation for the implementation of the totally optional QoL option to pause the core when opening the osd menu and how to handle CD reads while doing so?

thats great sweety. now show me how your software emulation can copy fpga's ability to do actual parallelization so that input, video, and audio are all processed at the exact ssme timings as og hardware. oh whats that, hon? it cant? you have to settle for sync issues, stutter, or constantly altering the game speed? thats too bad lambchop.
>>
>>12912761
>What all am I missing?
Metal Gear Solid and VR Missions, Tenchu 1 and 2, Resident Evil, and if you like old school dungeon crawlers, PSX has arguably the best version of the first 3 Wizardy games
