Anyone here keep an NES collection? Do you regret it. Do you get them CIB or loose? What is your advice for someone just starting. I've already bought Mario 2 on NES personally.
>>
only buy loose carts, of games you intend to play
buy complete in box games if you want a bunch of shit to take care of for the rest of your life

this is good advice but I'll add don't buy more games until you have completed the ones you have. start with classics like the Marios and Mega Mans.

I feel exactly the opposite way. Buying games to play them is completely pointless. All of these ROMs have been dumped for decades and flashcarts are (relatively) cheap. Collecting video games is a separate hobby from playing video games, and there's no point in add a game to your collection unless it's CIB.
>>
Don't over spend on rarer games. Flash carts are your friend until you find a good price. Also helps to see if you really want them. That is the other thing only get what you enjoy or means something to you.

>Anyone here keep an NES collection?
Yes
>Do you regret it.
No, why would I regret it?
>Do you get them CIB or loose?
Loose. Don't pay for old cardboard.
>What is your advice for someone just starting.
Rome wasn't built in a day and collections aren't built overnight. It takes time to build a library.

Also, only buy the games that you actually intend on playing. There's nothing better than a curated collection. Also when your collection starts growing you'll find out just how valuable space is.

And learn how to solder and do simple repairs.
>I've already bought Mario 2 on NES personally.
That's a good game.
>>
>Anyone here keep an nes collection?
yeah
>Do you regret it.
nope
>Do you get the cib or loose?
loose only, manuals I keep an e-reader with the games I own manuals on it.
>What is your advice for someone just starting?
Aside from what >>12916148 said, I'd say buy max 2-3 at a time, play them for a while and then sell what you didn't enjoy playing or feel like you'd return to. If you have doubts or are unsure, put it aside for a while and see how you feel about 'not' being able to play it.
good games can be cheap, infact 99% of games you'll probably be interested in playing are going to be under current game msrp so like 70-80$, that being said you can get something fun like cobra triangle or ninja gaiden for like 15-20 bucks.

The wonderful world of /vr/

I'm right. There is zero practical benefit to using an original cartridge over a flash cart. You may enjoy the novelty of it, but that is a separate pleasure than actually playing the game.

Nah, you're not invalidated, but he isn't right. The truth is that anybody can do this hobby however they want.
