Japanese audiences tended to prefer escaping from the small apartments which was why ad-hoc networks and small portable devices were preferred for the core audience's habits. The Xbox was just too big for home, but it was much more successful when volume is less of an issue as it was in arcades in the form of Chihiro hardware. So it was a misaligned target audience where Microsoft should have focused on being the arcade.
