what are your memories of these? did they ever convince you to purchase something? playing metroid prime at best buy made me get a gay purple lunchbox for $99. actually it was silver. but the way moving in/out of the morph ball looked and felt was just awesome. i also remember seeing mario 64 for the first time on a kiosk at babbage's. i already wanted it but playing it briefly of course just made me want it more.

>what are your memories of these?
basically:
>go shopping with parents
>so unbelievably boring
>know store has electronics section
>"see you later, alligators. i'll be at the game kiosk"
>parents mumble "yeah whatever don't leave the store"
>play games for half hour
>parents come back
pretty nice

>did they ever convince you to purchase something?
gameboy

>what are your memories of these?
My memories of underage shitposters are too vast to even try to describe
>did they ever convince you to purchase something?
Yes. Long before you were born, when underage shitposters started crying about the cost of mario games I bought up everything in my city. I even went to other cities and bought everything I could find.
Now my """collection"" is worth many times your degenerations average debt. Thanks underage shitposter.

Let's see.
>playing Super Mario World on some sort of demo station, too young to remember if it were a formal kiosk or just a console hooked up to a TV
Banzai Bill blew my mind.
>Super Mario Land 2 on one of those units that have a TV with a yellow-green film on it
Really magical, especially seeing the world map.
>Wario Land and Link's Awakening... can't remember if they were on a TV kiosk or a GB-only kiosk; WL might have been the former
I don't remember playing too much of either of these, but they were still really neat.
>Vectorman
Holy shit, this looks so cool
>Super Mario 64 at a Blockbuster
Seeing Mario in full 3D action was amazing.
Of course I played a few other games on demo kiosks, but those stand out.
There really was something special about playing new games in demo kiosks. The kiosks themselves were either in toy stores or in the videogame section of a store which gave the whole setup a magical feeling for a kid, the games were typically relatively new (or at least new to me) things that I'd never even seen in person, and the fact that you'd typically only get to play a random section for a few minutes made your imagination run wild. You'd leave the kiosk filled with all sorts of speculation about what else could be in the game. Thinking back, games having a world map was a pretty good advertising technique, since seeing a world map when playing a game on a demo kiosk really tickled that sense of wonder about all the other shit that lied beyond the little snippet that you got to play.

This but replace half an hour by "one hour".

It was a PSX kiosk and just ONCE there was a guy there already playing. He looked like he was in his early twenties and the game was Tekken 3. Surprisingly, the guy seemed good at the game, which made me wonder if he already had the game at home and if he was going to hog the machine for a whole hour.
After maybe 30 mins of watching him play I realized it says "2 players press start" at the top. So I did. He proceeded to grumble and kick my ass. Then I let go of the pad, watched him play another round against the CPU, and pressed start again in the middle of his match.
Repeat the process until his GF fetched him when she was done with the shopping and the scene was uncanny because it was like watching my mother fetch me.

They were fun and I liked them. (I still like them but not nearly as much.) This is the only way I have ever touched a Saturn. I don't think I have ever been convinced to buy or ask for any particular game by one of them... except maybe Resident Evil 4? Yeah actually I think that one worked.

>This but replace half an hour by "one hour".
i emember there was some kind of etiquette between kids, like these informal rules where if you died you had to fuck off from the kiosk and let someone else have a go that was waiting, especially if there was a new game.
>Repeat the process until his GF fetched him when she was done with the shopping and the scene was uncanny because it was like watching my mother fetch me.
my gf would literally dump me at the electronics section and fuck off so you probably encountered someone like me waiting forever lol

I have a strange memory of playing a demo of Metroid Prime, Frigate Orpheon of course, but the demo had the ice beam as selectable, and the ice was blue.

>what are your memories of these?
I recall playing Mario Kart 64, NiGHTS, Vitual Fighter, Ape Escape, Vectorman, and was the first/last time I played a Vitual Boy(was the Wario game).
>convinced you to buy a game
Yeah definitely got me to want to buy Vectorman. The look, music, and first boss sold me. Too bad the game goes downhill from the first stage on.

My small town k-mart had a SNES connected to a tv sitting on a shelf directly inside the main store entrance so all the kids would see it. Took a few minutes to figure out Mario's spin jump wasn't his regular jump. After that I was blown away by the game.

Looking back on it, I lived in a very high trust area because anyone could have stolen it before the workers could stop them but no one would dare do such a thing.

>IT'S A CUBE! LOOK AT THOSE GRAPHICS!
>MAKES THE N64 LOOK LIKE A PILE OF CRAP!
>A PILE OF CRAP, JERRY!!!

I don't remember too many demo kiosks other than mario 64 and dk 64 looking cool. I recall playing kirby's dream land 2 on one of those oversized gameboy kiosks at montgomery wards once.
I remember the funkoland tvs more. First time I saw megaman x4 and it blew my goddamn mind that zero played the way he did. There was also some 3d polygon RPG (don't know the console, but probably ps1 or ps2?) in the late 90s or early 2000s where some humanoid enemy hit the MC with a move called "bat tackle" and the MC's HP hit 0 and he was lying on the floor and proceeded to say "I think I'm dying." I still have no idea what the the fuck that game is and I can't find shit about it. If anyone knows, please tell me.

One store had Castlevania 64 for a very long time. Of course no memory card, so kids were replaying the first level over and over and over.
I still love CV64 and prefer it over LoD.
