tfw think I finally figured out the "magic" combination of things that prevents undesired interaction between certain types of event calls typically made as part of parallel checks (dash/sprint, custom menu call, etc) that doesn't require weird chicanery and "just werkz".
hint: don't do "simple" player movement checks like the Mod16 of the difference between Player Screen X&Y and unused Boat/Ship/Airship Screen X&Y - take a "rolling" check of the difference of their actual X&Y and use that to "time" the player's movement state.

I assume by "simple" anon means direct variable comparison between 2 existing entities(X/Y array of the player coordinates and unused RPM2003 Vehicle Mode X/Y in this case ). "Rolling" is utilising an existing player X/Y array to calculate a difference of the X/Y when the movement key was pressed and the current frame X/Y to trigger an effect when a specific difference is reached.

Set Move Route events are very broken in 2k and 2k3 and can be used to skip over Player Touch and Event Touch events, which is a very common cause of bugs since both Sprint keys and events that stop the player from moving during custom menus.
There are basically several layers of protection to stop this.
>1: Checking if the player is squarely on a tile. Tiles are 16x16. Boat/Ship/Airship is always stationary and considered on screen even if not visible, so you can use them as an anchor to see if the player is squarely on a tile by doing v[x] = Player X - Boat X %16, v[y] = Player Y - Boat Y %16. If both are cleanly divisible by 16 and return 0, then the player can safely have Set Move Route for Speed Up/Speed Down applied to them without breaking Player Touch/Event Touch.
>2: Checking if the player is moving in general to prevent them from calling a menu while mid-tile. Usually by taking a player's X & Y in one variable, setting a second variable to that variable's value, and sticking a conditional between them to see if they're equal (standing still) or not equal (moving). Say you constantly subtract 1 from a [Player Moving?] variable and make it = 1 when they are in motion, now you have a safe way to prevent a menu from opening until the player is absolutely not moving (Less Than 0).
The one case none of these prevents is if the Player event is being moved during cutscenes, which requires that you do your preferred choice of switch or condition to deny the player access to everything that can interfere with the cutscene, so you are on your own for manually preventing these specific cases via a switch, or avoiding them entirely.

It's a place to stop. If we're conceptualizing software as a place. With it, or rather "in" it, the front view battle layout is essentially a first-person perspective.
As much as Dragon Quest can be called first person. The battle party size is technically 1 to 4 persons.
You could self-insert as their team spirit. A kind of egregore that treats characters as equipment. But life as a polycule is ironically lonely. You never know when they'll try to commit suicide without you.

They treat Game Design and Scenario Writing as different disciplines.

Often they categorize RPGs as "ensemble dramas", but defining that particular narrative genre is like defining a "roleplaying" game.
Because lost of stories have multiple character perspectives, but not all of them are considered ensembles because the majority of characters don't have a life beyond their support role.

The same applies to RPGs. You can have a bunch of characters like a mysterious wander, a robot, a mascot animal. They might have a backstory, but they don't have a life of their own to be seen as a new perspective. They aren't a catalyst for new events.
If you have a dog as a party member. Maybe the gameplay switches to them, and they chase a cat into the enemy camp, it's just a framing device so the player can overhear part of their plan. Potentially it can become an ensemble, if the dog steals a loaf of bread. A loaf hiding a key meant for a prisoner to escape - but now they can't. Now there's consequences influencing another character's storyline.

Another "loose" definition of ensembles say they have a series of encounters and departures. Lot of RPGs have guest characters. But they're more of a tripping hazard with predictable fates.
If there's a level 99 character, it raises a lot of questions like why they aren't the ones fighting the demon lord. If they die or turn out to be a villain, it's kind of predictable.

I'm trying to have this NPC move independent of the player without the need to touch the event/NPC, but for some reason Parallel (the first one here) or Autorun triggers cause the character to constantly move in one direction despite the strict Move Route, while Action Button, Event Touch (third) and Player Touch (fourth) function properly. What am I missing here?

Your voice changer is bad and hard to understand. Your avatar is amateurish. These are first impressions everyone seeing your channel will think. The VC is harder to understand than your normal voice. I know it's part of your brand to do all your own art, but that's part of your Barako rpgmaker games and channel. Aside from us, nobody looking at this new channel and these new videos is going to know that. If you really want to do vtubing like this and aim for a niche like minor rpgmaker games, then consider commissioning a more professional avatar and turning off the VC or at least setting up a better one.

Your personality and attitude and enthusiasm all fine, the problems are all in the presentation.


fwiw I hope you keep doing lets plays of these very minor games. Decades ago there was a youtube channel (rpg snapshot) where two former TFS guys did a series of 30 minute lets plays of anything they could find on rpgmaker.net. They never got a lot of views or subs and those videos are long gone now. I miss it and your old channel reminded me a little of that. Maybe find a co-host or something if you're trying to get more views.

Yeah the voice changer really varies from video to video... There's all that weird feedback, and for some reason it mispronounces words when I speak sometimes. It also changes depending on the microphone and earphones I use...They're really hard to set up and use, although I seriously doubt it'll change if I use a different one, definitely a skill issue on my part... I feel like I should just keep experimenting with the VC settings before giving it up though, I feel like it's a fairly pleasing voice to hear once it works.

I'll think about a co-host, but honestly I'm kinda bad at making friends, and I'll basically have to make my schedule around the other co-host too... So yeah, dunno about that either...
