It's Monday once again. What monster collecting or monster raising games have you been playing? What upcoming ones are you looking forward to?
>>
>>3949912
How is mhs3? I want to buy it and play it when I have some time.

I just finished a run of Black 2. Got bored of the post-game trying to get a Sunkern. I'm about to start a Platinum.

I love Maya so much.

God, I want to be dead soon.

That's what the 6 month long thread was probably thinking
>>
>>3949973
Okay, man. I get it.
>>
>>3949964
2030 is coming soon brother.
>>
The Aethermancer update came out. Both of the new monsters are pretty neat and I'm very fond of Dullahan as I love status teams, I've had amazing success paring him up with Medusa. Still figuring out the Alchemist class, I've had some fun mixing up monster types and elements but I'm not sure when I'd ever change a signature trait.
>>
>>3949994
I still need to play it but I probably won't get around to it until after I beat Stories 3.

Does the new game have any good shotas to continue the franchise tradition?

There's Kol but that's about it in terms of important NPCs. Unless you count the flashbacks showing the male protag as a young kid.

Currently torn between Digimon Time Stranger and MH Stories 3, both seem like pretty big games and they're about as much as I'm willing to pay on a key site so will probably only get one for now
Any opinions on either? I know Digimon has been out for a while
>>
>>3950229
Digimon is getting a big update DLC in 2027
>>
>>3950109
its kinda hard to get into a gameboy game in 2026 even though the gameboy version is my favourite gaem of all time. glad you gave that version a try. its crazy that they never got this over seas. its such a great game.
do you play on emulator? because this one and more often dqm2 3d got notorious problems on never versions of citra.
>>
>>3950229
That's a tough choice honestly.
I think Digimon would generally last you longer, having multiple difficulty options and longer main story not counting side content.
Stories 3 I think has a more satisfying gameplay loop, which more noteworthy challenges throughout. But if you don't do optional content it is shorter.
>>3950250
This is true. Though from what I've heard, data-mining has confirmed Stories 3 is also getting big content updates in the future too.
>>

Just finished Stories 3.
God damn is it good. 9/10, genuinely so close to being perfect and missing just a few things with a couple design hiccups that make it miss that mark.
Final team. Finished with everyone at level 70-71. Final few fights managed to be genuinely challenging.
>>
sad that it looks like we're not getting any crit, regen, or summon-types for the next aethermancer area

Does having Dual mono element actually increase the STAB by two?
>>
>>3950932
From what I've heard, no. But it actually improves a monster's base weaknesses. Espinas for example has 2 arrows of weakness against Ice. But the Dual Fire Espinas only has 1 arrow of weakness against it.
From what I know this is consistent across the board.
>>
>>3950595
The worst ofender is not being able to remove rathalos from the party. Imagine the backlash if digimon time stranger had agumon forced in the party or pokemon required you to have charizard in the party
>>
>>3950960
It's kind of baffling they did it for a third time. But without a post-game (yet) Ratha is genuinely stuck there taking a party slot. If they absolutely HAVE to have the forced Rathalos, they could've at least made him take up essentially a non-essential/guest slot like Aegiomon does in Time Stranger.

And having finished the story, the super special Rathalos in his game feels especially tacked on and forced given how insanely unimportant it is for like 90% of the game. At least in Stories 2 the story genuinely centered around that super special Rathalos at basically every major plot beat.

>>
>>3950968
Duals from other elements can still improve weaknesses if it's the right one pretty sure.
Plus they do get the natural STAB for that element, and can make fishing for battle passives that have other elements as requirements have more benefits by boosting that element too.

I'm playing Pokemon Clover. It's as good as I remember it. I'm about to start Ebin Islands.
I was going to change Ignut for Flower but will'o wisp is too useful. I'm surely going to change Caroline for Toxiraptor. Probably Vaultevour for Lankong if I can't find something cooler than a monke.

Argh, I wish I could remove Ratha for a 6th slot. Too many cool monsties are dragons with no exploration abilities beyond flying so half my team is redundant.
>>
Narwa and Ibushi in MHS3 are so much harder than everything in the game it's nuts. I repelled them and beat them across two fights at around their level but didn't manage to kill them in one encounter until level 99.

>>
>>3949912
Whats the best in the series to play? Should i start with 1 or is 3 new and improved?
>>
>>3959925
If you're only going to play one, play 3.
If you want to eventually play them all, I'd say go in order, because the improvements made each game makes it increasingly harder to go back to the older ones.
>>
>>3959925
1 is my favourite, especially in the post-game, but it is rough to go back to after how gene inheritance has been streamlined from game to game. Extremely grindy compared to 2 or 3.
2 I'm really not a fan of. It's fine once you roll credits but it's the most on-rails, handholdy JRPG I've ever played until then. Endlessly frustrating to be thrown into big, open areas, walk towards something interesting, and have an NPC go "where are you going? It's this way!" because the game wants you to visit every point of interest in the order it has chosen for you.
3 is extremely polished and improves on the core mechanics in pretty much every way, but has no post-game content and a smallish monster roster.

I don't even know what the fuck Level-5 is doing anymore. It looks like basically just another Yo-Kai Watch but with different characters and designs.
And jesus christ the model downgrade from the reveal trailer to this is insane. These better just be placeholders.

I've been playing Coromon. It gets boring pretty fast so I'm taking long breaks in between.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 is really fun and I love it that is makes me think a lot about creating different combinations of teams and equipment.

Anything to get me away from Pokemon.

Any other recommendations are welcome. Something with a challenge preferably.
>>

>Anything to get me away from Pokemon
Pokemon is still the best one, but I can agree with this feeling

>>
>>3964040
Cassette Beasts is decently challenging but you need to adjust the challenge options. It's also kind of open-worldish. Some don't like the monster designs but even if they are nothing groundbreaking and their concepts are beyond overdone, they are ahead from most indie monggers (yeah it's that bad). The trainer designs are beyond crap, even those that aren't woke shit. If you care about pretty girls, there's one that's just ok and another one that almost never appears.

WoFF is kind of mechanically weird but it's got money on it and good monsters.

SMT Strange Journey is my favorite SMT. If you want something different from Pokemon that's the way.

Dragon Quest Monsters is similar to SMT mechanically but with a Toriyama coat of painting. I like MJ3P(serious recolor problem), Coby and Tara for 3DS and Dark Prince. I don't like the DS ones but that's just me.

Medabots is interesting but it's got some serious flaws like small maps with high to very high encounter rate. Medabots 3 for GBC has got the lowest encounter rate and an strange final boss. The PSX one is cancer.

I would be lying if I tell you that Digimon games are worse than any game that I already mentioned but I don't like them. Maybe because I really like Digimon so I expect too much from it.
>>
>>3964148
Oh wait no. Devil Survivor is my favorite SMT. Strange Journey is second.
>>
>>3964148
>Cassette Beasts is decently challenging
It's only really hard if you play fair. The actual gameplay when you try to abuse it has absurd things like turn 0 wins against even the postgame super and challenge bosses. The battle system is very fun if you play it "normally" though.
>>
>>3964530
I can't cheese shit without guides so I played it normally too.
>>

This game had a pretty good battle system until I discovered a broken move that beats 95% of enemies without much resistance. Sadly, Im not the type who likes to hold back and limit myself on purpose so the game is mostly ruined now for me. A shame.
>>
>>3964740
You don't really need to know how. It's kind of like Elden Ring in that you'll definitely stumble into something ridiculously strong unless you're trying not to. Like once you learn that walls block any instance of damage at all and that if they miss/get blocked skills don't apply status effects then every single Archangel fight becomes easy with one skill and that's just a basic mechanic.
>>
>>3964851
>you'll definitely stumble into something ridiculously strong unless you're trying not to.
That's common for plenty of games. Even those that try to be balanced. Monster taming games are not known to be the pinnacle of the genre so one knows to expect something like that beforehand.

I think I used walls but I didn't feel that they were that broken. Those were like substitutes I think. I'm pretty bad at games anyways.

Its the 7 second Confusion.
>>
>>3965096
i think that's the same dragon, but i could be forgetting another one that had a long confusion effect
>>
>>3965111
It was just from Raven, who you get super early. I noticed it was broken quickly, but it didn't become self-sufficient and infinitely castable until my Agility got high enough. Or just using the trinket that increases the duration to 12 seconds.
>>
>>3965114
oh, huh
i was thinking of vemonrosa, which uses a whole skill rotation to lock the enemy out and you get at like early-midgame
>>

Im sure theres definitely more broken combos than just the Raven confuse then spam the all stat up and down thing, I just noticed Ravens the fastest is all.

They are both Toriyama faced dudes. One is angry Gohan and the other one is some sort of Trunks. They're both serviceable.
Tori's style peaked on DQ4 and DBZ anyways.
>>3966798
Everything is important. Humans are another face of the game and faces need to look good.
And I think humans should be designed in a certain way. If they are too cartoony or weird themselves, it undermines the monstrous aspects of the monsters. It needs to be perfectly clear who's the human and who's the monster.

I mean, it's up to each one but the more shitty things you put in the game, the less people will be inclined to play it. It's not rocket science.

We don't know how the battle system works either yet.
Why can't they actually just use a different artstyle, ex. make them lovecraftian/grotesque monsters instead of trying to ape Pokemon's kiddy audience? This was made for the old compfags after all.
>>
>>3974551
I mean, Pokemon's audience is in no small part a bunch of manchildren.
It's an unfortunate truth that most of the time indie Mon games only get significant traction if they appeal to the Pokemon crowd. Plus given it's focus on customization/modding, it's basically selling itself as a

I'm liking it, but it's no Monster Sanctuary. There's practically no team building, since due to breeding you can get any type, attacks, passives and stats on any monster, and you can also change your type mid battle if the enemy has a attack that you're weak against. As an example here's an early game monster that through breeding has mid-late game stat growth, and attacks for all types. It has been very free of bugs though.

>Actually there is a lot of grind, especially on higher difficulties.
>Story is better than Monster Crown, but it's an edgefest trying to imitate SMT. Granted, some story beats are pretty good and some side quests are amazing.

Possible cons for some people.
>The game is intentionally cryptic.
>Big open world, with overworld mobs are worth pitiful amounts of exp. You'll mostly be living in dungeons to grind.
>Sandbox aspect may be frustrating to players used to having objectives and directions.

They are fine, Dawn and Dusk are a bit grindy and have huge mazes easy to get lost.
These issues were mostly aleviater in Lost Evolution but they introduced a new one because fuck you why not : evolution plated.
Now you need to find the "lost evolutions" and play a touchscreen minigame to clean them under a time limit, its a fucking headache.
Tip: just cheat, find cheatcodes online to give yourself infinite time and clean the plates at your own pace, if you are ok with that you will have a pretty decent game

the best thing about the DS digimon games is the sprite art

there was a fan-project of remaking D/D with a bunch of new digis but i guess it went nowhere

The isometric maps are nice too.
It's like Megaman Battle Network but as a monster tamer game.
>>
>>3983040
But Megaman BN was fun.
>>
Does anybody here like the tournament aspect of Monster Rancher? What would you change about it?
>>
>>3983406
I like that its default is the round robin. Honestly, the only thing I would change is adding fights outside the tourneys. So if you're low on money, want to grind an attack, or are testing something out, you don't need to wait.
>>
>>3983053
World DS, Dawn/Dusk was fun too, but I do think the dungeons and areas could have had more things to do.
MMBN was nice but I prefer Turn based RPGs.
>>
>>3983539
I disagree immensely. I think the battles in the DS story games were phoned in, and the BN battle system was one of the best.
>>
>>3983675
Like I said, "I prefer turn based RPGs" is a disclaimer, I think those games could've been done better.
But even so I still believe the Story games had structure and consistency that other Digimon games fail to replicate.
>>
>>3982113
>>3982232
I thought it was fine. Nothing spectacular, but better than the first two games. Not that that's exactly a high bar, but still.
In general though story is the last thing I look for when it comes to Mon games, it's pretty consistently the genre's weakest aspect, more than likely because it's harder to make specific narratives out of extremely customizable/interchangeable parties.
>>
>>3983790
call me crazy but i expect the story to be good in a story game.
>>
>>3983795
Fair enough. I just know where to set my expectations when it comes to this genre specifically.
I will say that probably the strongest aspect of the story was the ending, delivering on the tragedy of that situation effectively.
>>

shame the game wasn't better received. there would have been more lewds of your kouhai

>>3983799

Huh? It was widely praised. Monster Hunter in general just isn't really a franchise that gets that kind of art because people like the monsters more than the humans.
>>
>>3983805
>the franchise doesn't get that kind of art
is this a lie? let me check briefly...
>there are two hundred monster hunter doujins on nhentai translated into english
>and over 26,000 results for monster hunter on rule34.
>this is a similar amount to re:zero (27000), elden ring (26000), and around as much as every zelda game combined (32000), notably more than double botw (10000).
you are hallucinating like an ai chatbot
>>
>>3983805

>>
>>3983808
And how many of those pics are for the monsters? Y'know, the point that I made that people care more about the monsters than the humans?
I never said MH doesn't get ANY porn, just that, compared to other franchises, it doesn't have that same kind of appeal. Hence the 'in general' before the 'doesn't get that kind of art.'
>>3983825
I used to but stopped going once the World vs Rise cancer completely overtook any discussion. Also all that spawned almost exclusively post-World. You get the occasional piece here and ther from gens 1-4, but stuff like nude mods and whatnot didn't exist until World.
>>
>>3983827
>how many [lewds] are for the monsters
why didn't you check?
of course it's basically zero. have you played the games? they are grotesque and bestial.
why are you like this. you make stuff up, then you make more stuff up, do you ever connect to reality?

anyway, it's a shame the game wasn't better received. you can check how well a game is received by looking at the amount of art made for it. in the case of monster hunter 3, there is basically no art let alone lewds.
it's actually a pretty interesting metric, because as measured by this, wilds was not very well received either. it sold a lot of copies, but with that many copies it has a lot fewer lewds than expected.
>>
>>3984769
>they are grotesque and bestial.
to clarify, i mean the monsters in monster hunter stories 3 are such.
it is not like pokemon where they are humanoid or cute, the monsters in mhs3 look like dinosaurs.
of course all of the content is about the humans, elves, and the weird cat onahole thing
>>
>>3984769
>>3984770
I don't bother checking because people can't tag for shit. Trying to filter out humans and first page human characters are still showing up.
Also your point about Wilds is especially stupid because out of the 26000 result for MH, 2900 are for Wilds. That's over 10% of the results coming from the newest entry. It's also more than Rise (2700) and almost DOUBLE of World (1800), aka the newfag holy ground for MH.

So not only is your entire premise of 'porn = well received' retarded, your example to try and prove it is factually wrong.
btw out of the first 10 result for the MH tag, 6 of them are of monsters, and 2 or of felynes. You're double wrong about people not wanting to lewd the monsters.

Playing through Touhou Artificial Dreams in Arcadia. I know SMT is all about killing your darlings but the 'mon churn is pretty insane in this one. >Dawn and Dusk are a bit grindy and have huge mazes easy to get lost.
I really never understood the main complaints about the Digimon Story games. Almost all of the grind in the DS games was back loaded to things that most people probably didn't even do, it was only ever the postgame content and specifically the final boss of the first World DS game that needed anything more than normal progression. The maps too are very simple dungeons like pic related, despite people trying to paint them like they are obscenely large dungeon crawler mazes.

Digimon discussion online is always strange like that, I suppose. It always feel like the criticism from people only comes from those who don't play them much or refuse to engage with any of the combat mechanics so they had to rely on grinding. Not just for Story either, World cops so much as well. Like how with Time Stranger you had tons of people complaining about how easy it was only to find out that they've been abusing the farm mechanics by grinding money, grinding scan data intentionally or using bugs like the broken health personality skill.

Played the https://store.steampowered.com/app/2261430/LumenTale_Memories_of_Trey/ demo. Not all the way to the end but about an hour.
Was interesting although it lacks QoL (specifically, no battle speed option) and has some questionable UI decisions.
Also it appears to have IVs, Natures, and Abilities which Im...not a fan of. Abilities can be okay at least but I didnt unlock any kind of Pokedex to check what Abilities they can have, if the games Pokedex would even allow for that at all.

Voidling Bound is out. Played for a bit, only non-demo Voidling I'd used is Nimiod, the jellyfish one. So far pretty happy with the variety. Even just the default bird, I maxed out one fire path and it unlocked a passive that makes it run faster while shooting, which feels great.
Also while there are some invisible walls, you can get in some pretty funky places in the Exploration Missions. I'm honestly surprised they expected someone to climb this, putting a secret bird that just gives some Research points.

It took me a bit to notice, but the overworld they shown was super simplistic, with a top-down view rather than the 3rd Person the games have been since they went 3D.

The exploration missions have a 'beat in a certain amount of time' goal, and already they seem pretty strict. I went Out of Bound and skipped most of the level because I honestly didn't think it'd be possible to beat in that time, at least not without being overleveled. Another one I beat with less than one second to spare.
Honestly I can't even tell how intentional it is for how easy it is to get OoB. Given the 'unstuck' button in the pause menu, I guess they just decided to say fuck it let players fuck around wherever they can manage to get.

Reached the final boss. Even on normal difficulty it took three tries with my best Voidling, even if it was 100% because of this damn laser beam that absolutely shreds your health if you get caught in it.
There is more content after it, but level 20 is the max level for the Voidlings and that's been hit. While I enjoyed my time with the game and still have plenty more builds to try out, I do think the game definitely needs more content, and I hope it gets it.

Especially since I can tell I've only skimmed the surface of builds. This guy for example has a self-damage-on-melee-attack for more damage effect, but I added a heal-on-melee-hit passive from another Voidling. And it indeed healed off the self-damage. There's definitely potential, and while the post-final boss content might push enough to use it, I do wish there was more game before that.

It's excellent in every way except balance and writing. Balance wise you won't really struggle until postgame, even casual players will only occasionally struggle and even then mainly because of a bad match up. The postgame train/battle tower thing can be difficult if you're not purposefully trying to break the game however. For people who play games a lot you'll find it's easy to build broken builds that AI can't really deal with. The saving grace is that it has a lot of unique moves and skills to play around with..

The writing is salvageable, it's just very disjointed and simple since the game is very open ended. You can technically reach the final area without even doing a bunch of the game and you can imagine how that affects how much the ending hits you emotionally, but overall it's a nice storyline with a satisfying ending. I think it's best aspect is how down to earth the characters are, gives it a very human feeling to it that contrasts well with the alien-like entities you encounter at the risk of sounding pretentious.
>>
>>4001158
It's more interesting than "Use fire move on grass type, ohko." that's for sure. There is STAB and a type advantage bonus, but it doesn't matter nearly as much.

I was playing Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Capsules normally until I gave up and cheated my stats. The jump in difficulty after the 4th floor is just insane.
Before that the only hard boss was the Great Moth because it also had some Silver Fangs out of nowhere. The Curse of Dragon was also pretty easy but then Panik just straight up murders you and none of the battles on the floor were winnable with my nearly level 20 Great Pa as my main monster.
I stopped playing in the lightning graveyard because I have no clue where to go to progress and the constant stream of random battles is tiring. Was a pretty fun game up to this point. Guess the rest of the Early Days set of games are adjacent enough that I can also bitch about Dark Duel Stories with the terrible rock paper scissors 200 attack monsters can just gobble up your 1600 fusions. The second one is even more bullshit since it has the same duelist level and rock paper scissors but now you need to offer summon and you can't attack the same turn as you make a fusion. Duel Monsters was great though after I got a bunch of warriors off Jono. Going to give the rest of the games a fair shake but I will probably just end up replaying World Championship and go back to FM.

So far, the Stories subseries has predominately gotten better gameplay-wise. Going backwards isn't quite as rewarding as starting with an earlier game and watching it evolve. If you want to be in for a penny in for a pound, might as well start with 1.

Welp. Beat my first playthrough of Palworld 1.0.
Decided I wanted to do a melee-only build to take a break from using the same guns every playthrough. New Pal skills and weapons made that way more viable.

Man. I remember being a day-one hater back when those first trailers dropped. Continuing to do so once it first launched in Early Access. Months go by, still hating. But then finally trying it myself. Took some time to get into the groove of it, but my first time seeing Xenovader was when it felt like I was seeing the potential the designers had.
More updates come by, keep playing and getting more and more into it. Until the 1.0 release became my most anticipated game release in quite some time.
And man, it actually delivered. Overhauled stuff to make things like more unique team comps more viable, general QoL, the new Pals which are pretty god damn stellar all around, and new boss fights that were genuinely really cool. The Tree really delivered on the wait to visit it too.

All in all, I think I could honestly give the game like a 9/10. And I'm already thinking of what I want to do for my next playthrough. Been thinking of doing Ground Pals only.

Anyone play Aethermancer? How is it?
>>
>>4018064
I liked it. If you played Monster Sanctuary then it's very similar. Obviously it's a roguelike, and it has a progression system vaguely similar to Hades where you get currency from doing runs and spend it on permanent upgrades to make future runs easier. Combat is fairly similar to Monster Sanctuary with the same level of balance between monsters, and similar to Monster Sanctuary you can pretty effectively build around any specific monster you want. It also has the "pick one of these three upgrades" leveling system similar to Mewgenics, instead of a proper skill tree, but the game weighs what you can roll based on your party composition so you don't really fail runs because of bad RNG.

And because I eventually beat the post-game, I made my 2nd montner this. On that topic, because I killed the final final boss, I think I'm just done with the game. It was all pretty easy because I had this metal scorpion I rebirthed that just would tank everything. But now all that's left is the daily battle at the arena and that once-a-day 100 battle endurance challenge. I assume one of them is how I get the Aztech I need to complete the final quest from Cobi's dad. The guide I've recently been using just says "battle prize". But there's no legend or whatever to explain what battle it's a prize from.

The two main monsters I want because they're cool are Dierantula and the Dimensional Dragon. Both require getting lucky with RNG. Scouting the Wormonger needed for the Dierantula won't take more than a day. But filling the StreetPass Dream Egg using NetPass takes like 2 or 3. Then I also need to get lucky that it hatches into one. And it only comes from rainbow eggs, so that's another thing I need luck to acquire.

I'm gonna go to bed now. And I doubt I will play more DQM 2 3DS tomorrow. If I am going to play more DQM, it will be Joker 2 Pro because it's finally in English.
>>
>>4023049
How do the streetpass/online features work on a hacked 3DS? And how much stuff is inaccessible now that online is dead?
>>
>>4023448
I don't know about anything Wi-fi related. Because it's dead and Pretendo and other Pretendo don't work. In order to get StreetPass to work, you need to use the universal updater to download Netpass. That uses the net to simulate StreetPass. But if you want passes for a specific game (especially obscure ones) you need to use the back alley and buy them with play coins. But you only get like 4 a day for some fucking reason. So it works, but it's slow.
>>
Does Culdcept count as a mongrel? Because I'm playing it and it's pretty fun.

How is the difficulty in Time Stranger?
I'm really looking for something similar to Monster Sanctuary where I need to build a synergistic team
>>
>>4026547
Oh and I know about Aethermancer and Siralim already
>>
>>4026547
It has a few moments but all-in-all if you bring the counter to whatever boss you're fighting, it's pretty easy even on Hard.
Best way to get a difficult experience is if you purposefully bring teams that are weak to the bosses. I did a Data-Only run and it was pretty hard given most of the boss fights are Virus. Really required I used buffs/debuffs and brought Digimon for attack/defensive roles.

But even then, I was also playing with an extra challenge of not using reflecting skills, or damaging Cross Arts. So you really do gotta self-inflict difficult onto yourself with Time Stranger.
>>
>>4026698
Thanks for the answer, guess I'll have to wait for the next Aethermancer update again...
>>
>>4027069
I think Time Stranger is still a game worth experiencing because the combat is still satisfying enough when you get it right, and the evolution mechanics can be almost addicting.
But if difficulty is a big factor for you, then yeah fair. It's never the most important thing to me so long as playing the game itself is enjoyable.
I actually still gotta boot up Aethermancer again, haven't since before this major update.

I think it's more than fine if you just play it straight through without grinding, there's multiple very notable difficulty jumps and it will always require buff/debuff management. The game is actually designed with zero grinding in mind, but that has it's own issues of making the game too easy if you're the type to occasionally grind for hours mid story I suppose.

Depends of what you play a mon game for, if it is for the battles themselves then being unable to tell your pal when to use a move is a deal breaker (seen a lot of people complaining about the player fighting alongside the pals instead of the pals doing all the fighting), but if it is actually raising and living alongside your pals then it is a pretty good time (however I wish there was more interaction besides petting and sleeping with them)
>>
>>4040000
>being unable to tell your pal when to use a move is a deal breaker
I mean all the mount Pals you essentially get that experience. And like almost half of the Pals in the game are mounts.
>>4039791
I think part of Palworld's appeal is that there's generally always something to do and work for. You can work on improving your base, your team, grind for materials, schematics, duplicate Pals for condensing, or just general exploring and going into dungeons. It's a pretty freeform game with enough intended objectives to not be totally aimless. I also honestly think the breeding system is one of the best in the genre.
>>
>>4040000
>it is for the battles themselves then being unable to tell your pal when to use a move is a deal breaker
I mean, that's a core part of it. In terms of the "aesthetic" they're that way intentionally to make them feel more like real animals just like how the Pawns in Dragon's Dogma don't have perfect AI.

In regards to gameplay you're supposed to play an active role with them, not just watch. You can equip them with weaker low cooldown moves so they're always attacking, switch them out constantly to work around cooldowns, move them around the field to dodge attacks with the spheres, mount them for direct control and switch them in specifically to use their active abilities like holding them as a flamethrower. It's got more interaction in the gameplay department than most mon games, if that's what you care about.

>>
>>4042760
It's like the Joker games, not the GBC games. That's why it's the best. Scouting monsters is possible because it isn't just RNG. Also, what fucking tree. It's just 1 line you fill. I mean, there's bullshit where skills can be combined if you have the right combo maxed out when you breed, but that's some advanced-level shit that the majority of people don't know exists.

It's not the musical side of it or the lyrics, but that the vocals sound really off. The singer for the first game was really good and perfectly fitting for the tone of the game. I'm glad she's back and I love Crush 40, but the voice mixing makes it unironically sound like an AI original song (not that I think it is ai) or one of those bad metal covers. This guy pisses me the fuck off. In Yo-kai Watch 2, we got befriendable bosses, and they WASTED a slot on this moron. What kid played YKW and said, "I sure do wish SV Snaggerjag was playable"? Any other boss would've been a better pick. Massiface or Phantasmari would've been cool; Tarantutor had potential, and if we got Mcrkacken, we could've made a bunch of racism jokes.
But I'm burying the lead. What I'm really pissed at is the fact that Dr.Maddiman never got to be befriended. The one boss they flesh out and give backstory to just can't be in your party for some reason. Why did they make several more reasons to like him if he isn't ever gonna be summonable? Close. EVO on the SNES is based on the developer's first game for the PC-98 46 Okunen Monogatari ~The Shinka Ron~ (EVO The Theory of Evolution), which got a fantranslation a couple years back. The SNES game ends on the caveman age, the PC-98 one ends on future Earth and does involve an ultimate life form. Also there are some throwaway bad endings if you take the wrong evolutive choice, mostly comedic. Game is short enough as to be completed on an afternoon.

H shop if you have a hacked 3DS; Citra website if you use that.

I can just see people playing demos so hard that they forget to tune in. But if there isn't much audience overlap between the two events, I'm just full of shit.

I got Joker 3 professional. I still can't believe it was never brought over officially. Honestly, if Square wants to make some quick money, they could release pro versions of all 3 on modern systems + PC.

I read it in Agumon's english voice.

>SAGE
What even is this, sonic amateur games expo?
>>
>>4086894
Yeah, but the S stands for Sega now because there's a lot more non-Sonic stuff, like the Mega Man X8 demake and like 40 indie games. A bunch of people submit their demos and shit so people can find and play them. I can see one or two monster games getting in there somehow. But it's pretty unlikely now that I'm thinking about it.
>>
>>4086947
I mean the autism audience overlaps of. But I don't think it matters at all.

Not like it will ever get a global release anyway. Still waiting on 4 and the Switch version of 1.
>>
>>4087348
Why would they show that announcement in the English direct if they weren't planning on localizing it?
I won't hope 100% but that's be an absolute asinine decision.
>>
Played the DQM4 demo. I like the way it feels more than DQM3, although the rotating world movement is visually nauseating and something I'm hopeful I can get used to.
>>
>>4087435
You can never be too sure with L5
>>
>digimon thriving
>medabots mobile game getting a global release
>yokai watch coming back
>tons of indie games
How has everything gone so right?
>>
>>4087849
Heck I'd even count Palworld's success and actually delivering on 1.0 among those points.
Honestly I think the worst thing for the genre that's happened recently is MHStories 3 flopping pretty hard despite it being generally pretty good.
>>
>>4087859
>generally pretty good
I keep hearing the gene system is worse than 2 and that the game is bloated by the ecosystem mechanics. Does this hold any truth? Cause I wanted to buy it in the next sale.
>>
>>4087869
>gene system
I dunno. I think the way needing to have a certain types of genes to activate the environment grade passive bonus could lead to customization feeling more limited, or making it so optimization take more work. I think each gene not being upgradable through repeats like they were in 2 was a downgrade thought. But now element swapping is back so there's more customization that way too. I dunno. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.
>the game is bloated by the ecosystem mechanics
Eh, only if you feel the need to max out every monster in that environment. If you only max out the stuff you're gonna use or for getting subs/deviants, it's really not that bad.

I think the game is like a very solid 7/10. I used to have it at an 8/10 but that Navirou DLC was a genuine embarrassment.

>Shui Hu Shen Shou (水滸神獸, lit. "Sacred Beasts of the Water Margin"), is a Pokémon-esque RPG developed by Vast Fame and released for the Game Boy & Game Boy Color systems in 2001. It is loosely based off the story of the classical 14th century novel "Water Margin" (水滸傳, Shuǐhǔ zhuàn).
What novel do you think would make a good /mon/ game?
>>
>>4088178
Alice in wonderland would have interesting creature design.

Yea that was my plan, mostly treat it as a single player game and for the collecting aspect, it's on sale right now so that's why I wondered.

Another year, another direct.

>Monster Alchemy
Seems fine, even if the monster designs and sprite work aren't exactly impressing me.
>V Monsters: Forgotten Link
I mean. At least it's trying to be Digimon, rather than another Pokemon-like. I'm interested.
>Astral Arena
I'd like to be interested, but it seems like it's all just in one arena with some very basic terrain changes. Not really sold.
>Pemkie Island
Extremely bland art style, not much else to go on.
>Stories of Somnia
The monster taming aspect seems pretty secondary to everything else. Just seems fine.
>Tales of Tuscany
Heckin quirky Undertale-inspired! I just can't look at it earnestly.
>Myth Caller
It's different for the genre, but not my thing.
>Anode Heart 2
I honestly can't even tell what genre it is. I would've thought Mystery Dungeon, but those encounters aren't moving when the player moves. I didn't play the first so I have no frame of reference.
>Goobie Garden
So what, a weirdo mobile game or something? Pass.
>Astra Bestiary
Played the demo, and found myself bouncing off the combat pretty quickly. But, I might try again, and all around I do hope this game does well. I think it deserves it.
>Abomination: Monster Rifts
I can appreciate how easy it is to make your own monster, but I don't know if the foundation of the gameplay is strong enough to support technically endless content. We'll see.
>Spectrakin
Just kinda seems like... The most bog-standard Monster Tamer. In design and gameplay. Nothing special.
>Monitoball
Not my thing whatsoever so no comment.
>Wilderlocke
"A nuzlocke-inspired roguelike" "No random effects or Critical hits" Funny but nothing else to say about it.
>Stackmon
Another that's not my thing.
>Project Creatures
Real-time combat is becoming more common in the genre. This just looks janky and doesn't offer anything new really.
>Letalis
Looks fine. Admittedly GB-styled games are just hard for me to get into.
>>
File: Summoner's Tale.jpg (443 KB, 1321x717)
443 KB JPG
>>4092546
>Alchemic Beasts
Eh. Just looks like a janky Pokemon-like with some... Survival aspects? I think??
>Zoefs Story Academie
Just a raising sim with an honestly bad art style.
>Minimon
That sure is a basic and janky-looking idle game.
>The Sky Project
Eh. Has potential but wasn't too impressed.
>Voidling Bound
I really like this game. My only complaint was the lack of content, so glad to see more coming. The new huge scorpion Voidling looks awesome.
>Critterrupters
Still very much not a fan of it's art style. It's like, barely better than Pemkie Island's art style.
>Montabi
I honestly really enjoyed what I played of the demo. Was planning on buying it soon.
>Legacy of Pandora
Pretty unique art style, and the corruption system is neat. Will probably check it out.
>Tiny Monster Haven
So is it raising sim? Wasn't exactly clear. Nothing interesting.
>Yami Kids
Just seems like a slightly more stylish Pokemon-like.
>Decklings
More like Dicklings. But yeah, not interested in whatever kind of game it is.
>Summoner's Tale
Oh hey, this is the one with the recolored Monodramon. Still looks like horribly janky dogshit. Seriously they gotta stop letting this slop in the directs.
>Tupi
Still looks neat, might check it out.
>Evomon World
Digimon World but with completely generic designs.
>Cassette Beasts 2002
I'm generally excited for it. I liked the first game well enough.
>Elestrals Awakened
I get this game confused with Lumentale, they look so similar. Looks fine, whatever.
>Monster Crown: Sin Eater
Still haven't played this or the original, but looks fine.
>Coromon
Own it, but have barely touched it. But I haven't played since that Remastered update, so might be time to give it a better go.
>Coromon: Rogue Planet
With the changes they're making, might be interesting.

All in all this Direct was like.... A 5/10? Mostly old stuff shown before, with some real duds and more interesting stuff. Doesn't really feel like we needed a Direct this year.
>>
>>4092546
I'll give my thoughts on what I've played.
>Monster Alchemy
I played the demo and it was fun, it was just released in EA.
>Stories of somnia
Demo is fun and looks great but it didn't click for me, I'm sure the nostalgia clicks for the n64 fandom
>Astra bestiary
Demo got several QoL updates but will wait till release. At least this one has a release date.
>>4092548
>coromon
I bought it very cheap on release but I never finished it I think if I ever want to play something fully pokemon-like I'll do this.
>monster crown: SE
I had my doubts initially but it looks great and got good reviews, if it's getting free extra content I'll buy.
>Voidling bound
Waiting for the next sale for this. The demo was fun. The mon customization and trees look very in depth.

Still I think that AA+ budget games shouldn't be a part of this like why is elestrals in here unless they are funding it?
>>
>>4092514

Are there mon games where you do the thing of exploring collecting monsters and items and etc *which then* you use to run a business?
Palworld is a survival game and monsters jobs are the QoLs to lessen your work, and jobs in Pokemon SwSh are to give an utility to unused monsters on the side while you continue playing normally.

>>4092546
Monster Alchemy currently has good reviews at least.
