Featured game by thumbnail: Path of Achra

> Why aren't we on /vg/?
This general moves too slowly to keep up with endless gacha threads on /vg/
>Are mystery dungeon games allowed in this thread?
Generally yes, most mystery dungeon games(Shiren the Wanderer, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, etc.) can be considered roguelikes
>Is Elin/Elona allowed?
Yes, they are roguelikes. Please do not post your Little Sister farms
>Is Dwarf Fortress allowed?
If it's adventure mode, yes. But adventure mode is boring. /tg/ has a general for fortress mode playthroughs but you can share here too!

You know you can wear 2 of each type of clothing, so you can stack two thermal electric outfits (100% coverage) and then if it's really necessary 2 sets of thermal electric suit + balaclava + socks + gloves. Just bring like 10 full medium batteries if just two outfits is enough and you should have enough time to explore. Also I've found that those workstation computers tend to spawn in those computer-locked rooms like prisoner containment and barracks.

Just curious, do you ever ask for rewards for these quests? I always check if they can teach martial arts, but if not I ask for no reward as I figure it's the only real chance to boost your faction reputation. But I wonder if they can give anything special, or if they're just limited to their inventory.
Cause having finished these doctor quests, it was a bit anticlimactic that I just gave him the last usb with the data and it was just like "thanks" and then nothing really changed. At least like the tacoma quests eventually give you a surgeon that can install bionics, I think. I guess the real reward of the doctor quests is just getting a few lab locations.

Does Hub01 at least have a more interesting questline? Haven't found it this playthrough yet, apparently it's at 0,0?
>>
>>3966938
I wanna like adom but felt so easy and full of trash mobs compared to something like tome4 insane mode

Does it get better/harder?
>>
>>3968866
>Haven't found it this playthrough yet, apparently it's at 0,0?
Its spawns similar to the refugee center, its not a set location. Theres a quest in the refugee center than points you directly to it.
Hub01 does have more interesting questlines given they take you to unique locations, theres also some hidden questlines that show up a few months after the start.
>>
>>3968866
As the guy above said, I don't think that hub01 location is set to any coordinate, it's randomly placed just like all the other "unique" stuff. Actually their uniqueness also just applies to the overmap "chunk" depending on version. Not sure if this changed recently. But for example in DDA 0.H I have two sets of the blacksmith and bullet guys, they're just far away from each other as they belong to different overmap chunks.

If you're having trouble finding them, the "deliver FEMA data" quest you get from Smokes, gives you their location. At least in DDA.

I haven't ever finished all hub quests, only about 4 or 5? The quests themselves are cool, and they have really good rewards. For starters, you get some decent body armor after the first quest and the ability to trade, with a random chance to buy the helmet from their trading stock (with integrated IR and light amplification goggles) and better parts for said armor. Then you get an option to buy their version of the acid/radiation/electricity-proof suit after the third. Eventually you get to order their special rifle that can shoot different calibers. A free merchants trader also appears nearby after the first mission that can sell you pemmican (the "best" food). Not that food is a problem ever unless you're playing with weird mods or something. And there's apparently more after that.
>>
>>3968901
It's easy to abuse the system in ADOM but there's a handful of knowledge checks that you need to prepare for that are quite annoying (gearing up to protect against instant death spells, not killing felines etc.). I don't like it.

A game can have metaprogression and still be a roguelike, saying otherwise is retarded. Adding a saving and loading feature that you can use post-death in NetHack doesn't suddenly change the genre of the game, it's like saying being able to save whenever you want(or not being able to save whenever you want) somehow stops an FPS game from being an FPS game.
>>
>>3969997
I agree. If the game is something like Rogue, it's a Roguelike. If it's not like Rogue but has some elements that are inspired by Roguelikes, it's a Roguelite.

Unless I'm just extremely bad at the game, both
Securing a boat is a project that requires a lot of time and intimate knowledge of crafting and there are a couple of brutes you need to contend with at a point where you really can't deal with them effectively, it's like the ultimate test of skill for if you understand the systems of the game you can't just run away from

I'm also assuming a prisoner start
>>
>>3971529
shut the fuck up dysgenic freak
>>
>>3971545
I've yet to try the challenge myself, but is it really that tough? I mean prisons have bars and chain fences everywhere so all I'd expect you'd need is a reach weapon (like say you can smash a coat hanger or a small tree in the yard to get a long stick, or somehow get a piece of rebar, or maybe some pipe+pipe fitting recipes can give you reach, and you can get those from smashing racks and stuff) and then you can just kite them into the other side (chain fences will eventually break from too many zombies pushing them, but I've never seen common zeds break bars) and poke away through the obstruction.

As for the boat, I guess that would be difficult as I've done a few crashed heli starts on a small island early on, and the only times I escaped was when the island wasn't far from the edge of the river. But I didn't know about flotation vests at the time. Can't you make a flotation vest from like leather and thread? Cop zombies should have a lot of leather in their clothing. I'm not sure how they work, actually, as I'm generally too wary of zombie sharks to go swimming, but I assume one prevents you from eventually sinking from swimming for too long?
I guess it'll be fun to try it out sometime, thanks for the rec.

>>
>>3968901
ADoM has the overworld which gives you some control of the difficulty of the area you go to. It's what makes it the best roguelike. You can adjust how you play depending on how good the race/class you picked is. Trolls start ridiculously strong so you can go anywhere which is great for learning early on but then the increased food requirement becomes more handicap than it is worth and you try something else.
Drakeling are the best, don't let the tower of flame warnings fool you, they are even better there.
ADoM 2 is garbage and the graphical version slows things down too much for me to enjoy it.

Now I have to go look if there was ever a newer version of ADoM sage because the one I have is not working.
>>
>>3969997
Sorry but metaprogression is the hallmark of RogueliTes. The difference between the two is that roguelikes rely on player knowledge, roguelites rely on grinding. You can win a roguelike from the start, a roguelite is intentionally too hard to permit this. A roguelike needs a variety of tactical options for knowledge to even be a factor, a roguelite can be pure rng and not give the player any options.
Sure it seems a small difference but it causes a lot of other major design changes and goals.
This doesn't mean RogueliTes are all garbage or something. They get a lot of shovelware but that isn't intrinsic to them.
>>
>>3971710
No it fucking doesn't you stupid retarded nigger, if I take any roguelike and remove permadeath from it then it's still a roguelike, the gameply hasn't been changed to such a degree that it has become a new genre.

Everything has been sorta okay and then floor 13 happened

Also they were nice enough to tell me about behemoth monsters and how slow they are ... but forgot to mention that like half of the spawns are ranged enemies that can blast you to oblivion from a screen away

It's a mystery dungeon. If you hit a wall you bail out with your loot and come back with enhanced gear.

>>

There should be an item or feature that either warps you out of the dungeon or lets you warp individual items out so you can save your enhanced gear or enhancement items.
>>
>>3972506
I checked and it seems that the escape item isn't available until you clear that dungeon. You have to use warehouse pots to transfer individual items out or an NPC(Hikyaku).

While I am fairly certain that the /rlg/ thread on /vg/ here >>>/vg/564283272 is going to die again, I don't think there should be bad blood between the threads, I remember years ago we actually had an /rlg/ thread on /cgl/. I think it's fine to have both threads, /vrpg/ will make for an excellent backup in case, or, more correctly, when the /vg/ thread dies.

A good lesson in the futility of war.
Aerial combat gives you time to think about your death.
As did the campaign's civilian bombing feature.
Similar to a roguelike: You only go up so many times before you're toast.
Flying as an ace for a doomed reich is a hard lesson.
A long, slow, boring way to die.
Honorary.

I played a bit with it but I personally don't see the appeal, you probably need a lot of interest in a creature collector to like it.

There are some people talking about it on the vg /indie/ general.

>>
>>3969406
The game is pretty easy. I've exterminated both those demon factions from the game, but you don't really get any story hints, and when you get a quest there's nothing to remind you, in case you forget (which you will) and the community seems exceptionally gay in "muh no spoilers" shit, so you can't just look up "What the fuck was I supposed to do with that thing again?"
Other than that, it's pretty fun, it just lacks a real purpose once you've gotten all the clones, levelled all the classes and acquired the coolest blueprints.
>>
>>3978161
I see.

I love this so much I might just play those too. I love unconventional leveling systems like this where you build your character based on what types of foods are in your diet since you need to eat food to survive in the dungeon.

Are there any modern games like this? I feel like there's got to be an indie clone or two on Steam or something that plays like this.

Unreal World modding question: is it possible to make a recipe that accepts more than one specific types of generic items? That's not a very good question so here's my example.
I want to make a proper bread so I want to the player to only use proper bread flour (rye or barley) and not cattail root flour or whatever other trash he has on hand. Can I make a recipe that accepts only rye flour or barley flour, or do I have to make two recipes: one for Proper Bread (Rye) and Proper Bread (Barley)? There's no documentation about such a thing so I suspect I'm stuck with the two-recipe option.
>>
>>3982300
Idk if Im making shit up but doesn't urw have some kind of regex stuff for ingredients? Cause rye and barley have something in common that cattail root doesn't have
>>
>>3982407
The only documented one is * so I assume there aren't any others. But this actually is a good suggestion: I could try *y*-flour, I hadn't considered using * more than once because it never gets used more than once in the existing recipes so I assumed the system won't accept it. That would still allow clay weed and yarrow flour but maybe *r*y*-flour will work assuming the game doesn't treat * as a mandatory character rather than a potential null. That would make baRleY and RYe available while excluding everything else.
>>
>>3982555
Yeah wildcards that's what I meant, check the BAC mod or other mods if you haven't already, good chance someone already tried something similar
>>
File: sigmund.png (152 KB, 556x695)

>>
>>3982555
*r*y*-flour worked perfectly.
Another question, although it seems like I'm just talking to myself, is there any way to make a recipe that leaves the product in a container but doesn't use bake/boil? I want to make a containerized product (mashed turnip) from ember-roasted turnips but I don't want the mashing to require a fire or fireplace. I think I'll be stuck making mashed turnips from boiled turnips instead which is fine I guess.
>>
>>3983244
Looks like the only way to make food in a container that doesn't involve a fire is grinding flour or milking animals so I'm out of luck. It's a shame grinding isn't available as a moddable action as that would be the perfect way to "mash" turnips.
>>
Is there a tier list of armor in Caves of Qud?
I'm at cold place and I'm getting fucked
>>
>>3984061
Penetration is a terrible, poorly explained mechanic, coupled with Qud in general doing a bad job of making it clear to the player that they need to go out and grind levels/better gear before the next stage of the main quest.
That said, armour tiers mostly follow the tier system for weapons with a few exceptions mixed in. By the time you do Bethesda if I remember right you should have Crysteel or Flawless Crysteel if you're lucky, carbide as a minimum (you can get it from genociding tons of goats in the jungles). Though you may want some gear with cold resistance as well.
>>
>>3984085
Yeah I'm working through goatmen to feed me gear and water. Going to buy some crysteel maybe at the faggot plant in banana land if they have it. I used to think money was hard to come but but if I grind a bit on these fags I'll have more than enough.
