Had high STR and DEX, used one-handed DEX melee weapons, I had a crossbow (I didn't use it much, admittedly), and maxed out spell circles, although my mana pool was rather humble. It wasn't a problem, though, because I used the mana regen set.
I just played through Gothic 1. It was nauseating dogshit. The entire game had me running joyless errands. Nice jogging simulator for homosexuals. The end game swarmed me with hordes of enemies until it was unceremoniously over. My only other Gothic experience was 3 in 2006 which was garbage. I'm not holding my breath for 2. If 2 games so far were bad I'm not expecting a masterpiece from the most hyped of them.

I recently replayed all 3 gothics, with comm patches and all.G1Legitimately has too much slow walking, is otherwise quite an easy game once you know what you're doing. Also use the animation hack to turn off pickup animations.G2 NOTRI beat it twice but I couldn't deviate to anything other than master sword to raven claw str stacking because everything else felt like bad damage. Also has too much walking. Also turn off the animations for pickups.G3Is actually much more pleasant to play if you're past G1 G2 first/second impressions. It's clearly not very well finished and much unlike G3 but it's very comfortable to play and the comm patch has many features to make it very convenient. If I had to play gothic again I'd pick 3, first two are very linear in terms of optimal play. But I also feel like anything other than magic is unplayable in G3, maybe str maxing and spin to win would work.

It's possible to use all 25 king sorrels on dex potions.The weakness of a bow is that it's kind of all or nothing weapon, you either have the stats or you don't but it's not hard to get enough stats. Trolls are immune to bow attacks but that's barely a problem.Everything said applies to crossbows too, in Archolos crossbows are godlike since they also come with armor piercing on top of superior damage.

Chapter two completed!Primarily for this run I wanted to avoid putting in any points into dexterity and I've spent 0LP on dex so far seeing how minimum amount for chapter 2 is 45 but that wasn't such a good idea. At 60 dex there's a better sword in Tamora as well as a bunch of level 2 lockpick chests which I couldn't open. I can return to all of them later in chapter 4 but that's still kind of ass. If there's ever a 3rd go I'll be aiming to hit 60 dex by chapter 2.Tamora is still a major pain with everything killing me in 1 or 2 hits but there's no avoiding it, there's simply no LP available to spend on HP. You gain 0 HP per level in odyssey so current HP is from life elixirs only.One thing I didn't realize is that you can learn all the triple jewelery and armor upgrades in chapter 2 maybe they're worth it earlier on it's something to experiment with.

It's the first place with obsidian to upgrade armor or weapons5. Fire golems for the ghost admiral quest6. Chapter three completed!I really should just stop playing here because I more or less satisfied my curiosity about early game inefficiencies of the first run. By chapter four I figured out pretty much every optimization technique and how things work in this mod. That said even if you optimize your character to the limit the mod is still bullshit on legendary difficulty with me barely being able to pierce shadowbeast and forest golem armor at the very end of chapter 3 and those fuckers start showing up a whole chapter ago. Legendary = 5 damage mode simulator.But I'll probably keep going, chapter 4 was the first time my character started feeling powerful on the first go around so I'm looking forward to the slaughter this time around.Not many new things were learned other than pumping strength as much as possible, no matter how inefficient paying 5LP for 1 STR seems it's worth it, strength is truly the only stat that matters on this entire page.

I'm not sure if I found a bug or exploit or it's supposed to work like that since tobacco blending and pipe smoking mechanics are confusing as fuck.In odyssey you can smoke pipe to gain permanent stats, str, dex, hp, mana, magic knowledge. Obviously strength is the best one and the double apple tobacco is the rarest one.Because this mechanic is stupid what you need to do is smoke 4 "filler" tobaccos and then smoke double apple as the 5th one to get the most out of it.Now it is possible to blend tobacco just like vanilla but there is a x10 option like with many crafting recipes.If you leave 1 apple tobacco in your inventory and select x10 option eg. with swampweed you get 10 weed tobaccos to be used as filler. If you have 10 apple tobaccos all 10 get consumed by the recipe which is probably the intended effect. Then again who the fuck knows, like albin's fish soup recipe creates 5 plates of fish soup out of 1 fish and that's intended. But there's no 10x option for double apple.I don't even know anymore, I'm exploiting it to the fullest extent available since this mod is bullshit anyway.

I think this is another bug I've been cleaning up orcs in khorinis and one of the orc shamans dropped a rune but runes are not supposed to exist in this game. Yes NPCs have them and you can obtain them through ice block glitch but that's clearly not intended for player use.It's circle 6 so I can't use it yet and the damage is low so it feels useless but maybe there's a catch.

Chapter four completed!I'm losing patience for this run seeing how somehow I have less XP in this run than in the last one so I'm getting sloppy with cleaning up all the maps but levels at this point don't really matter that much with me having 150+ spare learning points, there's just nothing to learn at this point.They're not actually that spare chapter 5 is shorter and will unlock a bunch of shit which includes circle 6 magic, language of the builders, dark magic and finally raising my 1h skill to 100% which should use up most of these points.Last run I've invested into crossbow which was a big mistake, magic is just plain better with improved small firestorm I was able to save myself a load of time by aoe'ing groups of enemies. Chapter 5 also provides artifacts(runes) of small firestorm and army of darkness which will greatly help in combat, only scrolls are available until this point. The combat is actually reasonable I stopped getting killed in two hits, and it only took more than 100 in game hours, woohoo!Not much really happens from here character growth wise, number goes up and I keep swinging the best available 1 handed sword until I get uriziel which you get at like the 98% completion mark.

Another not sure if bug, if you equip a 2h weapon first and then equip a shield you can have all the benefits of the shield while wielding 2h weapon. Shields suck in this mod they change your moveset and I think the second tier of shield parrying doesn't do anything, I still buy it because it's 3LP and there's nothing to spend them on. Don't know why it's called parrying either because you can't parry or block projectiles, arrows bolts or magic it doesn't do anything.I still doubt this is worth it over just the standard 1h setup but it makes the shield skill not utterly worthless like I thought previously.

Chapter five completed!Well that was fast, liberating Varant from the assassins was so easy I don't think I've even died once I feel really powerful at this moment, that resembles the last run, the mod stopped being painful on legendary around chapter 4.But what doesn't resemble last run is my level, last time I was three levels higher and I have no idea what did I miss. The game was patched since I last played but I won't dig into it as there is literally no more LPs to be spent. I've bought every skill and spell I need I maxed out all of my combat skills that I'm going to use and there's still like 30 more levels to get. In retrospect maybe more points should've been allocated to HP, but too late now I'm past the 1.5k hp cap.After 139 hours on the seas it's time to return home, to Athanos!

So i've finally completed the remake.It's unironically better than the Original. I can't think of a single thing it does work. Take Orcs for example. They're literally just high end mobs in the original. Now they've actually got their own language, more fleshed out lore and you can even learn Orcish that gives unique paths to quests. Shit like that is what i'm always hoping remakes to be. Keep the games core identity/gaming design which you yourself admit has remained, improve the weak aspects. The only people who will disagree are boomerchads still on XP

The amount of random shit you loot in Odyssey makes you hit the item inventory cap. That's right your bag isn't actually bottomless you can hold 1024 unique items in your inventory and by the endgame I reach it on a pretty regular basis and it's hard to tell what to sell even on second playthrough since some random asshole will suddenly need 12 boar leathers you acquired 4 chapters or 100 hours ago.

Chapter six completed!Well that was smooth, other than some quests breaking as usual with the available magic(small firestorm, rain of fire, army of darkness) I was able to wreck through literal hundreds of orcs like it was nothing. Last time I skipped most of valley of mines to get straight to chapter seven as I was burned out, this time I properly cleared it out and I didn't miss out on much.No real changes to the stat screen other than higher numbers and a whooping 548 unspent learning points, sheesh give me something to buy please. I will admit the build is pretty tightly optimized by this point as I've bought only the things I consider essential. The balance isn't great early on the stat points are very tight but later there's nothing to buy. If I had that mod that separate learning caps from permanent upgrades I'd just end up with at least 100 more strength but that's still pretty boring.Chapter seven is just Irdorath and I will almost certainly wrap up Odyssey today.
Odyssey completed!Number went up, that's all there's to say about stat page.Irdorath was a breeze but I still had to pull out uriziel for some mobs with 1250 armor value, that's all it's good for. Claw of beliar with lightning procs can replace it completely, once boosted that thing is a powerhouse so now I think that 2h in odyssey is completely worthless.The second run was definitely smoother than the first one but chapters 1-3 were still very hard while game turned way easy in chapters 4-7. The balancing is all over the place, I have no idea what the fuck were they thinking with the forest golem especially.I seriously doubt I have it in me to play this mod for the 3rd time and I'm no stranger to marathon length mods. The biggest thing that drags this mod down is quest design, even when I knew what to do from the first time somehow more quests bugged in more unexpected ways and the sense of unease you accidentally broke something that will lose hours of progress never goes away. Just for this alone odyssey will always remain a bad mod.Odyssey peaks with its map and level design, they're big fun maps to explore filled with secret caves and areas it's hard to find everything and it's a good thing. I do think this is the one aspect Odyssey is superior to Archolos but that's about it.Total playtime using in game timer is 190 hours, aside from the stat page I also gathered 400k gold and I have loads of shit in my inventory I could sell.That's it folks, hope you enjoyed the rambling as I have nowhere else to post this kind of stuff.

Just finished my first Gothic 1 playthrough, it has its charm and totally get why people love it but i dont think that game was better than Morrowind so many people claim nowadays. Its blatantly unfinished its so clear so many systems (alchemy, smithing etc) got axed, vanilla inventory management borderline unusable, might be the worst from any game i have ever played (thank god for mods). Combat is so janky i still could not get to controls right in final fights. I planned to do G1+2 but am not sure if i want to do continue anymore, is G2 big improvement over g1?

The thing I find strange in my playthrough is that I'm consistently 8-10 levels behind my enemies since reaching level 5 or so.Should I just be running around clearing every camp of enemies I can possibly fight, so they can start respwaning and I can fight the respwans?I just got my warder armour (obviously I completed it at once, money is super abundant in the remake) and I'm only level 12. Enemies where I go are usualy level 22-25

Playing Gothic 3 for the first time, is the desert really the best place to go after Myrtana? Feels wierd to not go after Xardas to get the main quest, but from what I gathered Nordmar is the harder place.
