>Heh, this Hero of Gothic doesn't even realize what rich and adventurous back story I ha-ACKHis last thoughts before you killed him for his overpowered one handed sword.Apologize.
>>3936125It's a great twist, but it retroactively ruins Archolos for me.
>>3936125It's honestly impressive how the Poles managed to make a named character with less personality than the Nameless hero.
>>3936125>mug him for his sword and crossbow in in the first chapterpunished Scar
>>3936132It was a shit twist>Here's how you fixed everything, good job hero>Also you get thrown into the barrier so we can railroad you one last timeI'm cool with fan canon being picked up in other mods, but this one is just bad.
>>3936137LelScar does have personality too. It's just nasty and brutish.>And I'm also making sure the women get their's, hahahaha
>>3936282>>Here's how you fixed everything, good job hero>>Also you get thrown into the barrier so we can railroad you one last timeI will never understand why people are butthurt about this. It's believable that a nobody rapidly gaining influence is bound to be noticed by the elites and either recruited or destroyed.
I think it's less weird than Raven, some literal nobody with no personality, becoming the main villain in NotR.
>>3936457Raven at least is a moderately bad guy becoming even worse. Scarvin is the hero becoming a villain.#notmymarvin
>>3937095Marvin killed his father and robbed his mother's grave. Sure, he is a nice person for most of the game but he is not crystal clear. Besides, fallen hero is a great trope.
Being able to kill really strong NPCs with super strong gear and lots of experience by yourself is incredibly immersion breaking.
Is Archolos worth playing if you're not Polish?
>>3937506I really really loved itthe main city is outrageously impressive, one of the best CRPG cities of all time
>>3937506Yes, there is a fair bit of replayability >Can join the Guard as a faction, they give you the option to specialize as either a crossbowman(unlike NoTR here it is very viable option) or 2 handed melee combatant>Trade guild(Araxos), bowman or 1 handed meleeeach specialization comes with their own quests tooor if you feel like ditching your faction, later on you can also go independent with unique armor and quests (plural it depends on the faction you ditched)you also have to make a choice between your professions>Butcher>Alchemist >Blacksmith >Carpenter (the "not thieves guild")>Bowmaker
>>3937095A decade goes by between Archolos and Gothic 1
>>3937541crossbow is plenty viable in NotRI can't remember if it was actually really good or just good enough to be viable because I did it like 10 years ago but I definitely did a crossbow run.
>>3936137>with less personality than the Nameless heroIn my language the Nameless hero had a lot of personality, though he had two fairly different personalities depending on the voice actor.
>>3937506Yeah sureIf you're russian or at least german
>game called Gothic>no cute Goth girls in it
>>3937643
>>3937671She doesn't look cute at all, she reminds me of "sexy babe.png" from those shitty German porn games in the 90s (like the Lula games or something)
>>3937692their file names all like babe_1, babe_2.
>>3937570>plenty viable as long as you skip all the crossbow training(meaning you won't hot anything that isn't right on front of you) to scrape together enough str and dex to use it and deal actual damage no, fuck that gay balance
>>3937707NTA but I think the crossbow was designed as a supplement for a melee-focused character, while the master sword was a supplement for an archer, so neither of them was supposed to be the core of one's build.
>>3937714in original Gothic 2 yesNotr removed that idea completely, there just isn't enough LPs to have a decent handling on crossbow in Archolos you can be okay swordsman and a master crossbowman, hell you can you can even wield high dex weapons and still train str and handling if you want to roleplay as duelist/spearmanNoTR's balance also destroyed paladin magic (it sucks dicks in the expansion)
>>3937737>Notr removed that idea completely, there just isn't enough LPs to have a decent handling on crossbowEh, I think you can do it if you use tablets and potions optimally.>NoTR's balance also destroyed paladin magic (it sucks dicks in the expansion)That part is true, the magic becomes more of a flavor rather than a tool.>in Archolos you can be okay swordsman and a master crossbowman, hell you can you can even wield high dex weapons and still train str and handling if you want to roleplay as duelist/spearmanMy Archolos build was bullshit. Had high STR and DEX, used one-handed DEX melee weapons, I had a crossbow (I didn't use it much, admittedly), and maxed out spell circles, although my mana pool was rather humble. It wasn't a problem, though, because I used the mana regen set.
I just played through Gothic 1. It was nauseating dogshit. The entire game had me running joyless errands. Nice jogging simulator for homosexuals. The end game swarmed me with hordes of enemies until it was unceremoniously over. My only other Gothic experience was 3 in 2006 which was garbage. I'm not holding my breath for 2. If 2 games so far were bad I'm not expecting a masterpiece from the most hyped of them.
I'm this anon's mom by the way >>3937987, his favorite games are Skyrim and Oblivion.
>>3938540LelI for one like both skyrim and gothic. They're just different games. But they both have great atmosphere (in different ways) and decent gameplay.
>>3937987"It's not for everyone" sounds condescending so I'll rephrase it in a coomer wayG1 is like a boobjob simulator. It still somewhat appeals to blowjob enjoyers but barely appeals to those who don't like foreplay much. You are right. About 65% of the game is just foreplay, 10% sex, and 25% just wanting to get it over with because you've had enough. This game does appeal to people who unironically enjoy the realistic approach to a fantasy realm i.e. you'd get rekt most of the time unless you tread lightly, make friends or learn 2 cheese.Getting to the point where you're no longer afraid of the woods, ruins and all the fags you put up with is very cathartic tho C4 onward is very barebones so I can see why people quit.>tl;drgreat game as a teen, horrible game as an adult unless you got lucky and have a non-crushing job
>>39379873rd is an absolute shit. 1st is bad. 2nd is the best of all and pretty good. Better than most rpgs today, but far away from games like witcher.I played 2nd 4 times, while rage quit the 3rd after 2 hours and player the 1st one because I was in a state of expecting something more because of the 2nd.
>>3939207I pulled the orcs and their dogs and lured them all the way into the castle. Probably the funniest shit I've seen since Skyrim.
>>3939683kek I had no idea you could do that, farthest I kited them was to Pedro or w/e his name was and he runs awayI did learn ledge archery to snipe most critters on the map, transforming into a raptor works too but you need to turn back human before you lvl up else you lose the HP boost
How hyped are you girls for the remake? Less than 3 months away! Sexy Diego? Possibly gay?
>>3940984Gothic 1 could be improved but everything I saw about the demake was a plain downgrade.
>>3940984Ill give it a pirate runAs long as it isn't full of memory leaks like ash and steelMy hopium is very low doe
>>3940984genuinely do not careteaser was atrocious Nyras demo suckedthey have learned nothing from the feedback all wrapped in a turd burrito that is Unreal Engine
>>3937707is it really that big a deal? I'm usually not that build autistic and I remember being like "yeah this is working really well" killing all the shit in the expansion with a crossbow. Maybe chapter 1 was hard, I can't remember.
>>3941034For Honor combat was not something Gothic needed.
>>3940984I actually bought 1st and 2nd game on gog to support the developers, after playing a pirated version decade ago. Rocky mistakes as all the rights were sold to a shitty company that produced a cringe remake video.
>>3940984They literally cant do shit past Gothic 3 fail after fail. THERE IS ZERO HOPE it would be good.
>>3941662The remake is not made by the same studio.
>>3936457They did it to fit the expansion's name
>>3936137>marvin in chapter 1sucky sucky five dorra any quest you want>marvin in chapter 6rip and tear, until it's done
>>3942009Other way roundAnd I'm ok with it. They wanted to make one of the old camp guys the bad guy, raven is an obvious choice. Gomez and Bartholo have dialogue where they start fights, they should be canonically dead. The rest are fair game, but Raven is more intelligent than Scar and Arto and not sympathetic like Thorus.
Where the FUCK is my GOTHIC CLASSIC REMASTERED on PS5????I swear to god, THQ are NIGGERS
>>3945904Nobody who likes Gothic cares about the shitty remaster. It's mainly aimed at people who didn't get into the series because they are too retarded to figure out the controls or get past the graphics.
I loved elex so I decided to give gothic a go. Its a bit shit so far. its god ugly and nothing has hooked me so far. maybe it is too old for me. which other bitey fish games should I try?
>>3945962Try Risen 1.
>>3945962G 2 is their best game by a mile and 1 must be played first1 has its problems but I thought the art grows on you soon enough, and with plugins it plays a lot better
>>3945904>console monkey>calls somebody else the n-word
Can someone convince me to give Gothic and Risen a chance? It feels like I may like them if I invest a lot of time into them, but I'm too burnt out from other games to commit.Honestly, based on this thread and the reviews I see, there's no way my casual gamer brain can stomach any of this: jank, controls, leveling system/learning points (barf!), and of course being treated like shit/fighting like shit the first half of the game until you can actually fight.... these games aren't for someone like me, are they? Can someone convince me that they're worth it?
>>3951121>Skyrim casual>Can someone convince me that they're worth it?No, fuck off.
>>3951121If you're still mentally flexible enough to learn a new combat system, try gothic 2 with a good mod (try archolos by all means). They fix the levelling system and make it fun. Gothic2 combat system is unusual, but interesting, tactical and skill-based.Gothic2 and archolos have a great atmosphere and interesting (if small) world, actually quite comparable to skyrim IMO.>fighting like shit the first half of the game until you can actually fightDon't know what you mean. Literally the first 2 levels worth of points any normal player spends is on getting the mid tier combat stance, which is perfectly usable. Fighting like a dork for the first two hours is part of the experience.
>>3937621but how can one enjoy gothic without german dub?
>>3940984qüq...if even piranha bytes couldnt make a proper gothic after 2, no one can. ryzen 1 and elex 1 were both decent but they were nowhere near any kino that happened in gothic 2. and even gothic 1 had its good moments. and for some fucking reason gothic 3 with all the fixes and community patches STILL runs like absolute dogshit on a modern rig.
>>3953182I think the latest AI tool can do german voices for archolos. Or you find someone to send you the taken down old AI voiceover. It was good.
>>3953187I've just finished replaying G3 last week and the game at least runs smoothly now, you need community patch, parallel universe patch, update pack, DXVK and 4gb patch. With all of these it's rock solid 60fps and load times are reasonable. The game's still kinda shit but for some reason I keep returning to it.
>>3953191It has a beautiful world, rewards you with loot and xp, makes you feel powerful when you liberate entire cities. Which is frankly most of what we want from an RPG in the first place.
>>3953191fuck me, hans, i will try again. but i feel like i did all those things 2 years ago when i last tried. lets do it again..
>>3953203From what I can tell it's either the parallel patch or DXVK doing the heavy lifting, there is some shader compilation stutters in first few minutes of entering a new area but past that It's been solid. There's also this G3CU tool that can uncompress textures but I haven't tried that didn't feel like it was necessary but if you run into problems you can try that as a last ditch effort.
>>3953208damn bro. you saved my beacon. it truly works now. flawless 60fps right from the bat. i cannot believe it. it is indeed dxvk that makes this a smooth experience! fuark...a "new" gothic...thanks, my man.

>>3970848That's obviously modded. There are no such hats in Gothic
Jorgenson just let slip that the head of the german vocalization project for archolos disappeared months ago. Others have taken over, but not all the data is available and progress has been lost. There's also some problem with ambient dialogue and speakers may have to be reassigned. So, bad news all around.
>>3970848Keep posting odysee anon. Disregarding the... special gameplay, it's quite interesting.
I didn't expect to see this guy he was that injured Orc in the New Camp Mine
>>3970848>>3971058>>3971090>>3971108How is this (gothic with Russian operation Z orcs) related to the mythical Greek Odyssey? I don't remember Odysseus shooting orcs with crossbows.
>>3971139Odysee (don't ask me for the correct spelling, I don't know) is a massive german mod where you're a royal soldier/sailor/paladin/hero who, among other things, travels to occupied khorinis and liberates it. It is massive, tedious and winding, so the name fits quite well. Now why someone would mod orcs into pejoratives for russians, I really don't know.
>>3970848>the crossbow deals damageWhat kind of baby mode difficulty is that?
>>3971148Not to mention those MMRPG damage number things. Disgusting. Antithetical to everything gothic.

>>3971148>Now why someone would mod orcs into pejoratives for russians, I really don't know.Orcs are used in combination with another pejorative for Russia as a whole - Mordor. Russian military is called "Orcs" for their disregard of their own and lack of basic morals they display when caught on camera. This was popularised after infamous Prigozhin's cannon fodder offensives.
>>3971777Orc at least is only racist against russians. Vatnig and Zigger are 4chan speak, where comparing someone to a black man is basically the worst conceivable insult.

>>3972393Mordor appears to take inspiration from WW1 battlefields. Which ironically russia has brought to ukraine now.

I recently replayed all 3 gothics, with comm patches and all.G1Legitimately has too much slow walking, is otherwise quite an easy game once you know what you're doing. Also use the animation hack to turn off pickup animations.G2 NOTRI beat it twice but I couldn't deviate to anything other than master sword to raven claw str stacking because everything else felt like bad damage. Also has too much walking. Also turn off the animations for pickups.G3Is actually much more pleasant to play if you're past G1 G2 first/second impressions. It's clearly not very well finished and much unlike G3 but it's very comfortable to play and the comm patch has many features to make it very convenient. If I had to play gothic again I'd pick 3, first two are very linear in terms of optimal play. But I also feel like anything other than magic is unplayable in G3, maybe str maxing and spin to win would work.
>>3973788Get a sprint mod for g1/g2 if that's your biggest gripe.
>>3973788>Legitimately has too much slow walkingSpamming acrobatics about as fast as using the sprint potion>anything other than master swordBows are legitimately amazing in NOTR>maybe str maxing and spin to win would workcorrect, it's the only reasonable alternative
>>3973807>Get a sprint mod for g1/g2 if that's your biggest gripe. It's not really about me, it's the game. It's slow - it's noticeable. That's just it. >>3973814>Spamming acrobatics about as fast as using the sprint potionG3 did it right, acrobatics just reduces fall damage which is legitimately useful in G3, other than that teleports everywhere. I know acro spam and speed potions but the early game is the problem - it's the largest chunk of the game and devoid of all these options.>>3973814>Bows are legitimately amazing in NOTRDo they not murder in duels? Are there no enemies immune to arrows? And how do you avoid being damaged?
>>3973823as a DEX faggot in G2 you can just finish off opponents in in melee or hell even use melee itselfMastersword (can be bought from Martin in Harbor or looted from thieves guild) gives +10 one handed skill, Betty (better dex sword from swamp bandit camp) gives +8 one handed skill with better damage so that's 20 or 18 one handed skillwith all tablets for one handed (+24 one handed skill) so that's 44 or 42 one handed skillMorgan's ring boosts another 10% one handed skill (now we are at 54 or 52)if you arrive at Khorinis Barracks around 5 AM you can get free training for +2 one handed skill for free (now 56 or 54)so you can spend an extra 4 or 6 LPs at the start and have 60 one handed skill with fastedt animation and okay chance to score full hit I'd say that is pretty generous for bow user to have a way to deal with melee duels
>>3973823>Do they not murder in duels?Yeah but how many duels are there, alrik and mercenaries and? If you can pick up rapier or master sword it's enough even with zero skill.
>>3973826>>3973882OK but what is the benefit of even doing bows? With melee you can win any difficult fight 1v1 because you have the most defence options, are there many cheese spots that make bows worth it for?
>>3973933>OK but what is the benefit of even doing bows?Bows don't have the non-hit/crit nonsense, you either miss doing 0 damage or hit doing 100% damage nothing in between. Bows also have decent range you can kill most enemies before they can even get to you without cheese spots. And obviously cheese spots exist, the obvious one is the battering ram near the castle in VoM.Bows cannot be parried dodged or blocked.Bows can go over 100% skill since skill determines range and not crit chance, not really worth it but you can go up to 120%.You can get more dex than str in NOTR, there's a limited amount of dragon roots but if you kill paladins in the city they have about 10% chance of dropping a goblin berry. It's possible to use all 25 king sorrels on dex potions. The weakness of a bow is that it's kind of all or nothing weapon, you either have the stats or you don't but it's not hard to get enough stats. Trolls are immune to bow attacks but that's barely a problem.Everything said applies to crossbows too, in Archolos crossbows are godlike since they also come with armor piercing on top of superior damage.

REMAKE releases in one month, probably the only pre-order so far, I'm buying it almost exclusively for the music composer returning to his OG masterpiece when he was 18tho I'm also intersted in the cut content
>>3980971Probably gonna buy it, not sure how much I will play it. I don't trust their combat system and that's a really major part of gothic. I don't trust them to get the atmosphere right either, I think they would be better served making a gothic2 remake in that regard (which, if the remake sells, they probably will).
>>3981224there's lots of gameplay on youtube now. combat seems okay-ish now? atmosphere is peak.for some reason, the german VA of the nameless hero really sucks, even though it's the same guy from the original. i'd chalk that up to bad direction though.
>>3981666He's 60 and plays a guy who the fans concluded to be 27.
>>3981707but that's not it though.he yells half the time when in the original he was pretty chill. the way he asks questions makes him sound like he's a little... slow in the head. in the original the hero asked questions like statements (in terms of intonation and pitch).it's not the color of his voice which has obviously changed. it's direction,
Eyo Mortismal Gaming said the remake is a slappin' banger he just doesn't want easy diff to be in the game, ong maybe we finna should try this game!?
>>3983203If there were milquetoast opinions awards that guy would be number fucking one.

Aw shit here we go again.
>>3986897Chance a guess: How many started odysee runs are actually finished? 2%? 1%?
>>3986897>picrelBased, I always go with Rolof to escape Helgen, too
>>3986997I finished my first run but this second one? I was enthusiastic but after 2-3 hours I remembered why I hated odyssey on my first go around.
Chapter one completed! Here's the stat page, you'll have to excuse the Polish but the translation is much better than the MTL garbage of the english version, if you played gothic you should figure out what's what. If not just ask.I've done all quests, killed everything that moves but up all the friendly npcs that i could minus the ship which got me one level higher than previously.I've had to compromise some things in the build because I didn't plan things properly, in ideal world my 1h skill would be 12% lower in exchange of 6 more strength but it doesn't matter THAT much.
>>3987825Is that 94 strength at level 12? Nice.Is that the end of the island athanos?
>>3988367>Is that 94 strength at level 12? Nice.>Is that the end of the island athanos?Yes to both.
Chapter two completed!Primarily for this run I wanted to avoid putting in any points into dexterity and I've spent 0LP on dex so far seeing how minimum amount for chapter 2 is 45 but that wasn't such a good idea. At 60 dex there's a better sword in Tamora as well as a bunch of level 2 lockpick chests which I couldn't open. I can return to all of them later in chapter 4 but that's still kind of ass. If there's ever a 3rd go I'll be aiming to hit 60 dex by chapter 2.Tamora is still a major pain with everything killing me in 1 or 2 hits but there's no avoiding it, there's simply no LP available to spend on HP. You gain 0 HP per level in odyssey so current HP is from life elixirs only. One thing I didn't realize is that you can learn all the triple jewelery and armor upgrades in chapter 2 maybe they're worth it earlier on it's something to experiment with.
>>3988911Keep posting anon.
>>3940984I was impressed by the artstyle, it does actually feel like a gothic game.
How's opengothic?
>>3940984I'm kinda looking forward to it, kinda feeling worried it'll fuck something up really badFrom what I've seen there's a fire mage in the outer ring of the old camp that teaches magic, and I hope he's only there for the demo all the influencers got so they can show off magic.Mages being elitist dicks, acutal CHOSEN OF THE GODS is their entire shtick. Having to work to get access to rune magic is the entire fucking point. They're not street performers that sell their divine art to the first random criminal with a fat ore purse. If the devs want magic to be more accessible at the start they should just place more scrolls to find in the world, or maybe have magic scroll making as a cheap early skill. Not to mention that they'll have to come up with some bullshit reason why you can't just give the letter to him.
Realistically speaking, is this game bigger in East Germany, Poland or Rassiya?
>>3989055It think they will fuck up the game but the fire mage could have extremely easy explanations, for example>he's a novice, but he's fallen out of favor because [insert reason] so maybe you can trade him the letter in exchange for early training instead of the usual rewardsDone.Aso, it's not like early runes are powerful, so even assuming a 1:1 interpretation of magic (which I doubt) getting the first circle in chapter 1 changes basically nothing. Hell, in the original game you can get Fireball/Fist of Wind/Ice Block during chapter one WITHOUT learning magic circles.
>>3989103I think it's most popular in poland, relatively speaking.
>>3988976I fucked something up in the khorinis infiltration questline and I have to redo at least 3 hours of gameplay. This mod has the most anxiety inducing quest design, possibly ever.
Disregard above I'm just retarded and I equipped Slave CLOTHING instead of slave BAND which are two totally different armors. God I hate this mod why did I decide to replay it.
>>3990587From what I've seen, it has some very nice maps. I think if it had more forgiving quest design and maybe stopped after khorinis, it could be a real classic.
>>3989242Is this a magic spell?
>>3990611>From what I've seen, it has some very nice maps.It does, that's likely the best part.
>>3989242btw Ben Franklin confirmed that this is how original Germans lookedonly the rich pedophile Germans were white (pink)
>>3990565I quit in Khorinis, at some point jerman autism gets to youfor some reason devs decided leave breadcrumb quests for next chapter which you cannot complete just yet because fuck you, get confusedyour goal is getting miners for that faggot Baron and for his mines along with ore chests (please disregard the other 20 quests in your journal clogging up the space)surprise all miners are in the most obscure places imaginable, like literally where you would think easter eggs should beand what fuck was the point of that Dark Souls dungeon with in lava cave and skeletal archers? I killed them, but my escort npcs still couldn't pathfind and died like bitches
>>3991000>the point of that Dark Souls dungeon with in lava cave and skeletal archers?Well there's multiple things going for it1. It's the path to the diggers as you know, you don't really have to escort them or clear the cave, after talking to the digger leader teleport to fishing village sleep until next day and they'll make it2. There's a chest with +15 str potion, well it's the same thing as in irdorath in base game but you'd never go dex in this mod at least not on legendary3. There's a quest to find mirror shield or something which is scattered around the cave, you need to do bunch of acrobatics tricks to get there, it's for chapter 4 or 5 you can never equip the shield itself at least I couldn't find a way4. It's the first place with obsidian to upgrade armor or weapons5. Fire golems for the ghost admiral quest6. Past diggers and ogre stone circle there's also alternate entrance to JharkendarSo yeah and it looks cool and is pretty fun to explore
>>3991000Reading something like this makes me glad I dropped odysee on the starting island when I got a MMO tier quest of killing like 60 scavengers
>>3991058Quests in odyssey can be more tedious than in mmos, ever had to tend to crops and grow tomatoes by yourself? Watering, planting, harvesting, everything done manually one by one. And it'd be hard to skip it since tomatoes are really valuable. My first run of odyssey took like 230 hours of in game time, probably far longer since that doesn't account for all the deaths and reloads. It's a marathon and a half and the first island? That's maybe 15 hours.
>>3971777You now remember that there's a Russian officially printed fanfiction of LotR that says the orcs are actually the good guys
Chapter three completed!I really should just stop playing here because I more or less satisfied my curiosity about early game inefficiencies of the first run. By chapter four I figured out pretty much every optimization technique and how things work in this mod. That said even if you optimize your character to the limit the mod is still bullshit on legendary difficulty with me barely being able to pierce shadowbeast and forest golem armor at the very end of chapter 3 and those fuckers start showing up a whole chapter ago. Legendary = 5 damage mode simulator. But I'll probably keep going, chapter 4 was the first time my character started feeling powerful on the first go around so I'm looking forward to the slaughter this time around. Not many new things were learned other than pumping strength as much as possible, no matter how inefficient paying 5LP for 1 STR seems it's worth it, strength is truly the only stat that matters on this entire page.
>>3991515I saw Jorgenson play it, and it's really interesting to contrast odysee with archolos:-In archolos, learning point cost and bonuses are decoupled. Which means you can take bonuses early and levelling is rewarding for much longer. In odysee, it's coupled like in vanilla notr. Many mods have changed that in a similar way.-In archolos, at least to my memory, bonuses were often in obvious places that you would go to anyway (or just for sale), and the telekinesis spell worked like a searchlight. So they were easier to find and harder to miss. In odysee, again from what I've seen, you need to really search the map. Some people like that I guess, but I just find it tedious.-Archolos difficulty is such that even very imperfect play allows you to finish it without too much hassle. Odysee apparently requires a completionist approach (which notr arguably did already). All this combines to make archolos much more accessible than odysee. IMO the archolos approach is much better, and if completionists become overpowered, let them. What I would really find interesting though is a more complex approach to levelling and learning. For example, I would make it such that different sources of power would be individually capped, but combine to make you powerful. Like, potions and stone tablets only work so much, then you need another power up. Teachers could only teach you a few levels, then you'd have to find another teacher. The highest levels or special perks would be available only from very few sources, like master trainers, very rare books, or lots of grinding. I.e. make it easier to
>>3991759>-In archolos, learning point cost and bonuses are decoupled.I used to believe that this is universally a good thing but one youtube guy has pointed out this makes the game a bit too easy since you can start dumping points right away. Archolos is already an easy mod but even I'll admit the whole 29>34 bs is bs. Decoupling is a step in the right direction but it's not the final solution.>Odysee apparently requires a completionist approach (which notr arguably did already). As a baseline you're meant to kill everything that moves minus friendly npcs and do all the quests and then you can barely survive in the next chapter. It's by design, I think most gothic players play like this anyway so I don't mind this.>All this combines to make archolos much more accessible than odysee.Archolos is the better mod no doubt, they thought of many things and I can think of only one major flaw that is dying in cutscenes by picking a wrong dialogue line, that shit is inexcusable. The biggest problem with Odyssey is its quest design, the game has no flex at all it expects you to do things in the exact right order and any deviation can break the quest leaving you softlocked. For example in chapter 2 there's a quest where you need a blessed sword, if you bless the sword before asking the mage where's an innos shrine which you probably already visited that's it the quest is now stuck and you bricked the main quest. And there's dozens of instances like that, you have to tip toe around every quest. If quest log says you SHOULDN'T do something it means you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT. The game does warn you quite a bit you're about to brick your progress but there has to be a better way.
>>3991835If instant power ups make the game too easy, you can keep them behind higher hurdles. The problem with coupling is that difficulty rises as you still level with learning points, then suddenly drops when you take all the power ups.>kill everything that moves minus friendly npcs and do all the quests and then you can barely survive in the next chapterAnd find all the plants and potions and shit. That's how it works in notr anyway.
>>3991855>And find all the plantsDon't know if this is hot take but I never like this aspect of gothic 2, finding a green plant on green background sucks. At least archolos replaced the models for the stat boosting plants to stand out a bit but in the base game I honestly can't tell the difference between king's sorrel and the 580035924th healing plant.you pick up and never use.
>>3991920I never had this problem, I always found them very easy to distinguish even as a kid. My problem was my dumb ass just eating them straight away.
>>3940984I wait and see if they have anything else "modernized"I know they fixed the women, but what else did they do to pander to the "modern audience"?>Sexy Diego? Possibly gay?So I wasn't the only one who saw the piercing on his right ear
>>3992024>piercingare you actually, genuinely retarded? the fucking developers of the original wore piercings you internet poisoned dumbfuck. do you seriously believe piercing ears is only for women and gay men? fucking troglodyte. kill yourself.

>>3992341You have to go where Skip was in the vanilla game, there's some people there who tell you to free the lighthouse from orcs and save people from sewers. Should be pretty clear what to do from there.

>>3992342glad to see transformations are better

>>3992353glad to see transformations are better
>>3992353that's actually worrying, because that just shows they don't seem to care that much about getting NPCs right
>>3992394Lee became basically a meme among the german community for looking like a scrawny, juvenile bandit, not an established general.
>>3992395It's really strange they couldn't get him right, especially since he's one of the NPCs with a unique face in the original game. He's a gruff grey haired older ex general. It's not a hard archetype to do yet they made him some whimp.
I'm not sure if I found a bug or exploit or it's supposed to work like that since tobacco blending and pipe smoking mechanics are confusing as fuck.In odyssey you can smoke pipe to gain permanent stats, str, dex, hp, mana, magic knowledge. Obviously strength is the best one and the double apple tobacco is the rarest one.Because this mechanic is stupid what you need to do is smoke 4 "filler" tobaccos and then smoke double apple as the 5th one to get the most out of it.Now it is possible to blend tobacco just like vanilla but there is a x10 option like with many crafting recipes. If you leave 1 apple tobacco in your inventory and select x10 option eg. with swampweed you get 10 weed tobaccos to be used as filler. If you have 10 apple tobaccos all 10 get consumed by the recipe which is probably the intended effect. Then again who the fuck knows, like albin's fish soup recipe creates 5 plates of fish soup out of 1 fish and that's intended. But there's no 10x option for double apple.I don't even know anymore, I'm exploiting it to the fullest extent available since this mod is bullshit anyway.
>>3992395Post the meme.
Transformation scrolls can be really good in Odyssey. For reference these lions would kill me in two hits and take like 10+ hits to be killed, using this scroll saved probably like 15-20 minutes of fighting.Just never ever loot anything when transformed or it's lost forever.
on normal mode odyssey how hard do you need to minmax
>>3992839Never played normal but relative to legendary on normal enemies should deal 40% less damage and have 25% less armor. There are also more rewards on lower difficulty levels, chests and vendors will have better loot and better armor sets you can buy earlier. There are also special skills you can buy on normal, weapon master and sniper which should help too I don't know how do they work since they're not available on legendary.Overall I'd expect the difficulty level to be somewhat harder than NOTR but not by that much.
i just hate notr style difficulty. I hate alchemy. I dont mind buying hp with LP but I hate the reliance on perma stat potions.
>>3992844they overshot the training costs a bit in Notryou can of course beat the game but it leaves a sour taste in some cases (mages either need to rely on summons or go hybrid, crossbow is plain bad)I am yet to see anyone trying to balance the costs properly by capping them earliereither use https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3313481984 you can set your own LP / level gainedorhttps://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3048470081, solves the hoarding problem
>>3992850oh i meant in the Odyssey mod. I hate alchemy I feel like its required due to the stat inflation. It takes notr and puts it into overdrive
>>3992851>the stat inflationYou start the game with 10 str 10 dex 30 hp, I finished the game with like 1000 str 400 dex 5000 hp. Roland makes nameless hero look like a little bitch.
>>3992735His whole model is a fucking meme.
>>3992869so do you think i could beat the mod on easy/normal without spending lp on perma potions?
>>3992899Probably not, the mod is very much designed around you gaining a boatload of permanent stats from all sorts of sources, not just potions there's food, stone tablets, books etc.It would be a challenge run even on easy which should have half the enemy stats of normal.
>>3992906what island should be the point i start saving up LP for perma recipe? Khorinis?
>>3992934No, should be earlier than that I buy it sometime in chapter 2 the mage on the ship will teach you elixir of strength.
>>3992892I dunno, he looks like a chad general on the left.
>>3992942That is... the point anon.

Gothic 3 is good.
>>3992991reminder this game is coming to consoles
>>3992992>Gothic 3 CLASSICthere's no way it will get a remake, right?
>>3993233I hope it does, not because of any desire to play it purely because it will be another Unreal 5 shitshow.it will make the launch version of G3 look like an optimized master piece(it ran like shit on most PCs when it was released).
what if gothic remake is super successful
>>3993233You'd have to remake it from scratch. The whole design philosophy is fucked and so is the story.
>>3992992>it's dangerous to ponder alone. take this
>>3992992what if they fix the stuttters, fps and loading but only in the console version's source code and never port it to pPC
>>3993247>The whole design philosophy is fucked and so is the story. Is it? G3 is peak open world slop, not that far off from TES.
>>3993252TES is structured very differently. TES is a multiple lap race around the same course while Gothic 3 is a marathon. You leave everything you've done at a place behind forever. The open world is unnecessary.
>>3993254It's a comfy simulator of a traveler. They definitely had a correct direction during the development, but not nearly enough time and budget to make a good game.
I want to see a big gothic 3 total conversion like archolos
>>3993282G3 is a fundamentally disfunctional game, it doesn't work as a base for something else.
>>3974157Reminder this guy had lockpicking by default originally, so he was in fact a thief and deserved to be there.
>>3993343not the reason in G3 King Rhobar the Retarded himself states that he threw our nameless hero there because Innos gave him a visionand if by some miracle you ever played Forsaken Gods, game outright tells you nameless hero is in fact Rhobar the III son of Rhobar the Retarded
>>3993347I'm glad I've never played G3 and avoided this nonsense.
>>3993347Gothic 3 is not canon
>>3993360it is, the only retconned game is Arcania according to the devs
>>3993360>Gothic 3 is not canonso? the lore of these games is worthless anyway
>>3993364since Gothic 3 yeah
>>3993381G1 and g2 lore was deep as a puddle, and inconsistent between 1 and 2 anyway. The have to redo at least beliar and his role in either 1 or 2 (if a g2 remake is to exist). As for gothic3, the lore was utterly unfitting to 1/2. And I do not hope for a straight remake because the map would have the same problems as before. If they want to remake gothic3, set it up like odysee where you visit disjointed regions that are realistic and fully fleshed out by themselves, and make up an entirely new story. It can maintain the basic premise (xardas wants to shut out the gods from the world) but should make far more reference to previous game lore and not pull that ominous old people and the flood out of its ass.
>>3993391The lore was perfectly fine for G1/2, we didn't need 200 books nobody reads about what the gods ate for breakfast like in TES. It was perfectly content with going with what was necessary and nothing else. The inconsistencies were inconsequential and could be explained by bad info. It was a prison away from the outside, they didn't know what was going on. G3s lore is just ignoring literally everything that was established except for the fact there is a place called Myrthana and they are at war with Orcs. That was everything they didn't just retcon.
>>3993392There are literal books in Gothic1 that directly contradict gothic2 on beliar.
>>3993393Note also the retconned words of the vow of fire.>Until my spirit enters Beliars realm>Until my spirit enters Innos' holy hallsBeliar was not supposed to be satan in gothic1, he was supposed to be hades.
just be glad the original G2 plotline never materialized>Hero banishes the Sleeper in his Temple at the end of G1>barrier and unleashed magic however fucks up the rest of the world>demons are assraping everyone >King and his daughter travel to Valley of the Mines to investigate and for safety >Wildlife in the valley is mutated (originally the Grassland Scavengers were part of that demonic infestation)
>>3993403The late WW2 feeling of gothic2 was bad enough for me, don't need a full on apocalypse on top. Especially not one you the hero are responsible for. I guess they recycled that idea for risen.
>>3993403Honestly it would make for a cool what-if scenario addon, maybe as a DLC if the remake is a hit
>>3993441If the remake is a hit, they should and would make a gothic2 remake. If it is not, a gothic sequel addon on the same map might be a low cost alternative.
>>3993443I wouldn't really mind not getting a NotR remake. It's just a much more complete game than G1
The new intro is genuinely shockingly bad
>>3993917I don't get why they felt the need to add a random action sequence of some dude dabbing on the orcs
>>3993923They think this is what modern audiences demand.
Please don't tell me you guys actually expect the remake to be good.
>>3993934Not with that UI, it's always a good tell if the game is worth playing.
>>3993934I just hope the gameplay is servicable. I got no expectations that a bunch of Spanish millenial devs for hire understand Gothic.
>>3993934Of course not. I hope it renews interest in Gothic and even more cool G1 and 2 mods come out.
>>3993917>Gothic3 World Map, eww>Weird double axe halberd thingy (but I guess weird double axes were always gothic, stupid though they are)>Armor is neither gothic2 paladin armor nor gothic1 guard armor, but ok>Bodo Henkel german voice is flat, without the gravitas of the gothic1 intro>Hollywood style unorganized battlefield scene>Random fire and explosions>Random soldier slaughters orcs>Orc just rips whole body in half>Hold on, that war seems to be pretty even>Mine scene is kinda ok>All Mages in the center... shouldn't they be at the focus places?>Rest is decentYeaaah.
