When did you realize King's Field was top tier? KF1 is basically a tech demo for the playstation in a lot of ways, you can see the concept being fully realized in KF2, which released like 6 months later.

Its not for everybody, especially people who get filtered easily by a bit of obtuse design, but learning all the guts of each game is rewarding for those with higher IQs than the mouth breathing masses. There isn't much quite like it, and Ultima Underworld is much more complex game but doesn't hit the same, and doesn't possess the same values. Kings Field puts all its marbles on exploration and the satisfaction of progression and finding secrets. Its kind of like the feeling of adventure of a Zelda except contained in one giant underground dungeon and put at a much more slower pace to instill a somber and odd atmosphere
