tfw think I finally figured out the "magic" combination of things that prevents undesired interaction between certain types of event calls typically made as part of parallel checks (dash/sprint, custom menu call, etc) that doesn't require weird chicanery and "just werkz".hint: don't do "simple" player movement checks like the Mod16 of the difference between Player Screen X&Y and unused Boat/Ship/Airship Screen X&Y - take a "rolling" check of the difference of their actual X&Y and use that to "time" the player's movement state.
>>3966875>shows the WiP of Quick Move girl... are you from VipRPG, by chance?
>>3966804something something generals are not allowed on /vrpg/in reality nobody gives a toss
>>3966875I think I'm too retarded to even understand what the "simple" movement checks are
>>3966906AI also likes to hallucinate public opinions and individuals. Someone publishes 1 book.>He was obsessed.
>>3967009I assume by "simple" anon means direct variable comparison between 2 existing entities(X/Y array of the player coordinates and unused RPM2003 Vehicle Mode X/Y in this case ). "Rolling" is utilising an existing player X/Y array to calculate a difference of the X/Y when the movement key was pressed and the current frame X/Y to trigger an effect when a specific difference is reached.
>>3967019>Someone publishes 1 book.To be fair, writing a whole ass book is more than enough for people to start thinking like that.
>2 joinedWe are so back
>>3967022Okay that makes a lot of sense now, I'll have to consider doing that when I start doing more systems like that. Thanks for explaining it for brainlets like me.
>>3967024Strongly disagree.
>>3967009Set Move Route events are very broken in 2k and 2k3 and can be used to skip over Player Touch and Event Touch events, which is a very common cause of bugs since both Sprint keys and events that stop the player from moving during custom menus. There are basically several layers of protection to stop this.>1: Checking if the player is squarely on a tile. Tiles are 16x16. Boat/Ship/Airship is always stationary and considered on screen even if not visible, so you can use them as an anchor to see if the player is squarely on a tile by doing v[x] = Player X - Boat X %16, v[y] = Player Y - Boat Y %16. If both are cleanly divisible by 16 and return 0, then the player can safely have Set Move Route for Speed Up/Speed Down applied to them without breaking Player Touch/Event Touch.>2: Checking if the player is moving in general to prevent them from calling a menu while mid-tile. Usually by taking a player's X & Y in one variable, setting a second variable to that variable's value, and sticking a conditional between them to see if they're equal (standing still) or not equal (moving). Say you constantly subtract 1 from a [Player Moving?] variable and make it = 1 when they are in motion, now you have a safe way to prevent a menu from opening until the player is absolutely not moving (Less Than 0).The one case none of these prevents is if the Player event is being moved during cutscenes, which requires that you do your preferred choice of switch or condition to deny the player access to everything that can interfere with the cutscene, so you are on your own for manually preventing these specific cases via a switch, or avoiding them entirely.

Greetings fellow anons. This is my first RPGMaker dev thread. If I wanted to make jrpgs, should I start with a specific RPGMaker? I have an idea to make a game with battles in first person, similar to Dragon Quest, would RPGMaker be a good place to start? Are there other helpful suggestions like books, videos etc for a newbie like me? Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance.
>>3967580It's a place to stop. If we're conceptualizing software as a place. With it, or rather "in" it, the front view battle layout is essentially a first-person perspective. As much as Dragon Quest can be called first person. The battle party size is technically 1 to 4 persons. You could self-insert as their team spirit. A kind of egregore that treats characters as equipment. But life as a polycule is ironically lonely. You never know when they'll try to commit suicide without you.
>>3967546looks like anus
I have never seen these options not greyed out ever. How the fuck are you even supposed to enable these to use them in 2k3's battle test?
>>3967706I would guess it has something to do with the Side-View Battle option that changes the battler configurations, as well as the battle background placement behind the HUD. "Depth" sounds very misleading.
I tried looking up rm2k3 battle videos on youtube. But now the video suggestions are insane. It's all about serial killers and mental breakdowns. Are schizos skewing the search algorithm or what?

Supposedly the psychology behind fake game ads is to bait people's sense of incompetence. You watch people do it wrong. And a voice inside your head goes "Let me do it!"Does that work in reverse? If you do something with effortless grace, does it make people give up?
>>3969313You mean people playing fake games badly or making fake games? A fake game is fine desu, sometimes you just want to make a vertical slice.
>>3969313>If you do something with effortless grace, does it make people give up?For some people it does. They'd watch a guy do the rubick's cube in like 10 seconds and think "I could never do that" and give up on even trying.
Social Comparison Theory says yes. But values aren't fixed. Like with Rubick Cubes. There's problem solving. And then there's just applying an algorithm pattern that makes the final state inevitable. That's one of the big challenges with AGI, Artificial General Intelligence. We want pathfinding, not path memorization. Some people say we're there, others say we're not.

Jam progress?
>>3973983It was up to 4 last I checked.Probably the same people as last time.
>>3973898They treat Game Design and Scenario Writing as different disciplines. Often they categorize RPGs as "ensemble dramas", but defining that particular narrative genre is like defining a "roleplaying" game. Because lost of stories have multiple character perspectives, but not all of them are considered ensembles because the majority of characters don't have a life beyond their support role. The same applies to RPGs. You can have a bunch of characters like a mysterious wander, a robot, a mascot animal. They might have a backstory, but they don't have a life of their own to be seen as a new perspective. They aren't a catalyst for new events. If you have a dog as a party member. Maybe the gameplay switches to them, and they chase a cat into the enemy camp, it's just a framing device so the player can overhear part of their plan. Potentially it can become an ensemble, if the dog steals a loaf of bread. A loaf hiding a key meant for a prisoner to escape - but now they can't. Now there's consequences influencing another character's storyline. Another "loose" definition of ensembles say they have a series of encounters and departures. Lot of RPGs have guest characters. But they're more of a tripping hazard with predictable fates. If there's a level 99 character, it raises a lot of questions like why they aren't the ones fighting the demon lord. If they die or turn out to be a villain, it's kind of predictable.
>>3974696Fire Emblem is a good example of an RPG with lots of characters, that can't be an ensemble because it has a permadeath mechanic. If characters can die at any point in the story, they can't be essential to the plot.
>>3975103>If characters can die at any point in the story, they can't be essential to the plot.>what is morrowind>what is gothic>what is baldur's gate 3if you can't write around essential characters dying, you're a bad writer, simple as.

>>3975155"The question is, which is to be master - that is all."That's not how genres work. But ok.
I suppose you could have characters do the same thing, but rewrite their motivations. Thief kidnaps the princess in Chapter 3. "Because I love her!'>Princess dies in Chapter 1Thief exhumes the princess in Chapter 3. "Because I love her!"
>>3975337lae'zel dying was kind of fuckin impossible to work around on my first playthrough though>get to bridge>dies because i didnt do something right>well if shes dead ill level up and then come around to save her from being dead>10 hours of playtime later>return>cant revive her>played the entirety of the game thinking she could have just died and didnt think anything of it
Speaking of Fire Emblem, there's an archetype character to come out of those games. Where they're strong from the start but they have low growth potential. So you're stunting your other units by using them.
I'm trying to have this NPC move independent of the player without the need to touch the event/NPC, but for some reason Parallel (the first one here) or Autorun triggers cause the character to constantly move in one direction despite the strict Move Route, while Action Button, Event Touch (third) and Player Touch (fourth) function properly. What am I missing here?
>>3975960And the move route itself just in case, I'm using RPG Maker 2003.
someone earlier said the move routes in rm2k3 were broken.
>>3975996I see, I actually managed to figure it out since I made that post at least. I just needed to utilize the 'custom route' that's under the event graphic rather than implementing it using the event commands.
Hey guys, would you be interested in watching me stream /vrpg/ jam games, like at least once or twice a week?I have a new Twitch Channel and youtube. I'll post them here just in case your interested...https://www.youtube.com/@TitaniatheFairyhttps://www.twitch.tv/titania_the_fairyI know it reads Titania the Fairy, but I'm actually Barako the Pirate and I used to post here quite a bit a while back, and have been silently lurking here ever since, due to being a nodev now. Kinda abandoned my old channel on account of the videos kinda being boring to watch and make as myself... PS: (I swear I'm not gay, I just like hearing my voice as a girl, alright? And there's nothing gay about being a girl for your homies... Also not gay if balls don't touch...)I'll be streaming on 8:00am GMT next Sunday, and Monday, (which will be Saturday and Sunday for people living in the US) and will be playing a Bard's Quest and a Bard's Quest 2 on there first, depending on how long they take to play. Maybe other /VRPG/ games if we have time. I'll post times for what games I'm gonna play on my channel's schedule as well...If you're not interested I completely understand, but I figured it'll be fun to play through past entries together, and it'll get you guys more excited about making games for the jams, and encourage more entries in them.

>>3977176Honest feedback in the spoilers. It might hurt, so don't check unless you really want it.Your voice changer is bad and hard to understand. Your avatar is amateurish. These are first impressions everyone seeing your channel will think. The VC is harder to understand than your normal voice. I know it's part of your brand to do all your own art, but that's part of your Barako rpgmaker games and channel. Aside from us, nobody looking at this new channel and these new videos is going to know that. If you really want to do vtubing like this and aim for a niche like minor rpgmaker games, then consider commissioning a more professional avatar and turning off the VC or at least setting up a better one.Your personality and attitude and enthusiasm all fine, the problems are all in the presentation.fwiw I hope you keep doing lets plays of these very minor games. Decades ago there was a youtube channel (rpg snapshot) where two former TFS guys did a series of 30 minute lets plays of anything they could find on rpgmaker.net. They never got a lot of views or subs and those videos are long gone now. I miss it and your old channel reminded me a little of that. Maybe find a co-host or something if you're trying to get more views.
May day may day!Unfortunately I might be just as busy this month as last month.
>>3977572Nah that's fine, thanks for the honest feedback... I'm planning on redoing the avatar once I get better at art, I know I'm kinda bad now, but I am getting a bit better day by day. It's fine if people think it's a bit shit now I guess, I kinda agree, but I'd like to keep it. I really don't like professional art, I like outsider, kinda amaturish looking art with a focus on style rather than the more technical but more generic looking art. Although I'm probably alone in that, so I dunno...Yeah the voice changer really varies from video to video... There's all that weird feedback, and for some reason it mispronounces words when I speak sometimes. It also changes depending on the microphone and earphones I use...They're really hard to set up and use, although I seriously doubt it'll change if I use a different one, definitely a skill issue on my part... I feel like I should just keep experimenting with the VC settings before giving it up though, I feel like it's a fairly pleasing voice to hear once it works.I'll think about a co-host, but honestly I'm kinda bad at making friends, and I'll basically have to make my schedule around the other co-host too... So yeah, dunno about that either...Thanks for saying that you want me to continue also! Really means a lot!

Is Isekai worth studying for RPG development? It is amazing how many manga lean into Dragon Quest and Legend of Zelda tropes. >Get the Holy Sword>Defeat the Demon LordThe gameplay objectives are clearly defined, because back in the NES days, there wasn't much room for anything else like interpersonal drama. Coincidentally, I don't see many isekai manga inspired by Final Fantasy tropes, like sentient elemental crystals or killing "god". I'm hesitant to attribute adventuring guilds and class systems to Final Fantasy. Although FFTactics Advanced might as well be called Final Fantasy Isekai. In my opinion, FF plots don't have an obvious story goal in general. It's mainly move from point A to point B. "Stranger of Paradise" was basically an Isekai story too. "Stranger" is a common term in isekai stories for the person(s) from another world. But the game was mainly just a dungeon run. There was no narrative beats within the dungeon itself that changes the story. Like, you just pass through a cave. There's never a cave-in. You don't encounter new characters half-way through. Most isekai manga stories stay close to town-to-dungeon game loops. There's countless encounters with new characters, but they're all just reacting to the MC's advancement, skills, and gears. Like "No way! Something like that exists!? A bag of infinite storage?"And then they entertain thoughts about how those tools could be used in industry.
>>3980212Zelda --> Arthurian NonsenseDragon Quest ... meh- never played it.All I know is that 'slimes as an early common mob' is from that franchise.top-down tile based RPGs were a boom in the early days; think breath of fire and final fantasy for other examples.soulblazer, also very popular, but was brought out later. For example, they skip the grind, there is more drama and emotion, protagonist has cheats, by default + easy mode, etc. Most multiplayer games use a hub. (lobby system)FFtactics, FFTA, FFTA:GotR and FF12 all play in the world "Ivalice". In FFTA, this is a storybook world. The protagonist gets dragged into it.Arguably, the first popular isekai game maybe Zelda: A link to the Past....more specifically its sequel for the sattela tv, japan only game-A 'hero' from our world, is 'summoned' to the world of 'a link to the past', and needs to become the hero of ligh to defeat the evil wizard.I am not aware of another earlier game that actually made the protag a character from "our 'modern' world", entering a fantasy world.... Secret of Evermore though, a good second contester.Nowadays, games with an isekai character tend to be there as guest / dlc for promotional reasons, and only there for short duration; not part of the main plot + they're overpowered.
FF12 hides the tropes pretty well. There's technically a hunter's guild, but only for side quests. The English version makes Ashe a descendent of the "Dynast King", but in Japanese the word is just "Overlord". Also the power of the stones (Nethicite) isn't explained very well in English. But the power they provide is proportional to the user's desires.IMO, "desire" is the keystone of Japanese dramas. Style-wise, it's like the universe will conspire to make the character's desire significant and consequential. Or there's some Law of Attraction b.s. happeningIn western writing styles, I think desires are the thing to change in a character arc. Or they're used for irony. They get what they want, but not in the way they wanted it. Or they can't get what they want because their life is a lie or something.Btw, the best writing structure for character arcs I've used is the WANT-NEED-LIE-GHOST formula. They WANT one thing, they actually NEED something else. They believe this LIE because of the GHOST of a scar/trauma event in their past.In isekai, characters rarely have a past. They'll have a prologue or start where they are betrayed or "kicked out of the party". It almost follows the formula; but half the time the MC isn't motived by a lie like "I'm not good enough". They're literally left for dead, fighting for their life. You can't frame survival as a "want" -- although in a fantasy world, I guess dying isn't always the end either. There's stories were people comeback as ghosts, zombies, or just reincarnate with their memories for a "second chance".

>>3980465I'm not even to that step yet anon, recreate them in what and with what?
>>3980348More like Youtube's algorithm. I subscribe to a lot of screenwriting and plot analysis channels. Sometimes someone will make a video on a Star Trek Enterprise episode, explaining the themes and bases of inspiration, and I suddenly understand what 10 other shows and 3 games were reaching at. For example, most people think of "Time & Space", but Scifi being a speculative genre will add "& Consciousness" into the mix. Maybe you've heard that you manifest your own reality, but that would be extra true out on the edge of the universe where there's nothing there except this prime Materia waiting to be touched and shaped by your consciousness, like how a dream is shaped by your intuitions. That borders on a meta-narrative construct. Where you and your world are whatever you make of it. In the TV show, Miraculous Ladybug, I didn't understand why there were 2 heroes, the snake and the bunny, that have similar powers to mess with time. But the snake's power of "Second Chance" isn't really meant to change history, it's meant to change yourself. Re:Zero is an Isekai with the same narrative device, but it's a "Return by death" ability. A number of visual novels are built like this, where you'll always hit a bad ending first, and you have to replay other story branches to unlock a new path to a better ending. Of course lots of games have a "retry" ability or a "respawn" point. But only a handful weave that into the narrative.

>>3980473"Saros" is another game that recently came out. It's similar to Returnal, but people hate it. People call it Cosmic Horror, but it's not. It borrows cosmic horror elements from popular fiction like "the king in yellow" the planet's name is Carcosa. Everyone is going crazy or being "corrupted". First of all, I'd like to say that Youtubers are idiots. They know "The King in Yellow" is a book by Robert Chambers, but they obviously have never read it. Horror, as a genre, is not meant to scare you. It's meant to encapsulate inescapable fates, dread, or inconvenient truths. Cosmic Horror is the idea that humanity is small and insignificant. The analogy often used, compares us to mice living in the walls or under floor boards. It's not a normal habitat. And it's only a matter of time before the legitimate occupants notice.

>>3981147Real-Life-Fake-WIzard called Saros "Feminized Storytelling". What does that even mean? Probably nothing to do the female form, and more to do with feminism. The best point he makes is that Saros is on a planet where everyone is going mad. But the female characters are somehow infallible in every decision they make. This is breaking its own rules. Of course for feminists writing, the goal is to depict female characters with agency. None of that -she turns to her male superior and asks "What do we do now?"- business. Although the idea that storytelling can be feminized or masculine is an interesting concept. What story shapes do they correspond to?

>>3981696What I'm trying to tell you is that fundamentally, the way pixels are being rendered is really slushy in, what, this must be MV?
>>3981698But the simple fact is that "pixel aesthetic" lives and dies on having sharp, crisp edges. I tire of seeing each new VX/Ace/MV/MZ game coming out trying to cosplay as "pixel" only to look like absolute puke on the screen.I don't know if it's an easy fix or not. I know some people have found ways to deal with it, be it through plugins or other means.I dig the vibe of it, I just don't dig how the technical aspects are killing the vibe.
>>3981699>I tire of seeing each new VX/Ace/MV/MZ game coming out trying to cosplay as "pixel" only to look like absolute puke on the screen. You realize thats the fault of the engine right? Any rpgm game that was made in XP or later versions look blurry in fullscreen, even with extra scripts/plugins
>>3981698if the window is scaled to something that isn't a multiple of 2 of the original resolution, that will happen, even if the original pixels WERE crisp>1017x775This isn't really the fault of the dev beyond he shouldn't have taken a screenshot scaled badly
>>3981450I think i saw you on the RPG Maker subreddit. keep up the good work!
>>3982036thanks!>>3981905yeah, this is the sfont. it looks crystal clear in game, i just took pretty quick and dirty screenshots.
>>3982059no, excuse me. it's this one
Real RPG Maker players keep the original resolution and let Interger Scaler or Lossless Scaling do the job. Set nearest neighbor and 2x as >>3981905 mentioned and you are ready to go.
>>3981699Pixels look fine in VX and VX Ace. It's just that the tiles often get JPEG painted (as if everyone wants to see blending and color bleeding)In case you wonder about the font: it's verdana, windows, meaning- it's not a pixel font. It's also a target for windows' build incleartype function to mess with. It's probably a better idea to draw the text (literally) and show them to the player as if show picture. In case of MV / MZ, it's half a hopeless cause. PixiJS and Chrome have buildin blending that do not obey nearest neighbor.>>3981772XP, VX, and VX Ace use GDI+ Media rendering, meaning; Windows just calls the graphics card and tells it to render a 640x480 window with just the game's display in it at that size. How it scales up depends thus on the GPU. It also decides how it sharpens, stretches, blends, etc. Tweak the settings of your GPU where you can....or use a Fake Full Screen script that just makes the window bigger.MV and MZ use Chrome's building fake full screen, but again- chrome decides. You can tweak it only slightly with a CSS call and such, but you can't escape the blur because its a browser.
i used SRD's Sfonts to make the font look crisp. that's about what can be done in RMMV. any artifacting you're seeing is because of compression from the screenshots/conversion to gifs/compression
>>3982206Well, in that case, you are OK.I only bring it up as a complaint because you still see it all the time where new games come out that want to use the pixel aesthetic/pixel fonts, only to have shit that is scaled incorrectly, blurry as hell, (often just pulling Press Start 2P from Google Fonts and dropping it in haphazardly instead of using it as a true pixel font - same shit you see with crap like FOT Dot Gothic 16).
>>3982375yeah, absolutely. dw, this is like my fifth pixel game, i've got it down atp. this one is the most authentic so far :)also fuck the press start font all my homies hate the press start font
>>3982515It better has chip sound based background music... if you feed that game modern music with tons of instruments and noise, then you'll ruin the soul
>>3982761ofc it won't have orchestral shit. i'm going so far as to remove highlight tint, and occurrences of blur and stuff in MV, and making every map using just B, C, D tiles, working tile by tile like in an older rpgmaker

Ok so I’m not making a game for this jam but I figured I’d share this rpg maker 2k3 game I’m working onSo it’s a fanfiction game that at first is meant to look like a poorly made game with shit pixel art, edgy shit and writing that tries to be ironic to hide the creator’s insecurities but further on the game’s art style turns into a slightly high quality pixel art style and becomes a psychological horror game and then later on there’s some 4th wall shitIt sounds ambitious as hell but that’s not stopping me from making it in the first place I dunno what do ya’ll think does the idea of the game sound like shit or not
>>3983250Im gonna steal your idea
>>3983265Eh you can go ahead I don’t really careI highly doubt my own project will get popular enough anyway when it’s finished(Although considering you are gonna steal I’m gonna take that as “the idea sounds interesting” so I’m happy I guess)
>>3983250>what do ya’ll think does the idea of the game sound like shit or notIdeas are worthless until executed.I don't know if it's bad or not because there's nothing to show for it, but I do dislike 4th wall breaking quite a bit in general. 4th wall breaking comes across as way more ironic and insecure than anything else to me.Homestuck isn't an rpg, but it kinda does the idea of "starts off with edgy humor and low production value, grows into high production value with drama". I like early Homestuck more but I don't doubt someone can do this correctly.
>>3983300Ok 2 ideas for 4th wall breaking shit done right in my opinionA) creator is aware there game might be reviewed poorly so there’s dialogue being like “it’s fine to right a bad review of this game I don’t care” (I could’ve sworn a Japanese visual novel game on ps1 did this but I cannot recall the name)B) 4th wall breaking shit is like certain puzzles in oneshot just saying if this game kinda goes in the oneshot direction in terms of 4th walk breaking shit then I’d probably think it’s cool and neat (I dunno about everything else about it tho)
>>3983300>i don't know if it's bad or not because there's nothing to show for itok you want to see some of it ok here's what the main character looks like
and here's what he's meant to look like come the artstyle shift(if any of you can find where's he's from and what his name is i'll show more of it)
>>3983307A is really bad. Really fucking bad. You can be humble about your work without having your characters act embarrassed about what you've made. I have never seen this done well.B on the other hand is amazing when executed right.
>>3983318Ok I kind of see the vision here the detailed pixel art strongly contrasts the sort of poorly made pixel art it’s kinda cool(Why are his eyes smaller tho?)

I've already asked that in the past, but does anyone know of games made in 2k that have good DBS (not CBS!) combat? I'm trying to make something fun with it and while I think it's genuinely possible, I'd like more examples of devs doing a good job with it for reference. So far I've only found Ruina, JJBA 7th stand user, Nephesel, and that one Touhou crpg that make good use of it. There's gotta be more!

>>3986255When was the last time you played a final fantasy, especially the older ones? I replayed VII last year and it was the first time it felt "quaint" to me. The whole game part felt simpler and far more restrained than I remember it. But it wasn't quaint or simple overall - it was an extremely expensive game to produce back in the 90s, one of the largest dev team at the time, 100s of people, and more than $50 million before even getting to marketing budget.Cut time from the SGI workstation FMVs, that high detail stuff had to be expensive and time consuming, you cut 40 minutes of FMV cutscenes from a 50 hour game. You're still left with prerendered backgrounds and a bunch of 3d models, which every game has these days. Cut those too, just make it a pixel operation like FF 1-6, okay how much of those $50 million have you saved? How much of the 30 months of development have you shortened? Well FFVI took 12 months, 30 people and a couple of million budget, so you can compare that doing it the old way.The main offending culprit is high quality 3d. Choosing to do 3d cost a lot decades ago and it costs a lot now. It's all assets and art production eating time and money in these companies.Love it or hate it, I think one of the reasons for the forced trend of HD2D is to save money. Once you turn off all the filtering and depth of field in a game like Octopath you can spot some really lazy/sloppy practices within the simple 3d models used as backgrounds. z-fighting, shitty uv scaling, unpolished stuff you don't expect a AAA company to do with their 3d but you can't see under all the post processing. it's faster work, and Octopath still took more than 3 years and who knows how much money before the expensive voices.RPGs are just expensive games. Even the old 2d style is millions of dollars and dozens of people.
RPGmaker is so funny. It's so shitty but yet people make such great stuff with it.
>>3986468>it costs a lot nowNo, they voluntarily choose to engage in methods that inflate the cost instead of innovating methods that we know already exist and can lower cost.We don't need to know every atom of that girl's titties can jiggle or to be able to count her teeth when she giggles.
>>3986505It's also irrelevant. Because they have the money. they have the manpower.
>>3986506Costs are already inflating to the point where returns are not achieved to the satisfaction of the shareholders. Cutting pointless fluff like graphics would be the best way to save lots of money on production.
>>3986508>Cutting pointless fluff like graphics would be the best way to save lots of money on production.Ah, the opinion of a shareholder. Why not try cutting the overinflated marketing budgets instead?

A question about AI slop. Why does no one talk about the positive things AI can do? Like everyone talks about using it to make generic art assets and writing wooden flowering game dialog. But yesterday I used it for the first time. I had this huge case study to read for work and it was just a wall of text so as a joke I asked Claude to summarize and it did. It was really generic so I got more specific, asking how the people in the study used X and Y tools to reach their goals and it made a clear 4 bullet list. I thought about how good of a job it did so I asked if it could put together instructions on how to learn to write rpgmaker mv plug ins. That mother fucker actually did.No, its not perfect because one item is to use a Javascript editor, and an editor cant runt rpgmaker plug ins because they really only work in rpgmaker because, well, they are dependent on that environment. But the rest of it was ok.Why dont people talk about using this stuff to search for information foe teaching yourself faster? I'm woukd haven taken me an hour or more to put together what this thing spit out. Sure, some of it wrong, and tou Ave to go through each peice but I was going to do that anyway if I used Google to find and learn things. Why is everyone using thia stuff to generate titties and fire people when its best use is to save time researching somethinf you're working on?
>>3987785>Why does no one talk about the positive things AI can do?Stopped reading here

How hard would it be to steal the eventing from this game so I could get the "3D" walls working on my RPGmaker maniacs patch project?
>>3988393dude like just use ai bro
>>3988393It's doable but it may take you a few days of work to understand how everything works. + There's probably going to be a ton of comments in moonrunes in the code since its viprpg. My advice is try to copy every line into your project manually one after the other instead of just C/Cing entire events, you'll understand how everything work way better this way even if it's longer.>t. did that but for a 2d platformer section instead
>>3988394AI is absolutely ass garbage for older versions of RPG Maker. Ask it anything and it'll tell you to use commands that don't exist because it cannot comprehend that MV and 2k3 are fundamentally different softwares.

>>3986542So i got back into playing it:Recruited the bunny girl from the underwater area by paying enough blood. She's basically a weaker, but decent attacker with her weapon skills. Speaking of skills, Behead is suprisingly useful because there no cooldown (as far as i know) So enemies will either die instantly, or die after enough uses. Elements don't really help that much with dealing damage, so i pretty much just used skills and weapons that hit multiple times. Also: A rabbit enemy... That dodges nearly all my attacks... and spams behead...I know a Wizardry fan when i see one.Anyway, Im on floor 15 and trying to kill this knight that knows my behead strats right back at me, along side fully heal and full buffing himself. damn.IDK if those locked doors do anything....Also i encountered a crash when i was in battle and Niko attacked an enemy. "stack level too deep".
>>3988424What AI did you use? I tried ChatGPT and gave up because it was too dumb.
>>3988466NTA but I just use chatgpt for ruby scripts. 4o could sorta do it it function-by-function if you held its hand all the way, but gpt-5 onwards is just fine and will only screw up 10-15% of the time. Just remind it "Rpgmaker vx ace script using RGSS3 and ruby 1.9" before it starts so it doesn't try doing more recent ruby. It still will now and then, but if you feed it the error line it will notice it's using the wrong ruby version and get fixed up quick.
>>3988440>I was thinking 2k & 2k3 eventing. AI is terrible at it in my experience.Might be better off not telling it you're doing rpgmaker and just have it reference a ton of events files
>>3988488nta but my experience using AI to help with 2k/3 is often specificlly for math problems with the restriction of not having decimals. It's a niche part of math problems I don't have experience with, so it helps a lot with that.

>>3988464shieet. sorry about the stack level too deep error anon. I've been trying to fix that for god knows how long now. it occur mostly when you have a party member with you with bonus actions.one thing you should know is that guarding makes you immune to 1hko so that might be useful in the fight with roland. also always try to 'break' enemies who are guarding or charging/chanting, it'll leave them vulnerable.also try to debuff the enemy's agility whenever you can with seabeast sword's tentacle barrage or axe's leg chop and buff yourself up, especially with the pills which does not take any action to use.
If it wasn't Memorial Weekend, I'd use AI to generate a Jam game in 3 days handsfree. It still requires at least a few hours of attention I can't spare.

>>39886202k and 2k3's project explorer is so quirky! It'll let me browse my desktop file through four different inexplicable paths, yet won't let me launch a project from a usb key even tho said key is recognized correctly by windows :^)
*sigh* I didn't mean for this to turn into an AI debate. I brought up AI because I honestly didnt know you could just ask it to make you a ruby study guide or Javascript guide, etc. Everyone always complains about image slop, dialog slop. I didnt know you could use it to speed up learning
>>3988565I'm sure Ai can write a 200pg novel in a weekend. But I don't think I could read it in a weekend.
Should I be expected to support mkxp/mkxp-z?I tried running a VX ACE game with mkxp-z and it had some weird effects. For example, if a project asset shares a filename with a RTP asset, it priorities the RTP version instead of the custom one. If you have a "rat, png" in your battlers, it will always show the RTP "rat.png" instead of the one you drew. It also doesn't do screen transitions properly and very slightly messes up the fonts during messages windows but not in other windows. Idk why. The RTP thing in particular is stupid given that's the opposite way to how the engine is supposed to work.
>>3988464>Also: A rabbit enemy... That dodges nearly all my attacks... and spams behead...>I know a Wizardry fan when i see one.Isn't that a Monty Python reference?

A couple of people on this board mentioned it, so should I start using wolf rpg editor or vx ace?
>>3988826Wolf.
>>3988826no.
>>3966875RPGM 'dev' is funny like this. A normal developer would just write code that make the game werk how they want, but here people are stuck in this mindset that any kind of 'real' devs tools are impossibly hard to learn to work with, so they make everything harder for themselves by having to learn convoluted 'tricks' to do things that would be simple in any other development environment.
>>3988826Wolf is like 2k3 on steroids, but the big caveat is that there's practically no english ressource about it anywhere on the western internet. Almost no tutorials, no documentation, no graphical ressources, not even forums dedicated to it afaik. There's a reason all the wolf games you see are made by japanese people.Unless you're comfortable browsing the jap internet, or are very confident in your ability to figure out everything on your own without help, I'd recommend against using it (it's a shame cause I do think it looks neat and has some cool little tricks like the custom hitbox for events)VXA has +15 years of ressources, tutorials and scripts available, plus a far bigger catalogue of games. It'd way more comfortable to use if it's your first maker.
>>3988834Just looking at the UI for wolf, I really doubt I can figure it out on my own. If it was as simple looking as Ace seems to be I might choose it, but no dice it seems
>>3988767Nigga they literally just released MTG cards that refer to it last year.
>>3988830>just write your own engine anon>just use a bloated engine like Unity to make a simple 2D game, anon>just use generic ugly Unity assets, anonEvery thread
>>3988826>A couple of people on this board mentioned it, so should I start using wolf rpg editor or vx ace?Depends how much VX Ace already does what you want to do. Also depends on how much frustration you want to deal with on trying to translate and use japanese resources vs using english resources to make things in Ace.There is a certain kind of autism around rpg maker where people will do 6 months of work either using another engine or building a game from scratch just tl avoid 3 or 4 days of work in forcing rpgmaker to do that one extra thing you want.

>>3989760that's why I'm here, I think you guys are wasting your lives away. or maybe I'm wrong, maybe this is really big with the higher than 70 IQ market.
>>3989763The trouble with RPGM porn games is that it attracts the 70 IQ audience and makes them feel like they're the 120 IQ audience. This is the only possible way to explain why Black Sludge/Shitquel/Monster Grill Sloppadox/Karryn's Prison/countless others have people who unironically try to tell you their garbage games have better stories and gameplay than proper, mainstream RPGs aimed at general audiences.Imagine if someone tried to convince you that a porn movie had better acting and writing than even a 7/10 mainstream Hollywood flick. You'd laugh them out of your sight and tell them never to speak to you again.
WelpLast day of jam, back to 3 people with 0 entries.Man.
>>3989766I get what you're saying, and I'm not really advocating for h-games here. I'm just saying that I don't think there's any real pull towards rpgm anymore. At least with h-games you'll have the dead beat sub 70 IQ audience, but I just don't see people playing these cookie cutter rpgs with assets and an engine that is 20-30 years old.
>>3989767you guys need to stop doing jams back to back, most people would probably rather be working on their own projects than do jams every other week. Maybe cut it down to 1 or 2 a year or something?
>>3989766Why did you become such an asshole over the years?>7/10 mainstream Hollywood flick.Hollywood doesn't make anything above 0/10
>>3989766>Imagine if someone tried to convince you that a porn movie had better acting and writing than even a 7/10 mainstream Hollywood flick.Nah, I've never even heard of a porn movie with a plot that isn't superficial window dressing. A better comparison is some chick telling you 50 Shades of Grey is good writing. That movie was 100 minutes long, 20 minutes of which were sex scenes including BDSM etc. I haven't read the book but I bet it's a similar ratio. The coomer gamer has the same mindset. A porn game might be good, but it might not be. Maybe the story/gameplay is objectively bad but you can't tell because a quarter of the playtime is literal sex scenes distracting your emotions. If you know what you're getting into that's fine too.

>>3989853it's 3 frames per direction and they're all placed the exact same every time. why do you need it to animate like that?
>>3989845number wise, I don't think we count it. But it got a little screwy once before when we had 2 jams at once. I think we've had jams with no games before too. I just don't remember what they where. I want to say a cowboy theme failed once before. But I could be remembering the /vg/ era.
rpgm resurgence with u2u surely...
>>3989859lol, lmao even
I'm certain I only play RM jam games on itch anyways. I do not play horror games, and I've maybe downloaded 1 free tileset. So it's funny that the suggested thumbnails are all horror games and assets, but the tags are completely unrelated. "Gay, Furry, NSFW, Adult, Erotic. PORN. PLAY PORN!" I made a post about this last year. And play a bunch of casual shit just to prove it's not actually tracking my history at all.
I believe the tag list rotates, and there's not a lot of variety to rm games in the first place. So there's no specificity beyond "fantasy rpg". So there's more nsfw and lgbt tags out there, and nobody labels their game with "vanilla SFW straight cis protagonist"
>>3986299Okay well I was an idiot and didn't need to have it running in parallel. I'm far enough along now that I want to focus on the presentation, because I'm oddly embarrassed by all the placeholder graphics. That may take a while since I'm not a very good pixel artist.
